Chereads / The Great Mage Alexander / Chapter 15 - Salamanders blessing

Chapter 15 - Salamanders blessing

Alexander walked forward until he found a wall, and then he followed that wall. The wall eventually led to another path, the path led to another path, and so on. This elaborate cave system would be troublesome to navigate. Luckily, Alexander could still feel what way was up and what way was down.

As long as he travelled upwards he should reach the top, there was a problem though. If the path upwards starts with a way down, he wouldn't get out. Due to the number of turns and pathways, the cave system became really tough to navigate. Alexander would always have to ask himself, "have I already been here". A single mistake to that question could lead to a plethora of confusion.

Alexander made progress nonetheless, after all. if you throw a million arrows in the dark, you would hit the bullseye at least ones. Trial and error was the method the smartest relied on when nothing else seemed sufficient.

As he was travelling down a big tunnel he saw eyes. It was all really sudden, it was a pair of eyes, the colour of the eyes was poison green and they moved in a human fashion. Alexander stopped abruptly, his feet stood still. The face got closer and closer, the flame which came from Alexanders hand became stronger due to the adrenaline. It felt really creepy.

When the flames got stronger, so did the light they emitted. The entire body of the creature in front of him was shown, it was a human Alexander thought. The human's skin was practically white with no dye whatsoever. He was wearing a really tight red jacket without a t-shirt, and tight red pants. His hair was completely white and smooth. Little did Alexander know that he had crossed paths with a vampire.

He stopped after he had approached Alexander, it was standing two meters away. Just were the light and the darkness merged.

"What is a fire mage doing so far down?"

"What are you doing here?"

"I asked my question first, so go ahead and answer it", he said before letting out a laugh.

"A mistake"

"You don't want to say much, do you? oh well"

"My question"

"I was resting"

Alexander flinched when he heard his response. He opened his mouth to say something, before closing it, then he reopened it only to close it again. His eyes widened as he looked at the man in front of him sidelong.

"Why here?"

"It's quiet and usually it's undisturbed", he intoned with irony

"There are also monsters here which could eat you up"

The person in front of him started laughing as if Alexander had said a good joke.

"Listen kiddo, the only true monster down here is me"

He started walking forward towards Alexander. He let out a smile letting all his teeth show. Two of them were longer than the others.

Alexander flinched, "a vampire". The vampire started walking towards Alex.

"The worst part with resting here is that there are no refreshments walking around, so I am really eager for a drink." He smiled again, it felt like he was taunting Alexander.

Alexander got into battle position, he widened his legs and put his flaming hands in front of his heads. It felt natural, as all his focus was poured into sight and positioning. The vampire kept on walking in a relaxed manner, almost signalling that he didn't think there was a threat to be seen.

When the Vampire was within arms reach Alexander threw a punch. Alexander saw the punch fly towards the vampire, it connected. Then the image in front of him disappeared, it had been an afterimage.

The vampire was standing his right side, the vampire kicked him in the stomach. The force made Alexander fly towards the wall before he could do that though the vampire was once again in front of him. He placed one hand on Alexanders head and tilted it sideways, whilst he took the other hand to hold him in place. His hands felt like an iron grip.

Then he bit into his skin and sucked the blood.

Suddenly, the vampire let go. He let out a shout of agony, he got down on knees with his fingers scratching the cave leaving deep marks. The shout was the loudest thing Alexander had heard, it was enough to make him unbalanced and fall over.

The vampire didn't stop ripping into the cave below him, he could not lift his head because of the pain he was under. This was the first time in its lifetime something like this had happened.

What the vampire didn't know was that Alexanders blood or rather the salamander's blood which was now flowing through Alexanders veins was way too pure for him to digest. It would have a completely opposite effect, burning through his body.

However, it eventually ended. He had only drunk a small amount after all, and vampires of his calibre were durable. The vampire was filled with rage, who dared trick him like this.

He saw Alexander crouched over beside the wall, holding his bleeding ears. He walked over to him, grabbed him by the neck. He lifted him up to eyesight, before bashing his head until his head was a mix splattered skin, brain matter, blood and bone.

Alexander had tried to burn the vampire's hand in an effort to let him get away, but it had been futile, barely leaving a mark.

The vampire slightly regretted not torturing this boy before murdering him but he was fueled by rage. He dropped Alexanders lifeless body on the ground before making his way towards the top. He was still thirsty after all.

After the vampire had left, something very strange happened. The skull connected to the neck started regrowing, albeit extremely slowly. Then after a week had passed his skull was in perfect condition. Then the skin started regrowing, after another week it had finished. The week after that the organs started regrowing a week after that and they were finished. Then the veins connecting everything and the final touch started growing, a week after that it was finished.

In total it had taken Alexander a total month before he could open his eyes again.
