Chereads / Killing Lamia / Chapter 11 - Nobody Here

Chapter 11 - Nobody Here

I sat Edmund down in the car and balled him up into a secure trap by using Lamia's cloak. It would secure him in place and raise his neck high enough to keep him satisfied. I crawled into the driver's seat as my heart pounded in my chest. The growls picked up as I watched the brawl waiting to happen.

"GET BACK!" Meynard warned them as he flipped his arm at them. He stepped in front of Lamia to protect her. They growled as they seemed to recognize him in a way. I could see it in their eyes as they all decided to growl at him alone. There was a new anger forming in their anger. I rolled the window down slightly to listen in on what they were saying.

"It's them, the ones King Lennon warned us about".

"They're vampires!"

"We should kill them all."

"Who is he? He's not like the rest of them."

"He's her monster, her own creation no doubt."

"How do we kill him?"

"I suppose a bite will do!"

"Let's tear them apart!"

They lunged at Meynard altogether. They were vicious as they tore him apart, he barely had a fighting chance. He swung his arm and the blade cut into one, sacrificing her to die at his blade but the rest had managed to tackle and tear into his flesh and ripped him apart with their teeth. I raised my hand to my mouth and looked with horror but also… satisfaction.

I waited so long for this time to come.

I silently cheered them on.

The wolves looked at Lamia suddenly and she had already risen her blade. Before she could strike one down, her vampires jumped in to get between her and the wolves coming for her throat. The knights took on defending her. I knew as soon as they were striking blades with the werewolf teeth it would be over shortly. These wolves weren't kidding. They must had trained against vampires their whole life. They weren't taking any chance for error. They moved together with stealth against the vampires and fought together to annihilate Lamia's knights.

The glass shattered by my head and I jumped in alarm as an arm reached in and tore me from my seat. I was pulled out and thrown on the ground. My head throbbed in pain as I glanced up at a female, with scars running down the center of her chest that plumped out to sit on a swollen belly, she was with cubs. What was she doing out here in battle? Was she nuts? The woman was very different from the usual young warrior, she was probably in her mid-thirties. She had a battle scar running down her right cheek. Her eyes were a dark brown, almost black. Her skin was dark like an almond or bronze and her hair was long with beads braided into them. She growled with a thunderous roar in her chest as she waited as if testing to see what I would do next.

"Who are you wolf?" She asked me suddenly.

They don't know who I am? Surely… I figured they knew who I was from the way they were looking at me earlier. Was I just imagining things? This has gone too far.

"Are you hers?" A nearby wolf asked as I had a feeling they were pointed at Lamia. I widened my eyes but I couldn't answer her. I didn't know what she meant by it. What did I want to say, anyway?

"I'm Nolan, my father is Calix Fang. Maybe you know that name?" I asked with hope.

Lamia suddenly screamed and my attention went to her as I looked under the car and across to see she was pinned to the ground. I could smell her knights had died and she was bleeding out fast. A wolf had her pinned down as it was baring its teeth deep into her throat. I could see Lamia looking at me suddenly, her life meaningless in her eyes.

Did she give up?

No!

I don't want her to give up!

She doesn't get to die here.

Not like this!

"Just kill him, we don't even know who he's talking about," the wolf said that was standing nearby us.

"Does anyone know who Calix Fang is?" The wolf pinning me down asked as she cackled into a smile of delight. I heard the wolves around us laugh suddenly. She turned to look down at me. What's so funny? "Little wolf, we wouldn't know a Calix Fang. Any wolf that comes into this territory unannounced gets the death penalty. NAME not included."

"No, no, my whole pack came here," I explained to her. "My pack is called The Scarlet Nightwalkers. They came here to seek refuge from her." I pointed in Lamia's direction. "She's been keeping me hostage."

"You don't look like a hostage."

"We don't welcome packs as refugees."

"Liar, he's lying."

"I don't smell lies."

"I don't smell anything, he's a rogue. That's all I smell."

"He's a dirty rogue trying to protect its master."

"Kill him!"

"Fucking assholes," I heard Lamia spit out as she gurgled up blood. I glanced across the cars under length to find her staring me down. "He's not a liar."

I could see her misery in her eyes. She knew she was no match for this disaster unfolding in front of her. I could tell she was too tired to fight them, the color my blood provided her had faded from her cheeks and she was loosing it. None of this could have been predicted.

Lamia will die here.

The wolves turned to look at her suddenly as they growled with notice, she still had the menace to speak. I could see in her eyes she was one thing lacking, fear. I rolled my eyes at her. She should stay out of this and just die already!

"You're saying my pack didn't come here?" I asked them quickly. "Nobody has come here?"

"We didn't say that."

"We said we kill intruders."

"Besides, whose to say you're not working for her right now and trying to get us to admit whose come here this past year or so? Maybe a pack or so came here, who knows. They certainly didn't get to stay here alive."

The wolf standing above me motioned with one hand towards the wolves holding Lamia down.

"Kill that vampire, we'll finish this one off last."

I widened my eyes. What? They're going to kill me too. I'm one of them!

"W-Wait!" My voice froze everyone in place as I made it clear I wanted their attention. "What do you mean you're going to kill me?" I wondered as I stared each of them down even the ones holding Lamia and threatening to kill her with menacing eyes. "I must find my family, they're here somewhere. Stop pretending and protecting them. I know they're here! They were headed up here the night of the fires several months ago. Lamia," I pointed at her. "Ran them out of their territory and they came here seeking sanctuary. I must see them! Please believe me!"

"Look runt! Nobody here is from any pack outside of the pack borders," she chuckled out. "Nobody is allowed to just waltz in here and expect special treatment because they're dying from famine, disease, or some blood thirsty night monster."

She placed her hands over my throat then as she began choking me. I winced as I clutched her wrists and tried to pry them off.

I don't understand! What does she mean? Where would my pack have gone if they weren't allowed entrance here? Why are they hiding facts they came here? What is going on here? Do they not believe me or something? I can't believe this!

Where is my father, mother, sister? If they didn't come here then where would they have gone? It doesn't make any sense. They're lying to me to protect my innocent pack mates. This must be it. I can't die here! I must live to see them!

I struggled under the werewolf's clutches and looked past the vehicle to meet Lamia's eyes as I begged her to get up, get up and save me.
