I woke up in a different bed but the smell was familiar. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I was achey and weak. Then I noticed the bandages. The bandages on my skin stung and I felt like I could barely move. Then Nolan came in with a tray of tea, fruit and toast. He put the tray on the bedside table. I was never been so happy to see someone in my life.
'Hey, you've-' He started to say. I gripped his neck with my arms and kissed him hard. He was surprised at first but he got into it. He sat on my hips and kissed me more before cuddling me and resting his head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around him and just enjoyed the moment.
'How long was I out?' I said after a while.
'Uhh...about 17 hours.' He chuckled.
'You let me stay here for 17 hours?' I lifted my head up a bit and looked at him. His eyes were closed and he was smiling.
'Of course I did.' He said, cooly.
'Uhh so what are these for?' I pointed to the bandages, 'they sting like hell.' Nolan sat up and gently placed his hands on the bandages.
'You suffered from 3rd degree burns, I guess they could use a redressing.' He said as he got up, 'come I'll show you.' He held his hand out and I took it. It was difficult getting out of bed but I managed. He stood me in front of a mirror and prepared the bandages.
'So a nurse, huh?' I chuckled.
'Just like I didn't know you were a model.' He said while cutting the fabric.
'Eh on the side.' I rolled back my shoulder blades because they were the stiffist muscles.
'So what do you do mostly.' He asked while fishing for something in his first aid kit.
'I'm an engineer.' I said. He paused and looked at me.
'Really?' He raised his eyebrows.
'Yeah. Why you surprised?' I looked at him with narrow eyes. He just chuckled and came up behind me.
'This may sting a bit.' He said as he started undoing the bandages. I stared in the mirror. There was a burn reaching from my right side of my neck, pretty much on my jawline, all the way down to the left side of my stomach, one on my right hip, down to my right knee and one on my left hand from my knuckles all the way to my elbow. I felt tears in my eyes. I traced my right hand on the burn on my chest then looked at my hand.
'Oh, babe.' Nolan said. He wrapped around my neck and kissed my cheek.
'Who started the fire?' I said through gritted teeth.
'A couple of kids. They were 17 I think. Arabelle is going to see them today I think.' He explained.
'Oh my- Arabelle. How is she?' I held him by the waist.
'A little shaken up but she's fine.' He said as he rested his hands on my arms.
'Thank you Nolan.' I gave him a peck on the lips. He smiled.
'The burns will fade but they will still scar. They are healing up quicker then I expected and I don't think they need more dressing, just a little antibacterial to avoid infection.' He said while inspecting the burns.
'I can't tell if you're taking care of me or checking me out.' I giggled.
'Both.' He winked. He grabbed a bottle and some cotton wool.
'This is gonna sting a littl-...no I'm sorry babe, this is gonna hurt like a bitch, ready?' He said. I took a deep breath and nodded. He bearly even touched the burn and I knew what he meant. I yelped in pain. He held my back and quickly kissed my neck and hugged me tight. As he gently rubbed the cotton on my chest, neck, hand and hip I kept wincing and squealing. He finished and hugged me.
'I'm sorry.' He said.
'Can we go see these boys too?' I asked.
'The guys who started the fire? Are you sure?' His hand rested on my cheek. I nodded, staring at my burns in the mirror.
'Okay...borrow some of my clothes, I'll drive you.'
