- The Gods: 1 Ysennia, The Goddess of Creation. She was the first chosen. She represents life and death. As a human, she had been a warrior who wanted nothing more than a family. She was barren of her own children because she was always fighting so she fought to preserve life by ending others.-
Ed was meditating in the capital garden. Loran was guarding him and doing her own form of exercise. Her body was lithe and trim and she kept it that way through a practice that was very similar to yoga. Ed sat cross-legged on the ground with both hands on the earth trying to feel the flow of energies through the ground and all living things. His powers were coming back slowly, he could transform objects again but not at the speeds he had previously had.
For'Ten walked into the clearing and looked around at the serene setting. The trees were in bloom, flowers were moving as the bees walked through them and pollinated everything. If an area could be a perfect form of nature this was very close to that ideal.
Across the clearing, watching from a safe distance, Ko'Loss was thinking to himself. His lack of a real face meant that he looked more like an abstract statue.
For'Ten walked to a small bench in the center of the clearing and cleared his throat, "Ko'Loss would you like to tell me a story?"
Ed looked up, "Are you going to take a nap out here?"
For'Ten laughed and shook his head, "No, I have been reading a very interesting report from the city guards." He held up a rolled parchment and waved it at Ko'Loss. "Someone has been a very busy boy."
Ko'Loss turned his body and his face moved across the surface towards For'Ten. "I have done nothing wrong."
For'Ten shook his head and waved the scroll back and forth. The motion in his arms made the shiny armor on his arms twinkle in the sunlight. "Not according to this. What the hell were you doing out there?"
Ed was suddenly very curious, he stopped touching the grass and turned his body to look at Ko'Loss. "What is he talking about?"
"Nothing of importance. I went home, that is all."
For"Ten laughed. "Yeah, you went home all right and sent at least a dozen men to the local clinics. The local guard thinks that a vigilante is cleaning up the streets."
Ed blinked in amazement. "You went on a rampage?"
"No, I merely went home and had to remove unwanted guests."
Loran changed her position and moved from a lotus position to being upside down on her hands and bending her legs back and forth. "Why don't you tell them what really happened Ko'Loss. I told you that you should have told For'Ten immediately what happened."
Ko'Loss made a sound that must have been his version of a sigh. "When did home defense become a punishable crime."
For'Ten looked back and forth between the two of them. "Who said you committed a crime? And why wasn't I informed? If you needed help the Knights would have come and helped you."
"No help was needed."
Ed stared in amazement at what was happening. He was noticing that the longer they were here the better his skills at communicating were becoming. "Why don't you just tell us what happened."
"Fine, if I must make this go away."
-----------
(This part of the story is being told from Ko'Loss memory and takes place several days before they are all gathered in the park)
Ko'Loss was standing in the boarding room that Ed shared with several members of the Knights. He was thinking of his home as a human. He had owned a manor worthy of his status when he was alive before he left the city in search of the means to become what he was now.
Where was the house? He racked his memories and he could remember the rooms and gardens. He remembered the lounge his wife used as her sitting room. He could barely remember her face. He had never loved one being more than her and had never found anyone he wanted to spend time with like that again. As time wore on he lost that part of his human emotion but her memory stayed with him. She would have laughed and told him to move on, but that was impossible for him now.
Where was the house? Ed was talking to several trainees about the work out they had done that morning. Ko'Loss walked over to a wall where a rough map of the city was plastered to the wall. He used magic to make the tip of his finger glow and used it to inspect the wall and the map. The layout of the city was different than he remembered it being. The walls and districts were the same but old landmarks had been removed and new ones put up. That kind of change happens to any city that lives for more than a few hundred years.
He looked at the map and remembered to himself that his house used to be south of the Crystamoriam. It sat on a small hill surrounded by gardens and a wall. Since his magic was important in the creation of certain parts of the city his house was given a place of prominence. Besides, it's defender would need to see out over the city right?
The southern part of the city housed the bay as well as the human district. The human district was a run-down state of affairs now. When the demi's had killed off and purged the humans during the war the residents had all been chased off or killed. No one lived there anymore on a permanent basis because of the stigma that the humans had left behind during the war.
A few families of humans who had survived the purge and racial genocide would occasionally take up residence there but few lasted for very long.
Ko'Loss finally found what he was looking for. The map had one house in the center of the bottom of the petal. It was the largest building and if there were any landmarks left over they would be in that area. The further south you went the less law and order was enforced. It made it perfect for those people in the city who needed to stay out of the limelight.
Ko'Loss turned and walked out of the room. Ed saw the guardian move out of the room and got up quickly. "Hey! Hey, wait!" he said trying to follow behind him. Ko'Loss himself had told him to always follow him. But before he could catch up he lost him.
Ed shrugged in resignation and went back to the dorm. "What was that about?" a trainee asked him.
"I have no idea. I've never seen him take off that fast." Ed replied, slightly amazed at the speed the giant golem could manage.
Ko'Loss was using magic to move faster than normal. The walk south would take a few hours at a normal walking pace or half an hour by carriage. He could move much faster than that when needed and he wanted to check for his old house. The dorm was becoming cramped for him and his charge. And Ko'Loss knew the security he had put in place when he was a man. If the magic for his Arcanum under the Crystamoriam was intact. So should be the magic on his house if he was right.
People on the streets watched as the giant golem moved faster than the horses through the streets. Seeing certain races of Demi zip along the roadway was not abnormal but seeing a giant clay man move that fast was something new to everyone.
Ko'Loss made it to the gate to the southern district and stopped at the gate. It was wide open. One scrawny city guard was posted outside and he looked to be nearly at death's door. Guarding this gate was a retirement duty because no one cared who came or left. There were no city guards inside the area and no one lived there at current.
The ancient city guard looked at the Golem with curiosity. "Finally someone smart enough to send a damned creation in there. It's not safe for the living."
Ko'Loss swiveled his face around and down his arm to look at the man. "Has anyone entered recently?"
"How would I know. They all use the damn sewers and I'm not going down there. I sit on my stool and nap all damn day. That's all I am expected of and that's all I'm doing."
Ko'Loss nodded his head, which was disturbing enough because his face wasn't there right now. "I apologize in advance for disturbing your nap then." And with that, he walked inside the gate.
