I was driving with Dieter to the police station. It was a quiet journey. Diego was still with Cane and Freya was still with Harper. We were going to see if we recognised any of the boys to determine whether it really was an accident.
'You alright?' He asked as we parked up.
'I'll be fine.' I smiled. We walked into the station and we were shown into a room by a officer. The three boys were there in cuffs. Two looked very uncomfortable and truly scared. The other was sitting back in his chair, hands behind his head and smiling.
'What are you smiling at kid.' The officer asked coldly.
'She's pretty, you single sugar?' He chuckled. Dieter snarled and was trying so hard to hold his tongue.
'Ay! Watch it! You almost killed her in that fire. You know your place!' The officer barked. The other two flinched a little but he just laughed and shook his head I thought it was best to just get this over and done with.
'I don't know these guys.' I said bluntly.
'Are you sure. No argument, no confrontation, no nothing.' He scribbled on his clipboard.
'Nope.' I repeated. Then we heard steps in the hall.
'Mr Davids, sir. We have a Callum Grayson and Nolan Francis. Both were in the fire sir.' A woman in a suit said.
'Bring em' in.' He flicked his fingers. Me and Dieter looked at each other. When Callum came in he was struggling to walk, I guess his legs were still too weak. He was clutching onto Nolan's arm and using him for support.
'Hello, Mr Grayson. How are you doing?' The officer asked.
'Fine, fine.' He answered breathlessly. I went to hug him. He toppled around a bit.
'Woah, easy!' He chuckled, 'do you have an extra chair?'
'Sure man, take mine.' Dieter got up and Nolan helped him sit. He sighed. He was wearing a big hoodie, the sleeves covered his hand and the hood covered his neck. He also had baggy joggers on. He eyed the boys before speaking again.
'You guys are lucky no one died in that fir-' Callum started to say.
'Yes, and what if someone did, what would it have changed?' The middle boy asked. Callum clenched his jaw. I could tell he was livid but definitely trying to hide it.
'Then it would mean, someone lost their life to you morons and it would be classed as man slaughter. Which would have made you three murderers.' He said through clenched teeth. Nolan put his hand on Callum's shoulder.
'Woah, ouch.' The boy started to say. The other two looked at him, almost telling him to shut up through their gaze. 'Those are pretty strong words, but weren't you hobbling in here being held up by ya little boyfriend. That's a little contradictory.' He scoffed. Callum lost it. It's not often he gets mad but when he does he gets absolutely livid. He stood up and grabbed the boy by the collar, he stumbled a bit and had to slam his other hand on the table to steady himself. The sleeve pulled up on his arm, revealing his burn on his hand. I just stared at it, the other two boys did as well.
'And who's fault is that?' Callum shouted.
'Temper, temper.' The boy giggled. Callum pushed the boy back into his chair with force.
'Callum...what's that?' I pointed at his hand. I knew he had burns I just didn't know how bad they were because of how dark it was the night of the fire. He looked at his hand. I cautiously walked up to him and pulled up his hoodie. My eyes went wide I glanced at his face. He was looking at the floor full of sadness, then he gulped. I continued to remove his hoodie until it was in my hands. I gently ran my fingers over the burn on his neck and chest. He winced. Then I boiled with rage and glared at the boy in the middle. I raised my hand to slap him but Dieter grabbed my wrist and squeezed me into a tight hug.
'Uhh...sir, was that from the fire?' One of the other boys was talking now. His voice was wobbly and cracking.
'Well it wasn't from a spilt coffee.' Callum sarcastically smiled at the boy.
'I am so sorry. I know that doesn't cut it but if I could take it back, of course I would.' He said.
'We will pay for any hospital bills.' The other boy said.
'It's fine, I wasn't treated at the hospital.' Callum glanced at Nolan and then stared right at the boy in the middle. The boy stared back before saying,
'Karma is a bitch I guess, I wonder what you did that was so bad.' He sniggered. Callum took a deep breath and walked up to him.
'Then I guess you better start running kid, because I bet you have a lot of karma piled up and it's gonna catch up to you one day.' He huffed before snatching the hoodie and walking out.
