"Lamia," I begged as I felt lightheaded. I was loosing my strength. It was becoming hard to breath. There was something seriously wrong with these wolves! I don't know why I expected Lamia to save me. She could barely save herself.
I saw her reach up and force a wolf to stare down into her eyes. A threatening and murderous look gleamed through both their eyes. The wolf moved away from Lamia and turned to face the rest that were watching the two.
"Kill her!"
The darkness closed in around me as I felt like I was inverting further into my mind. Leilani's grip tightened as she caught on to the fact that I was losing.
I heard a gurgling scream that made me sure of it, Lamia had died. No! I don't believe it. I was lost suddenly in panic. What was happening? I couldn't tell. I could hear growls rumble on the other side of the car. Suddenly gunfire broke their thunder. I could hear whines and smell blood from the injured. I figured they were celebrating their win, but this was different, this was a thrilling new surprise. The growls turned to whimpers from suffering. Leave, we must leave. I was lost, so lost in the sounds of silence following in mere seconds. They were going.
"RUN! RETREAT!"
It was gone, my senses of her touch around my neck. I could feel nothing but the cold air surrounding me. I thought for a moment… I was dead. No, I didn't feel dead. I heard warning growls light up beside me. Leilani was gone as I heard running as if a chase happened and I was left alone. I opened my eyes slowly as I found Lamia across the other side of the car in her misery as she watched me with dread on her face. I glanced around to see the wolves that had disappeared that were threatening us. What just happened? Someone came up to Lamia's side and knelt with a syringe hovering near her neck before sticking it straight into the wound. I smelled the air and knew instantly it was one of her disciples that had come to save us. Someone must've phoned in for back up. They were here to save her. She was helped up into a sitting position within seconds.
A cure? They have a cure?!
I swallowed hard as I realized werewolves were completely fucked if Lamia has cure from their only protection, the wolf venom that covered our k9s. I trembled as I fought to get up. I must get out of here. I rolled over onto my stomach and pushed up off the ground as I fought my way up against the car. I was lightheaded as I took this moment to my own advantage and reached through the window to unlock the car. A hand grasped mine suddenly and I flipped around and she moved to pin me up against the back door of the car. Lamia stood against me with a frail strength as she looked absolutely pissed at me. I gulped as she stared my neck down with a threatening gaze.
"We have to go," one of her vampires warned her. "They'll come back with a larger group next time."
"Shut up," Lamia warned as she didn't waver her eyes from me. "Are you ok?" She asked as she bit her bottom lip and her blood flooded out like a tiny stream as it dripped off her chin and onto the ground to be wasted. She leaned in towards me and I met her halfway. Our lips locked as I sucked on the part, she bit for me. Her blood tasted like a sweet candy of indescribable taste this time. The soreness in my neck eased up. I was taking advantage of her, I knew it.
"Lamia," one of them called uneasily. I wrapped my arms around hers as her fingers let me go. I picked her up instantly as I parted from her lips to see her eyes falling shut and her head dropping to the side as she passed out. Her lip swelled as it healed the small puncture wound. Her neck attracted me to it as I saw it struggling to fix the damage that wolf delivered with its teeth. I glanced up at her loyal guards that were staring down at me with a threating demeaner. I knew they were uncertain of what I wanted.
"They said they kill intruders," I spoke softly as I wanted to hear what they had to say. "Is it true? Where- What happened to my pack?"
They all seemed to look at each other in telling eyed stares before looking back at me and the one speaking with me walked up as he gestured towards the car with a slight wave of the hand but his eyes stayed glued to mine as if watching to see what I would do. He sighed when I didn't budge. I needed answers.
"You should see for yourself," one of them whispered to me quietly.
"See what?" I asked in a begging tone. What are they talking about?
"You'll see. Get in," the vampire said as they gestured toward the car. I suppose they want to leave as soon as possible and without any restraint on my part. I gripped Lamia in my arms as I stepped aside and opened the back door to put her down in the back where I trusted she would be safest at. I could tell that whatever cure they gave her was working. She would be back to normal eventually. I got into the car in the front seat and was forced into the passenger's side as the vampire followed me into the car. He nodded toward the rest of the vampires as a gesture he'd leave first with us.
"What happened?" I asked softly as we drove off in the direction we were originally headed to. He wasn't taking me to see anything. He was taking us out of the territory to get Lamia back safely, I knew it. I could feel it. That talk was to get me in the car. I growled under my breath as I thought back on what Leilani said. Did she really mean every word? What if my pack didn't come here? What if they did and were attacked or separated after being brutally rejected from this territory? This doesn't make any sense to me. "You know something more about what happened with my pack that night, don't you?" I asked angrily. "They were coming here but those wolves just told me they didn't even recognize their- "
"It's a big pack," he said quickly as he interrupted me. "The werewolf king's territory is twice as big as your four small packs combined. They also don't like any newcomers especially from your territories because of what happened between your father and…" He stopped talking as he paused like he wasn't sure he should be telling me anything.
"My father?" I asked softly.
"You should have never came here," he muttered under his breath. "Lamia is always blind when it comes to her rage." He looked guilty for talking about her suddenly.
"What's your name?"
"I'm Daniel. You're Cole, right?"
"Yeah," I muttered as I looked out the window.
"You should ask her more later when she's feeling better. I don't think it's my place to continue telling you these things. She might now be telling you for her own reasons."
Loyal to her till the end?
"I need to know," I whispered.
"It's not happy," he told me. "I think I know why she didn't tell you."
No, no, no. What if Leilani is right? What if my pack got separated due to some bloody battle? I can't think of those things right now. I can't believe those things.
