Feeling amused, Alex extended his right leg walked out of his carriage. The sky was shining brightly and a gentle breeze ruffled his hair. Alex noticed that surrounding him were many people wearing shiny looking armor and equipped with all kinds of weapons. Some were feeding their horses, some were polishing their swords, some simply enjoyed the scenery while the rest vigilantly guarded his carriage.
'Huh, atleast the sky is pretty similar to Earth's. Judging from the attire of the people around me and the fact that I am travelling in a carriage, it looks like whatever world I am in is in medeival era. These people look like soldiers tasked with escorting me to some place. Didn't that female voice mentioned a name? Rosefall, was it? Is that the name of some city? Maybe.'
It was then that the closest soldier near Alec noticed him and hurriedly saluted.
"My lord!"
His voice was loud enough that it catched everyone's attention. Soon, all the soldiers adopted a somber face and followed.
"My lord!"
Alex was inwardly shocked but tried to maintain a calm face. Not knowing how to respond, he instinctively nodded. That seemed to have worked, since the soldiers resumed whatever they were doing prior to his arrival, but this time, no was laughing or talking loudly.
'Seems like I am really some kind of noble. That was close! I did not expect that response. I feel like a general of an army or something.'
Inwardly sighing, Alex tried to find something which could prove his hypothesis of this being a different world. Perhaps, something magical? But he found nothing of that sort. He and his group were standing in some kind of clearing and he could see a wide road nearby. He couldn't see anything else since there was nothing but trees everywhere. Huge trees, which clearly did not look earthly, but Alex didn't have much idea about trees in the first place so he couldn't be sure.
"My lord!"
Hearing the familiar voice, Alex turned around.
Standing in front of him was a beautiful woman wearing silver colored armor. There were two daggers attached to her waist and a huge bow was on her back. What surprised Alex most was her scarlet hair and scarlet eyes.
Suddenly, Alex felt a throbbing in his head and some unfamiliar memories awakened. In an instant, Alex gained some knowledge about his identity, but they weren't complete. Atleast, he now knew that his name was Alex Nightsteel. And this beautiful woman in front of him was Sylvia, the captain of his personal guards.
'Well, it looks my theory of memories awakening from familar faces was correct. It's a pity that I only gained a limited amount of informaton, but maybe as I meet more familiar faces, the dormant memories of the previous host will gradually awaken.'
Bringing his attention back to Sylvia, Alex smiled.
"Syliva, you look beautiful as ever. Any troubles?"
Inwardly though, Alex was feeling amused.
'Looks like the previous Alex and Sylvia were very close to each other. Judging from their past interactions, Sylvia clearly had a crush on him, yet this guy was too dense to see that. Her past attempts at flirting were truly hilarious.'
Hearing her lord's words, Sylvia couldn't help but blush. Her heart starting beating wildly. But the next moment, she forcefully calmed herself and replied with a serious face.
"There were a few wild monsters we encountered along the way, but there were swiftly dealt with. There were no casualties and nobody was injured. We will be ready to depart in next 30 minutes."
Alex nodded.
"Good. When we reach Rosefall, make sure the soldiers are well fed and rested. Oh, and any word from Vanessa?"
Sylvia assented.
"Yes, we received a message from her knight asking about our whereabouts and possible time of arrival. I have already replied in your stead."
With a nod, Alex patted her shoulders and walked back to his carriage. Only after he was gone that a smile emerged on Sylvia's otherwise cold face.
'My lord said I was beautiful! It's been years since he complimented my appearance! Perhaps my charm is finally working?'
Sylvia very much wanted to continue her wild fantasies, but as the captain of her lord's guards, she had a duty to fulfill. Back to her cold face, Sylvia resumed her survey of the guards.
Back inside his carriage, Alex felt relieved as he sat down.
'Finally, I have some memories to work on. I was afraid that I might not get any. In that case, there was a high chance of arousing suspicion or getting caught. Thankfully, I avoided such a crisis.'
'Hmm, it seems I have landed myself in a strange and dangerous world...'
From what information Alex gathered from his incomplete memories, this was a magical world so vast that nobody knew what lay outside the so called central continent. Many races had established their kingdoms and Empires on the continent of Aesteroth and humans controlled one-tenth of the continent. Alex's father, Darren Nightsteel was the Count of Norkeep and a upper noble under the Emerald Empire.
Apart from this, the rest of the awakened memories didn't contain much information about the world. Alex was curious, but he decided to be patient and slowly explore the world. Atleast, the memories did give him glimpses of how previous Alex behaved, so he could easily mimic the so called noble's behavior.
He also realised that he was travelling to a city called Rosefall, which was ruled by his elder sister Vanessa. She was getting married to Duke Warrence Arnbell in the royal capital and as the heir to Nighsteel family, he was sent to escort her to the royal capital, where the marriage will take place in the presence of royalty.
Alex sighed as he massaged his temple. He still had no idea about the power system of this world. He was also curious about whether he had any cheats. He had read plenty of webnovels and naturally, he had some expectations after suddenly finding himself in such a familiar setting. But his memories were missing and he could only go with the flow and wait for them to gradually awaken.
Straightening his back, Alex simply closed his eyes and took a nap. After some time, he awoke to the shaking of the carriage and the neighing of horses.
'So we are on the move again. A few more hours until we reach Rosefall. I hope I can learn something useful in Vanessa's castle.'
