Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Birth Ceremony I

Quinn Ophyris

My brother and father went hunting today, although from my father's previous hunt there is enough food for the moment, my father has faith that my brother is the next leader of the tribe. So, when he has time, he teaches him how to hunt and how to lead a hunting party. In a year or two, my brother is likely to join the hunting party.

Some people think it should bother me that my brother is the one my father chooses next leader. But I don't really bother me at all. Spending days or months away from the tribe living in the forest with danger in every corner and without knowing the current state of the tribe until I return, is not my favorite plan. The truth is that like my brother I am good at hunting, but I prefer to spend my time conducting experiments to improve life in my tribe.

I really don't understand why my father brought a new baby to the house, although I know that many families criticize him for having no daughter. She is too small and must be protected all the time, my brother and I will have to stop going to study with the rest of the children and dedicate ourselves to taking care of her, which will delay my studies.

Could she be sick? She hasn't woken up and its already noon. Maybe I should try to wake her up, but I'm concerned about taking any reckless action and hurting her. She is as small as the size of my elbow to my palm, I could easily carry or hurt her. It is a mystery how she managed to survive in the forest alone. How long will she have lasted there? We must perform her birth ceremony quickly, the longer she lasts with that appearance the less time she will live. Unfortunately, the last full moon was a few days ago, so it should look like that for a few more days.

While I was lost in my thoughts, I realized that the little creature had just woken up and was making a strange expression on its face. A kind of smile, but due to his animal features he looked very strange and unnatural. Still, I'd rather she acts this way than lie on his back. It's definitely going to be difficult raising her, though I can't help but smile at her little actions.
