As I arrived at the guild, I had decided on hiring some and entered the building. Inside there was plenty of space, as expected from these creatures. There were 3 people, who resembled receptionists. The walls were made from a white stone(marble) and the floor was covered in tiles. There was a panel at which scraps of paper were hung out and take from.
As I got in line, I noticed a metallic-scaled dragon queueing in right behind me. Neither the dragonborn nor the few other dragons inside had such scales, which is why I noticed in the first place.
A moment later it opened its mouth, apparently in surprise. Maybe it was looking at the prototype, which I still kept close by. Before I could confront it on it's gawking however, it was my turn to talk to the receptionist.
Receptionist: "Hello, how may I help you?"
I was a bit impressed by the composure, she demonstrated by not asking about my size or reacting in another major way to it.
Eclipse(Me): "I'd like to hire a high-rank adventurer."
Receptionist: "How high rank shall it be?"
Eclipse(Me): "I am planning to head to the abandoned mine in the west." The receptionist seemed slightly shocked as if she didn't expect this response.
Receptionist: "I would recommend, to take an S-rank with you, possibly 2, if you are truly planning on going there. It will be expensive though."
Eclipse(Me): "How expensive exactly?"
Receptionist: "Depends on the individual adventurer. Out strongest S-rank adventurer, Kuro is currently out of town however. Hiring the other ones would cost around one platinum coin per S-rank adventurer."
One Platinum coin would be 100 gold coins, a gold coin's average measurements are 3cm diameter, 2mm thickness. I will have to melt down a little less than one gold cube to get the coins required.
Eclipse(Me): "Unfortunately I only have it in gold."
I let one gold cube float inside and place it in front of the receptionist.
Receptionist: "I'll go get someone to help you measure this things value."
But I know the value -,- .
The receptionist disappears to the back and returns with someone in tow.
Receptionist: "Alright, you would follow him please?"
I comply and have the gold float after me. We enter into some kind of back room, with what appeared to be a weight scale on a table.
Calculator: "I'm Bob, I'm the calculator over here."
A person? A calculator? Right, that's a job in primitive civilizations.
He indicated me to put the gold on the scale and I did. There would have been no use dragging this out for any longer than necessary.
His eyes widened seeing the scale plummet to the ground, then he slowly started adding weights to the opposite side.
This moron kept stacking weights for half an hour before he finally got it balanced out.
Calculator: "This will be a sufficient amount to hire an S-rank adventurer."
YOU NEEDED ALL THAT TIME TO FIND THAT OUT!?!?
No, control your anger. I don't want to destroy anything. Seriously though... you needed all this time just to figure out that this was enough? Still, this was an underwhelming display of intellect. Primitives are slow, it is ok.
Eclipse(Me): "So, since this is enough, can I hire an S-rank adventurer now?"
Calculator: "Yes... O-of course, but are you sure you want to go there, you still look rather young."
Eclipse(Me): "What do I have to do to hire one then?"
Calculator: "We will take care of it. Well make a note on the board for the quest."
Eclipse(Me): "When can i expect results?"
Calculator: "We will contact you as soon as somebody accepted. Where are you staying over night?"
Eclipse(Me): "Actually, I changed my mind, I no longer plan on going there, as everybody seems to be afraid of that place. There must be a reason for that"
Calculator: "We fully understand."
I nod towards him and leave the room. As if, I was going to wait for some mercs to accept this mission. I'll just go there alone.
