Thunders roared and flashes of lightning struck the ground. Frederel ran from the dark clouds that were behind him. Whenever the bolts of lightning struck, his heart quickly beat as if every boom of the thunder would be the end of him. His lungs were burning as he gasped for air, desperately searching for cool air to fill his lungs.
The valley was filled with darkness as if the abyss itself was forming from that very place. Trees swayed back and forth and the ground shook.
Frederel wore a silver robe with golden linings at the ends of his robe. His face was full of wrinkles and it wore a tired look. The light on his eyes were slowly dimming, but he continued to run because he knew that he was on an important quest.
After a few minutes, he stopped. He knelt and he quickly put his face down to the ground. His eyes quickly scanned the earth beneath. It was perfect. The soil, the insects, the contents and the quality of the ground was rich.
Frederel quickly took out the seed that was hidden inside his robe, and from his shoulder, a strange furry animal materialized.
"Is this it?" the creature asked as he jumped down in front of Frederel and stood in 2 feet. It looked at him as tears started to form on its eyes. Its voice was that of a cat's, but instead of just saying the word 'meow', it spoke the human's language fluently.
Frederel started digging the ground with his bare hands as quickly as possible, his hands started bleeding but he didn't care. When he felt that it was deep enough he quickly planted the seed and returned the soil to once where it was.
Frederel stood up and looked down at the creature that was in front of him.
"Guard this seed. Watch over it as it grows."
The creature was at loss. It said with a low and tender voice, "what then should I do after it's fully grown?"
"Fate will guide you."
The old man bent and slowly patted the head of the creature. He gave the creature a warm smile and whispered, "Fate has reached its end on me. I'm sorry that you will have to face all of these alone. Be strong and take courage. Now go and quickly flee from this place, don't let them find you."
He ordered the creature as he pointed to the direction that was in front of him.
Tears started coming out of the creatures eyes. It quickly ran as it disappeared in the darkness.
Frederel took a deep breath. He used his very last strength and sprinted to the opposite direction. He needed to run away as far as possible, away from the place where he planted the seed.
Frederel ran as fast as the wind. Anyone who would see him running would definitely see him as a blur.
The air on his surroundings started to become hot and Frederel started to slow down, his legs were vigorously shaking and he felt dizzy due to lack of blood supply in his head. He felt the effects of his old age started to kick in. He knew that he was at his limit.
Suddenly, dark clouds started to surround him and swirled as it evolved into a hurricane.
Trees were uprooted and houses started flying. Countless eyes stared at the person who was standing inside the dark hurricane.
"Search him, quickly!"
"Search everywhere!"
Voices came out of the hurricane. They hissed and laughed.
Frederel could no longer fight back, he was way past his limit. He was thrown into the air and countless shadows searched his whole body. They tore his robe and mercilessly attacked him as if he was nothing but a ragdoll.
"Where is it?!" The voices hissed at him.
Frederel kept silent as he endured all the pain and slashes that his body received.
The shadows searched and searched but found nothing. Then a dark figure wearing a black and loose robe stepped out of the hurricane.
"Search where his sycophant is," The figure ordered the shadows. He turned around and started to walk towards the ferocious swirling clouds.
"The King is dead. Now Fate is no longer in control." His voice receded and the swirling clouds started to show signs of slowing down.
.....
2:00 a.m., Geneva.
It was raining cats and dogs in Geneva. People were either asleep or praying. No one foolishly dared to go outside of their houses and challenge the force of nature.
In a hospital, Reila was filling out information on a piece of paper. She was a nurse for over 5 years in that hospital. She had a soft facial feature and her eyes were light blue. Her figure was not that good due to years of sleepless nights and unhealthy diet.
She looked around and sighed.
"Why am I the only one doing work here?" Her gaze landed on the patient's waiting area where one doctor and some few nurses were sitting and were fully immersed on the T.V.
The T.V.'s signal was quite weak because of the storm and it buzzed every now and then but the staffs were deeply focused and tried to understand every word that was coming out of the newscaster's mouth.
"An unexpected storm hits the valley of Fories.... The weather forecast didn't foresee such a disaster that was coming.... Unexpected hurricane formed in the midst of the storm.... We highly advise all of you to stay indoors...."
"Man, what an unexpected disaster. This sure does give me the chills," A man in his 40's commented.
He was a nurse and had a medium-build body. He stood up and looked over to Reila who was busy filling up paperworks.
"Shouldn't we go back to our work? I'll go give some medication to our patients." The male nurse walked towards the pharmacy where he requested some medicines and some injections.
Another female nurse stood up and volunteered to help him out with the task.
The doctor inwardly sighed. Due to the storm, there were no patients coming at this hour. Even though it was a primary hospital, it was quite popular among other hospitals. Patients kept coming and coming, choosing this hospital rather than other primary hospitals. In Geneva, there were quite a lot of primary hospitals, but only few secondary and tertiary hospitals.
Hehe, I guess this is a blessing in disguise for me to relax... The doctor smiled and closed his eyes as he leaned his back on the chair and bowed his head.
