After finishing up all the meat, the night grew darker. Zhang Qianbai had already entered his tent for the night, and Xiao Niao was staying up outside.
"I've never had time to admire the stars... they're so pretty.."
Xiao Niao and Wind had never admired stars before and in that darks sky were hundreds and thousands of bright shiny stars. It was a magnificent sight for the both of them.
"There you are! Sorry, I think you guys are going to stay in a cage for tonight, follow me."
Zimo had ran up to them in an apologetic voice. Although Wind could only comprehend the main idea of what he wanted, she couldn't completely understand. Normally, an eagle like Wind wouldn't know anything of what Zimo said, but being raised in captivity probably helped her understand it. Xiao Niao had to climb up onto Zimo and explain what he said.
Zimo walked to the cages with Xiao Niao and Wind hanging onto him. After the cages had been too big for her in the past, Zhang Qianbai ordered a cage to be altered.
"Stay in the cages, alright? I'll let you out tommorow."
Zimo already put them both into the cage and walked away after waving at them. Now they were left inside a cage for the night. It was kinda cold to be honest.
A few minutes pasted, but Xiao Niao couldn't fall asleep. Somehow, she just didn't feel as secure compared to the safe nest she lived in. On the contrary, Wind had slept like a log. That eagle even slept on her back. If you didn't look carefully you might even think she was dead! Xiao Niao checked and Wind was still all clear and not near death. That was good.
'Hmm... oh! I haven't looked at the items in the store yet.'
She had tapped on the [Items] tab in the system store. It wasn't very different from the [Skills] tab.
[Skills] - [Items]
Restoration pill -- 5
Restoration Elixir -- 5
Random Item Package -- 10
Silver Dagger -- 15
-ect.-
'Why are these items so cheap?'
The list was in a seemingly random order of items. Although, she found a way to change the list order. Somehow, she could ask the system what she wanted, or how she wanted it listed, and the system would do it! It was quite convenient. The items were cheap and affording a few of them was no problem, however. She could afford a good skill for twenty points instead. It was indeed a troubling issue for her.
SHUFFLE---!
Xiao Niao had gotten distracted by deciding whether getting a skill, or items would be better that she didn't notice what had started sniffing around the camp. The sound of bags and luggage being moved around alerted her. Around thirteen large dark figures were walking around in the dark. The green eyes glowed in the darkness.
Xiao Niao couldn't make out what creatures were, but it walked on four legs and resembled the dogs that she saw people walking around on the sidewalks before she had died. Somehow, they gave off a chilling feeling.
The creatures looked dangerous. Xiao Niao didn't know what to do. One had even gotten closer to the cage she was in! Thankfully it only sniffed around the cage and looked at her for a while before losing interest. When it had gotten closer she saw what it's face looked like.
The fur was an almost black, grey. The fur from its mouth and neck was a white color though. The resemblance was that of a fox, but the size was too large for any normal fox! What kind of creature was that?
[Notice: That is a level 6 Night Fox.]
'A night fox? Level six? Isn't that, kind of powerful?! I've only had experience killing bugs!'
[Notice: Night Foxes are more timid than most other fox creatures and do not attack recklessly unless provoked.]
"Phew~ I hope they go away soon then.'
Since the foxes were quite curious, they probably hadn't seen any humans in a long while. They did, however, start shaking things out of the bags. Some of then even hopped into a carriage that Xiao Niao and Wind were on! They were wrecking the place!
Despite the noise no one woke up yet. Even Wind was still looking like a dead bird!
So far the foxes weren't doing anything too bad. Maybe she was just paranoid. Or.... maybe not! She jinxed herself!
A few seconds after she thought that, a fox started biting her cage! The bite wasn't too strong but it wasn't weak either. Small dents were being made on the bars. Xiao Niao started to panic. After that one fox, more and more foxes joined in to bite the cage. Fighting one fox was much different from fighting five more!
Shortly after, the entire pack started crazily try and rip the bars. The entire cage was shaking and the small dents turned into holes in the metal bars! With how things progressed, she would have to fight them.
"Hmm...? Ah- what's going on?!"
Wind finally woke up! It was about time. The gaps in the cage got large enough for them to squeeze through one at a time, but it could also fit the night fox's mouths right in.
"Wind, when the foxes clear away from an opening, fly out. I'll go after you."
Wind was confused at first, but she trusted Xiao Niao. The moment the night foxes moved away from a large gap, is when Wind saw a chance.
WA- CLANK---!
Just before Wind made it through the gap, the entire cage was flung onto the ground! It was a terrible situation. The cage even had to land on its side, which covered the largest gap.
"It's alright. We can stil-"
'...'
How much worse could this get!!! Wind might really be a dead birdy by now. The white eagle was no more as she banged her head on the ground and passed out!! How did that bird even live this long? Was what Xiao Niao was thinking. She wouldn't say it out loud, but Wind was only a tad bit dumb....er.
'Ok... so now I will have to go out first. But...'
If Xiao Niao flew out first, fighting the foxes would be a risky choice. The night foxes started kicking the cage around. They were laughing! Even though she heard almost no sound come from the night foxes, the sound they were making now was almost like a high pitched hyena's laugh!! Weren't they supposed to be friendly and curious?!
[Notice: A night fox raised in certain environments can develop completely opposite personalities.]
'Why didn't you say so before?! No, nevermind, it's not important right now.'
The cage was kicked around and the largest gap was now right in front of her. A chance! The cage was kicked pretty far too, and those foxes weren't running after her, but instead, walking over at a leisurely pace.
