Chapter 4 - Nice to Meet You

"That was a tough monster."

When Amaya finally caught her breath, she looked over at a tree where the little girl was hiding.

Amaya reasured her with a soothing voice.

"It's okay. You can come out now."

The girl peeked out, taking a few moments to make sure it was really safe. Once fully out form cover, her appearance was clear. The clothes she had on were damaged, her skin was covered in dirt and her hair was nappy. It had probably been a month or more since she took a bath. There was one more thing about this little girl, she had animal ears on her head, not the kind you put on, they were real animal ears, a fox's.

'Are those fox ears? This must be one of those animal hybrids or something. Cute.' Amaya thought to herself.

The little girl was still in a state of distrust, not sure if she should trust the white-haired stranger in front.

Amaya made sure to reasure her once again, "Everything is fine. I'm not going to hurt you. You can trust me, okay?"

The little girl finally gathered the courage to speak.

"...Thank you...for saving me."

Amaya smiled gently, "No problem"

She then patted the girl on the head and followed up with another sentence.

"My name is Amaya, what's yours?"

The girl stuttered a bit when replying, "M-My name is Emi."

It was by chance that Amaya heard the girl's cry for help. If she hadn't been aware, Emi most definatley would've become food for that bear monster.

Just like with everything Amaya came across , she couldn't help but take peek at the her stats.

['Analyze' activated]

(Emi: Level: 1 Hp:8 Mp:6 Atk:2 Speed:5 Endurance:9 Exp: 0/100)

'I'm surprised that she was able to survive this long in the forest with stats like that' Amaya thought to herself and locked eyes with the girl, starling her.

"Umm. Miss, why are you staring so much? You're not going to eat me, are you?"

"Oh..Sorry, I was thinking about something. I'm not going to eat you."

The sound of rumbling made Amaya turn with speed, checking the suroundings.

'Another monster? I'm already too tired. I can't handle another one.

Left, right, behind, there didn't seem to be anything nearby. She was ready to take Emi and run off, but there was no need. Amaya saw the sight of Emi holding her tummy in embarassment, it was only the sound of hunger.

"You know what sounds good right now? A meal. Let's go, I'll treat us both."

Emi's eyes lit up with joy, it was like she had't been offered a meal in awhile.

"F-Food? Really? Okay."

They both started walking in the direction towards the town.

___________

(Angel's Diner)

The two of them lifted and read through the menu's. The options looked tasty for just a small town.

"Do you know what you want?" Amaya asked.

Emi nodded with great exitement, "Yes."

A waiter was quick to show up.

"What will you have today?" He asked.

Amaya pointed a a photo a fires on the menu.

"I'll take these bad boys. The large plate."

Emi pointed at her order, a photo a pasta and meatballs.

"Pasta with big meatball please!" She exhaled.

The smiled, "I'll be back right away!"

He sprinted of to the kitchen, it was clear this waiter was passionate about his job.

With some time to spare while they wait, Amaya asked Emi a question.

"So, what's your story?

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, what is your life story. Why were you in that forest all alone? Where are you're parents or gaurdians?"

Emi let her eyes drift down at the table while a look of sadness filled them.

"Well, It's a long long story. It started when I was nine."

She began to speak her story of life.

When Emi was nine, she lived in a peaceful village with her mother and father.

One day, Her father had to head out to a nearby town for work because there was some trouble there. He was a knight. He was in a hurry to gather his equipment and leave.

Emi's mother shrugged it off, after all, the man was always busy. After her father l had left, Emi and her mother waited all day for him to come back, but he never returned.

Emi was starting to worry, Her mother told her that her father was okay and he was just really busy.

"He will be home in a couple of days" said her mother.

That night loud explosions woke Emi and her mother up. Emi's mother told her to wait in the room while she saw what had caused the noises. Emi's mom had a bad feeling so instead of going outside, she looked out the window. Her eyes widened in fear as she saw houses on fire and demons slaughtering the villagers.

She ran back to the room and grabbed Emi. They ran out of the house to flee to the forest.

Before they were about to make it out of the village they stopped. Three demons were blocking the way.

The demons started to laugh and yell as they rushed at Emi and her mother. A knight showed up and jumped in front of them and started fighting off the demons.

He yelled "Get out of here while I hold em off."

The man was holding his own but he was no match.

Emi and her mother fled the village and made it into the forest.

They decided to head to the village that Emi's father went to for his work the other day.

The sun started to rise and they made it near the village. As they got closer they discovered the horrible truth that Emi's father was hiding. Houses were destroyed and damaged. There were corpses of knights, demons and people who live in that town. Emi was terrified and began to cry.

"Does that mean father is de-" but before she could finish her sentence, her mother picked her up and said "Everything is going to be okay."

One year later Emi's mother died while on an S-rank quest. In order to take care of herself, Emi would go to find items and sell them to shops. She did this for about a year. Then one day she went to a forest to look for items. That's when she came across a monster that was going to kill her. A girl named Amaya showed up and defeated the monster. Amaya took Emi to town to get something to eat.

"So that's my story up until now." said Emi

Amaya was surprised by how much Emi had been through.

She then thought to herself.

"Because of my bad luck I came across a demon before, it was pretty terrifying."

The waiter came back with the plates. He placed the fries in front of Amaya and placed the meat balls in front of Emi.

"Let's talk more after we eat." Amaya suggested.

"Okay."

They finally finished eating.

" So, what do you plan to do now?" Amaya asked.

"I plan to keep doing what I'm doing."

"Me and you basically do the same thing, except I fight monsters. If you want to, then we can team up. I'll have to teach you how to fight though."

Emi surprised as nobody had ever offered to help her out.

"Okay,

"We're going to have to get some equipment if we are going to team up. Let's head out."

Amaya stood up and walked to the door as Emi followed.

They both walked out.

Weapon Shop.... Amaya and Emi walked in.

"Oh, so your back." said the middle aged man.

"Yeah, I am. Do you buy Items?" Amaya asked.

The man smiled.

"I sure do. Show me what ya got?"

Amaya went to the menu and looked at her Item list.

(Items: Shadow bear claw: (x10) Snail slime: (x4) No other items)

Amaya walked over to the counter and placed four jars of snail slime and ten claws on the counter.

"The most I can give you for all of this is one hundred-forty copper or one silver and forty copper. Which one?"

"I'll take one hundred- forty copper," Amaya replied.

The man handed a bag full of copper coins to Amaya.

"What's the cheapest weapon you got?" Amaya asked.

"Hold on a minute."

He went down behind the counter. When he came back up, he placed a small dagger on the counter.

"That'll be one hundred copper"

Amaya looked at the weapon and it's stats came into veiw.

(Weapon: Atk:55)

"At least this weapon is stronger than the dagger I bought." Amaya thought to herself.

She placed one- hundred copper on the counter.

Amaya then pointed at Emi.

"Do you have any shirts that'll fit her?"

The man looked surprised.

"Wow. She does need a new shirt. Give me a second."

The man slowly went down behind the counter. When he came up, he placed a small long sleeved grey shirt on the counter.

"How much?" Amaya asked.

The man looked at Emi then looked at Amay.

"You can just take this one."

Amaya wore a surprised look.

"Really? Thanks."

She grabbed the shirt and walked towards the door then stopped.

"I'll be sure to buy something more expensive next time."

Her and Emi then walked out. The sun was starting to set as Amaya looked up.

"It's getting late. I know about this really cheap Inn. It's not what you would call good quality but at least it's a place to sleep. Let's go there."

Emi rubbed her eyes

"Okay."

They headed towards the Inn.
