Chapter 3 - Mississippi Woman

Being a woman is Mississippi is harder than you think

Most girls have at least one child by the time they're 18

Other girls are definitely not virgins

There's not much to do here so I assume that's why there are so many teenage pregnancies

Nothing to do

So just hump on each other

That's fun right?

It's so normal now for a girl to not make it to college

To not finish high school

Just go to work and take care of that child

But where is the father you may ask?

I don't know somewhere humping on someone else's daughter

But I'll take him back though

That's the mentality so many women have

No real sense of self worth or love or anything

Their fathers weren't around and all mama does is hump and have kids and put them on government assistance

Why not do the same?

I'll be fine.

Maybe even put the child in a special needs class just to get that check every month

But get a job?

Hell no.

Not when I can get this government assistance and hump on Brad

Have some more babies and get more money

Food Stamps, WIC, Stimulus check

You name it cuz I qualify for it

Go party every night with people who I call my friends but they ain't gon be no better than me

We all gon be the same.

Post on Facebook like im the sexiest thing in the world

But I don't make my own money

That outfit comes from the government

What happened to my sense of pride?

Why am I like this?

Why do I keep sleeping with these men and not going back to school?

I love to do hair.

It doesn't take long to get that certificate

Why won't I just get up from under Jimmy, get a job, and stop trying to hang out with people that don't want better for themselves?

Why am I like this?

Is this all I will accomplish in my life?

Will my children end up like me?

I have the body and mind to be better

To do better

Yet I don't.

There are people in the world with no arms or legs that do more in their life than me

I should be ashamed

I SHOULD BE ashamed
