Chapter 1 - The Loyal Knight

My name's Kiel and I am so in love with dogs when I was a kid, that is---when I was a kid.

Since the day I've seen such wonderful dog, there was never a day that I keep on insisting my parents to buy me one.

So I decided to step it up and had a deal with my parents. I told them that if ai become a top-notcher in our school they will buy me a dog. My determination was overwhelming back then until I become the top 1 in our level. It was the day that I gained Kobe, my dog. It was the greatest day of my life, it was the day I bear the fruit of my perseverance and hardwork to just to get the dog that I want.

We hurriedly went back home and I was so excited like I'll be the happiest kid of the world. There I was, waiting for my parents to open the dog cage, like I'm the predator and Kobe's the prey. The moment my parents opened it I quickly tried to reach my arms into Kobe and the dog's scared because of my actions. I was curious at first because I just wanted to pet him and hug him and love him but I saw in Kobe's eyes that he was scared.

My parents told me not to jump like that in front of a few months old dog especially when they are still adjusting. Sadness filled my face and then Kobe suddenly went outside and licked my arms. That was the moment I felt like he knows my emotions.

I slowly grabbed him and hugged him really tight.

As the days goes by, Kobe and I became really good bestfriends. Wherever I go, he goes.

We usually go to park and meet with other people and dogs. He's kinda friendly and always try to mate with others. That was the day I figured out maybe he needed a companion. So I tried to please my parents on buying a new one but they won't agreee to it.

Days after days I tried to prove them that I'm worthy but they wouldn't let me have another. I was sad that time because I couldn't give what Kobe want.

Things slightly changed as I grew older. My attention was taken away from Kobe and I started to keep him locked up in his cage and just feed him.

Slowly, I became old and Kobe as well. I knew at one point of life, one must go. I was scared of Kobe, not because he's going to say his farewell soon. I was scared because I have forgotten him and locked him up all day, not playing with him anymore. He was there, watching me grow old---watching me fade away from his arms. I'm scared he's angry about what I did, that he might bite me for what I've done.

Yet, this isn't the time to let my negative emotions get the best of me because every second is important. I slowly went into his rusted cage and took out its lock. The moment I opened it, he jumped into me and I was scared as hell. But, when jumped at me he just licked my face over and over again. He licked me like it's his last farewell, and he slowly lie down next to me like he was saying "I've been waiting my best friend. I can see you're old too now but I still love you "

I cried alot after few seconds as he stopped ...he stopped breathing...

This was the last story that I told to my grandson, as he is about to get his pet. A new bond will form, and I will soon join Kobe for my time in this world is about meet its end.
