Chapter 63 - The Enochian Inscription

Delphine and Simon walked the last mile of the long trail as the midnight moon is above them. The steps were getting much smaller, and the ground was turning into a floor of hardened stones. The level also started to have ancient inscriptions of the guardian who is the master of the ancient elder dragon. The way to the entrance was already indicating that there was no turning back; nothing could keep them away from what they are about to witness. Then, they began to notice that the place was more than just a mountain; it was a cave with a dragon sleeping inside of it.

Delphine and Simon arrived at their destination, and it was already an hour past midnight as they stood before the doors. The doors themselves were made of metal, and they also had an inscription just like the floor they stood on. The language of the legend is complicated to understand for someone like Simon, but Delphine could comprehend what the description is saying. Delphine understood many words and went out of her way to study other languages as she trained to be a demon hunter. Simon tried to think about what the details on the doors mean and why they say it before they walk inside.

"These words... what do they mean? This language is unknown to me," Simon said.

"This language is ancient Enochian. The language of Satan," Delphine said. Simon became shocked by the fact that such an offensive language exists, and he became disturbed just by thinking about it.

"Well, we're here. And since we've gotten this far, what does it say?" He asked. Delphine walks closer to the door and begins to analyze what the meaning of the inscription is saying.

The text on the door is read in Enochian, but in English, it means:

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens. In a time of woe and a time of darkness, the only one who can open this door is he who is cursed with the blood of Mephiles, the demon king. To open this door, you must place your blood on the handle, for blood is the key to enter. Only the one who is destined to rid the world of all the demons shall come. There cannot be two people of different blood to enter this mountain.

Then, Delphine answered and said to him, "I know what this means. This text is saying only the one who is cursed with demon-blood shall enter. It will only let in the one whose purpose is to slay every last demon and creature that roams the earth. And it's by the hand of that one mortal that all that the demons and their kings have wrought will be undone."

"Only let one person in? What does that mean?" Simon asked.

"I hate to break it to you, but they're not going to let you in. I think it has to be because whatever or whoever is inside only wants me to receive something," she said.

"So, I came all this way up to this mountain. Thousands of steps just to get here... and for what? NOTHING!!"

"Simon, calm down."

"Calm down? We spent hours just to get here!"

Simon started to walk back and forth very angrily and confused at everything that this door is spouting out. He believed everything about this door is complete nonsense, and he started to curse the day he agreed to come here.

"Simon, you may not be allowed inside, but while you're out here, I'll need you to guard this place with your very life. Since these are much tougher demons, your sword and bow will not be enough," Delphine said. Then, she removes her ebony dagger from her inventory, and she walks over to Simon to give it to him.

She needed to make sure how well he can fight them off with one of her weapons; of course, he will need to give it back to her once he is done using it.

"What's going on? You're giving me your dagger?" Simon asked.

"It's not a gift. I'm letting you hold my dagger," Delphine said. She trusted him enough to allow him to use her dagger into the next onslaught that will likely happen.

Delphine only needed her greatsword to talk with the guardian and wait for that person to tell her the reason why she is in there.

"How long will you be gone?" Simon asked.

"I don't know. Perhaps the rest of the night or until daylight comes. Just promise me you won't die once I'm done," Delphine answered. Then, Simon takes the dagger from her after she gives it to her, and he looks upon it and realizes how mighty it looks.

It was unlike anything he has ever seen as he touched the handle; he imagined himself being more powerful than any human while holding Delphine's dagger. Then, Delphine walks towards the door and pulls out her greatsword as she was about to offer her blood to the seal. Her sword was all she could take, and she could not let herself die in a place like this. Without hesitation, Delphine uses her greatsword and slowly slices herself in the palm of her hand. She then places her bloodied hand between the two doors and watches as the door starts to make a lot of dark noises.

The voices were saying all kinds of things to Delphine after they accepted her blood as the key to the entrance. Then, the doors begin to open themselves a few seconds later, and they opened very slowly because of how big the exits are. Delphine and Simon saw the entrance of the mountain and were amazed at how big it seemed to get by just looking at it. Delphine takes one final look at Simon before she walks inside and shows signs of love and trust towards the young hunter.

"I'm counting on you," Delphine said.

"I may not know what's in store for you, but come back in one piece. Be careful in there," Simon said.

"Same to you," she said. Then, Delphine walked inside the entrance and did not look back at Simon because of how detailed the inside of the mountain looked like.

Simon became very worried about Delphine and very concerned that she might never come back. But, he swore to her that he would not let her down and stand in her way as the night goes on. He did not see any sign of a band of creatures showing their presence before him. For some reason, he was kind of glad that he has Delphine's dagger; he might never survive the night without a more potent weapon. Meanwhile, Delphine was following the long road that led to the center of the mountain.

This time, it was a straightforward way from the entrance to the center, and she had everything under control. As she walked, she began to see the room lighten up with many candles on the floor, the walls, and even the ceiling. There were so many paintings coming from all kinds of directions about events that happened a hundred years ago. One of them was a very familiar painting that resembled what happened during the earlier days of the Demon Wolf.

One painting was of the man named Julius of Romania who kills his brother and takes his place as king of Midland. Delphine watched at how detailed the art was in terms of how intense it was and how important it was to the history of the earth. She then turns to her right and saw a different painting of an event that happened a few years after the events of the first painting. This painting seemed way too familiar for Delphine because she knew this person to be none other than the Wolf Queen.

"Lagertha? What magic is this?" Delphine asked. She looks at the painting, and it depicts Lagertha pushing her sword into the heart of her father; it seemed as if she killed him and took his mantle.

Lagertha never told her of these events and kept everything she has ever done a secret. It seemed as if she and Delphine were bound to each other because they had secrets they refused to share with their friends. Delphine continued to walk forward and cover her face and not take a look at what else happened with Lagertha. She looks down at herself and felt very ashamed at not being able to know everything about the one who trained her to become a knight who walks in the night.

"Lagertha, you bastard. You never told me anything about this. If I ever get out of here, you owe me all kinds of questions," Delphine said. She was now too angry to care about what she will expect inside the mountain; she could feel her blood pressure rising just by the thought of Lagertha who presumably started this madness.
