Chereads / Blood: Fallen World / Chapter 4 - STARING AT DEATH

Chapter 4 - STARING AT DEATH

He unsheathed both his swords, as he hacked at the zombies in front of him as he tried to clear a path through them.

With every swing of his sword a zombie either lost a head or a limb as he wielded both blades like a mad man. With every passing moment, more zombies came rushing right at him without realizing, the zombies which were after him previously had emerged from the corner as they joined the others.

The zombies slowly cut off his only route of escape as they charged at him from his back.

Cutting the heads off a few zombies he stylishly spun his sword as he was prepared to attack and defend from both sides.

His breathing slowly became erratic as he fought, if it was some other D class hunter who was caught in the middle of this zombie swarm they might already be dead id they were lacking in stamina. The fact that he was able to last this long was already surprising.

His shirt was almost ripped to shreds as the zombies clawed at him injuring him all over his body, he ignored the pain as he focused on a single thought.

"I can't possibly die single" he thought to himself.

He started to conserve his strength as he prepared to use the remaining energy he had left to charge through the heart of the zombies. This plan was borderline reckless but was still the best he could possibly think of.

If he charged right he would easily get killed the moment his attention drifted the moment he made his move, same thing if he moved right or turned around.

At this moment someone could say he was 'Staring at Death'.

He slowly fought the zombies as their bodies piled all around him, it would not be wrong to say he was being attacked from above as well since the dead zombies around him had made quite the heap with him at the center.

"If I remember correctly there was a building with steel doors not far from here" he thought. "If I can just make it that far, I'll be safe" he thought as he bid his time looking for the chance to break through.

This continued for a couple more minutes, he was steadily losing strength as the battle dragged on.

"I don't think I can hold on much longer" thought Ray as he endured the pain he felt and the exhaustion kicking in.

"It's either now or never" he screamed out loud as he threw the blade in his left hand forward into the air, he instantly gabbed his second sword with both hands as he made a wide cleaving motion. This move was of course vanishing Cleave the only sword technique he knew which had a large attack range with quite a large amount of power behind it.

"Chance!!!" he thought in his head as he saw an opening which was made by the sudden confusion of the zombies.

He burst into a sprint as he caught his second blade, he swiftly killed his way through the remaining zombies.

He finally made it through the zombie swarm narrowly as he saw the setting sun, a feeling of hope came rushing at him but he knew that just because he made it through he would be safe.

He forced himself to run as fast as he could but he could not move that fast because of the injuries he had sustained all over his body. He estimated a fifteen second window before the zombies figured out he was running and chased after him.

"Need to move" he thought as he ran leaving a bloody trail behind him.

His eyesight blurred from exhaustion and his legs slowly losing feeling, he ran, 10, 9, 8...

He was barely half way there when the zombies seemed to have caught on that the dinner they were all egging for had disappeared, they stood there momentarily dazed, 7, 6, 5, 4…

He finally made it to the door just to be seen by one zombie which screamed drawing the attention of the swarm as they all turned to see him enter the building, they all charged at a frightening speed.

In less time that it took him to get to the halfway point the zombies had already reached there, he scrambled around for something to block the door with through blurred eyes. He managed to find a very long steel pipe which he quickly dragged to the already closed steel doors as he put it though the handle of the steel doors.

The door was one of those push to open doors but were not made with glass like others but with steel.

The moment the steel pipe was in place securing the door, he passed out from the exhaustion.

His eyes glowed red as he laid sprawled on the floor before it dimmed back to its normal dreamy brown color.

It was an hour before he regained consciousness, as he opened his eyes in the poorly lit building confused a first before remembering what had happened. He shivered from the mere thought of what would have happened had he still been stuck in the middle of the zombie swarm.

As he tried to move he felt pain all over his body, thankfully his bag was very sturdy and was not that damaged so he still had his supplies, he immediately started to treat his injuries first.

It took him half an hour to finish tending to his wounds before he brought out half of his remaining rations to eat before hunching himself in the corner to sleep. He knew that tomorrow would be even more dangerous because these low classed zombies were unusual and would not separate.

"I have to rest or I'll definitely die tomorrow" he thought, "I can't possibly die after coming this far" he said to himself, as if reminding himself that they was no option which had him dying, to be acceptable. At this point dying was not allowed.
