Delphine has gotten used to the point that the demons will always be showing up when the moon is full. She walks ahead of Simon as they both walk on for another ten minutes under the full moon. The only way out of such a situation is to fight back and kill whatever is not human as the night goes on. Both of them continued walking on the trail and not stopping for a break, and they never sheathed their swords. Putting the sword back to the scabbard proves that the person has either finished the onslaught or he surrenders to the enemy.
The time of the sword and ax is still at hand because the presence of the demons seemed to be increasing every minute. Delphine always had a habit of never letting her guard down while fighting her enemies with her large weapon. Such a massive weapon was necessary for fighting creatures of terror and living to tell the tale. Simon proceeded to follow Delphine, and he started to get a little exhausted and let out a small yawn. Since Delphine had excellent hearing, she turns around and looks at Simon and stopped walking for a while.
"You tired, Simon?" She asked.
"I mean... no. It just let out by itself," he answered.
"I mean... here's a spot right here. Are you seriously going to stop here and rest your weary legs?" Delphine asked.
"No. It was just a yawn, nothing too serious. Alright?"
"I could just leave you on this very spot. But, I can't because this mountain will soon be filled with demons all over the place."
"I said it's nothing too serious, okay? I already told you I'm not tired!"
"And I already told you I don't have time for this!"
Then, Delphine wraps her left arm around Simon's neck, and they both continued to walk on the long road, which led to the mountain's entrance. The Ebony Knight showed a little bit of mercy to the young hunter's exhaustion because she needed him to be awake.
"Simon, what did I tell you about staying awake at night? Especially during a time like this, I expect you to be ready and alive for such an event," Delphine asked.
"Listen, I wish I knew, and I wish I could tell you. You sure don't seem to have a problem with getting tired," Simon said.
"Simon, when people think of me, they also think of you. And because of that, I need you to be awake and ready to fight whatever is waiting for us," she said.
"Once again, you sure seem to know a lot about people around you. I think I would love a little bit of that wisdom."
"Simon, do you want me to kick you? Or maybe slap you to make sure you're not asleep?"
"No. Not at all. Let's keep walking."
Someday, I probably will just have to beat him to wake him up. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what will. Delphine thought. She continued to have her arm around his neck, and they were all focused on the task ahead for them.
Then, she felt her head and began to feel the composure of the demons catching up to her. She then proceeded to have one hand on her greatsword and the other on Simon's shoulder. It was the absolute worst time for Simon to be getting tired, and an even worse place to rest himself. Delphine knew that such a heavy burden was placed on her shoulders, but she realized that it was a burden worth sharing as Simon walked with her. Suddenly, another group of night creatures began to be upon them, and there was a much wider area to have an onslaught.
"Simon, be ready! Now is not the time to close your eyes!" Delphine said.
"Don't worry. I'm not sitting still for this," Simon said.
"Good," she said. Then, they all had their swords pointing at the beasts coming at them with everything they got.
All of them had swords and spears to fight with; Simon knew that they were very fast with their spears, so he remained behind Delphine's back. There were about forty demons who were ready to tear apart the one who killed so many of them since the beginning. Then, one of them starts to come towards Delphine with a spear and runs with it to pierce her flesh. She easily blocks the strong attack with her greatsword, and she slices off the demon's arms and head. Then, another creature runs to her with a sword to see if he can cut her open.
Little did he know, she was much faster than he thought she would be as she slices him open without getting a chance to take a stab at her. Her time was wasted here, and she decides to charge towards them and spin her sword around to cut all of them in many pieces. Simon saw a few demons coming towards him, and he held onto his sword and became ready to cut them down. His will to hunt the demons was always healthy; he was still prepared to fight them back and stay alive. Then, Simon charges towards them and begins to parry and block every attack coming towards him.
His sword was always ready to kill any monster that served the darkness, and he stood prepared to slay more who are coming his way. Then, Simon proceeded to run towards them and take on the ones who have spears; none of them threw the spear at his chest because they were not archers. Like Delphine, Simon always found a weak spot for the demons, and he never received a scar from any of them. Then, he starts to catch up with Delphine and cut down even more creatures while running at the same time. He had never fought with such brutal strength before and never struggled with such high dignity in his life.
It must have been through Delphine's healing magic that made Simon able to kill any demonic creature in his path ruthlessly. He knew he had many more questions to ask her, yet she could not answer all of them one by one. The burden still fell upon her to defend Simon from creatures that would be nearly impossible for him to kill. Then, Simon got caught up with Delphine, and he saw her grab many demons and throw them at their comrades' bodies. He watched as they were slammed into the bodies of their other allies, but some of them were stabbed to death by accident.
Simon teamed up with Delphine to kill the remaining demons that stood behind the entrance of the mountain. He fought against them and witnessed their blood run out from their bodies and end up on the snowy floor. Then, he saw Delphine slice off the heads of many who were trying to not only getting to her but also getting to Simon. She swings her sword at the last remaining opponents who were sent to devour her and end her journey. Lots of blood splatters all over the place, and so much gore stained the floor as the midnight continued.
And so, the onslaught between Delphine and Simon against the night creatures has ended, and they both continued walking. They both needed to get to the inside of the giant mountain; none of them looked back at the massive pile of corpses they left behind. Then, Delphine notices that they were only a few miles away from reaching their destination, and she proceeded to hold nothing back. Simon saw that she did not need small talk because of how eager she wanted to get this over with. Simon stood with Delphine and saw the ginormous peak and became surprised at how more significant it was coming just by walking towards it.
"Simon, I believe we only have one mile ahead of us. This trail leads between the other two mountains before us," Delphine said.
"Do you think so? We both have gotten this far and already fought about a hundred creatures the moment they laid eyes on us," Simon said.
"We'll find a way inside, I'm sure of it. I'm sure that some other group of beasts will be falling from those cliffs," she said.
"Hold on, wouldn't that instantly kill those creatures? Since you know... they're falling. Why would they fall down and still be able to fight if they cannot regenerate their arms and legs?"
"The demons prove to be powerful fighters. And because of their ability to fight, they can do almost anything that a human cannot do. Supposedly, falling only to run around to find their enemies."
"That truly must be some paradox mostly because they have adapted in many ways after we have killed a lot of them. It also must mean how tougher all of the creatures will get once we get out of this place."
