Eivor already saw the Crissaegrim and was no longer as surprised as the men who gazed upon it. He already tried and failed to lift Delphine's mighty sword and could not believe his eyes as he watched her wield it like leather. The men who stood before her were shivering to the bitter core and remained speechless for a long while. Simon could see why she pulled out her sword and made them all feel afraid; he was getting used to her blade being pulled out. He could go on all day as to why her strength cannot be matched by those who seek a challenge.
Then, Delphine said to them, "This sword has slain hundreds of thousands of night creatures. It has never left my side and never shattered. This blade has been infused by hellfire, and when it lights up, all of the low-class demons will tremble and fear it. I can show you what needs to be shown, and I can give you a better way to kill demons. Of course, one way is to be fast and durable with your sword. A demon's weakness is always either it's heart or head."
The warriors standing before the Ebony Knight were still pretty doubtful about her and what her intentions are during the onslaught. Eivor has his suspicions and reasons for being outside, but seeing Delphine made him more relieved than ever. Then, Delphine put her sword back into her scabbard and looked at the mountains, which were miles away from where she stood.
"You know, I don't need to be here. I can just leave you all alone and let you fight the demons yourselves. You'll all likely die, and your earl might die in this battle," Delphine said.
"Impossible. Earl Eivor is stronger than any one of us here. Seeing him die will be the death of us all. Watching him fall without his sword by his sword will make him condemned," Osbert said.
"That's what you might believe. But, even a leader of so many people can find themselves being succumbed to their power," she said.
"You have no proof for that charge. You have nothing to help yourself out other than your blade. We will all die for our leader if we must."
"I've seen many earls be tempted by evil. I've witnessed them turn, and I had no choice but to kill them. Death is the only way out for most of them."
"You will know once you've seen the raw power we have created against the demons. The creatures will tremble when they notice our earl fighting against them. They will know and fear the power of the gods and will run back to their masters when we give them the message."
Delphine looks down at herself and begins to wonder what will happen if they are all dead without being warned. Some of them already knew how powerful the demons were and had many reasons for hating them. But, it seems to her that they could handle almost anything because of the pride they carry in themselves. They did not need her opinion on fighting the demons and did not care what kind of enormous power she wields against her foes.
"I've wasted my time with you. I now understand why you shunned other Saxons and me out. Even a Dane can learn anything about demon-slaying from a Saxon," Delphine said.
"You can't just leave on your obligations. There's a whole army of demons out waiting to take all of us on," Eivor said.
"I'm not wanted here. They think they can handle everything they got against those creatures who have gotten much stronger now. I hope you're all ready to fight them all by yourselves instead of having my assistance," she said.
"Delphine. This is a fight for everyone, and anyone with a sword in their hand must lay a scratch on those beasts. If they're as strong as you claim them to be, then I don't know if three-quarters of the city will live any longer."
"Farewell, Eivor! Simon, let's go."
Eivor looks at all of his warriors and Osbert as Delphine walks away from him to exit out of the city. The city was already prepared to fight the demons, but they were worried about what will happen to them and their earl.
"Wait. Delphine! Please, come back," Eivor shouted.
"And do what? Listen to more of their disputes? Listen to your men grovel and speak ill of my companion and me? I shall have none of it!" Delphine said.
"Osbert. You will keep the two demon hunters with you. When the sun goes down, allow them to instruct your men," he said. The leader of the warriors has been acting very differently towards Delphine and Simon and moved as if he never spoke with them before.
Then, Delphine walked back to the Vikings and waited with them for the sun to go down and the sound of demons to be heard. When the time comes, they will all raise their swords against any demonic creature who tries to take down the walls. Then, Eivor walks a few feet away from Osbert and looks at the other side of the lands in front of the city. He was too hesitant to make Delphine leave him and his army to die in the hands of the night creatures.
Then Osbert looked at his men and spoke with them, saying, "Men. We're all going to cast our differences aside and fight a threat that's bigger than us. The Ebony Knight and her comrade are not our enemies. The ones who serve the darkness are our enemies. They will all taste the silver of our blades and likely sound the retreat if we manage to kill hundreds of them. We must put our trust in those two and make many people hear their names. Delphine, do you have anything to say?"
Delphine looked down at herself and started to wonder what kind of encouragement she can give to the warriors next to her. Simon already has plenty of courage and strength to stand against a thousand demons and not be afraid to take them on.
Then, Delphine looked up to Osbert and his men and replied, "Don't be afraid of death. Your gods above the clouds are watching and depending on you to succeed. I may be no Dane, but I'm sure your gods will carry you to the afterlife and welcome you as a noble warrior. This will be one of many more battles against the demons you'll be forced to endure. So many men, women, and children have been torn apart by the night creatures. That's why I'm fearless against all who wish to take me down with them."
Simon may not be that much of the nordic kind, but he was of the northern lands and lifted his sword against the night. He realized that Delphine pitied humans if they were not willing to listen to her words before an onslaught begins. Then, he saw most of the men getting ready to pull out their nordic weapons and get ready to fight the demons to the death. The creatures were still taking their sweet time to meet up with the nordic warriors and invade their city. The city walls were made entirely of metal and iron, which made it almost difficult for the demons to push forward wholly.
Simon walks to Delphine and stands beside her like he has been doing for the past couple of days he has been with her. He wondered if he could have one last talk with her before they fight against the night creatures.
"Now what?" Simon asked.
"We just sit back and wait for them to come. I'm sure they got their motivations from Osbert himself," Delphine answered.
"Is something wrong, Delphine?" He asked.
"You were right, Simon. I guess he no longer needs me after this battle. After this, I guess we'll just be on our way."
"Indeed. I was never a big fan of this place, anyway. Even the tavern itself smells like it has seen better days."
"Don't worry too much about it. So long as we got everything we need out of that room, I'll return the key, and we're gone. We'll be forgotten in a week."
"Are you sure about that? Do you think they will forget us and lock us out as they do to all the strangers? I'm pretty sure they will talk about us for a good while and move onto other things. Or they could say we may have done some good behind their backs."
Even though Delphine understood what Simon was talking about, she still believed that none of them would remember her and Simon. The nordic people have a long history of discussing news with one another and talking of people they have met on their travels. There was a high chance that they would be talking about the two demon hunters for a whole month or two.
