Chapter 222 - Dusk Vine Revenant

Milena gazed at the newly evolved creature in front of them. For a second there, she almost forgot that she was staring at a Ghost.

"This is no longer a Wood Yin Spectre. Such a thing was only a peak Rank 1 Wood Yin Spirit, that had limited spiritual awareness, and an imbalance between its Wood Attribute and Yin Attribute. It was probably forcibly nurtured or created by that idiot from before, which meant that its potential was impacted even further".

Arthur lifted his hand, and tucked a stray green coloured hair behind the ghosts ear. His action seemed almost gentle, caring, something that most of the Fae Masters in front of him had never seen before.

"Using the Spiritual Wood Heart, I corrected the imbalance between Wood and Yin. Its innate spiritual awareness was also increases drastically by the Fae material, however its body was not strong enough to take such a enormous increase to its base potential.

The Ghost Tendril Vines are a type of Fae material that specifically devour ghosts. However, it is not a material that can grow forever. Once it reaches its maximum size, it will stop growing. If you push anything else into it, the Vines will die, but still possess all of the spiritual essence inside.

They were used as a storage, to assist the Wood Yin Spectre in containing all of its new power. The process might seem simple enough, however there is only about a 50% chance of it actually working. Which is also why I brought two of these Spiritual Wood Hearts".

Arthur placed his hand on the head of the shorter ghost, patting it slightly as he gestured for Milena and the others to come closer.

"This is no longer a Rank 1 Wood Yin Spectre. It is a Rank 1 Dusk Vine Revenant".

The ranking of ghosts was the most complex, considering that unlike Corpses, spirit beasts or spirit plants, they did not have origin essence seas. A Spirit Leech with ruby origin essence would be a Rank 2 spirit beast, even if its capabilities were not on par with most Rank 2 creatures.

Ghosts had a different method of Ranking, one that measured potential, rather than actual power.

At the bottom there were Shades, which possessed the weakest potential.

Followed by Remnants who in the scheme of things were also weak.

After that were Spectres, whom were considered acceptable by most Fae Masters.

Then Ghosts who were much stronger, and had a much greater potential.

After that were Revenants who had the potential to at least match a Rank 4 Fae Master.

Following on after that were Wraiths who had the ability to match a Rank 5 Fae Master.

All types of ghosts devoured other ghosts in order to grow stronger. They could also devour the souls of spirit beasts, humans and even members of the Myriad Races if they could get their hands on them.

Increasing the quality of the ghost needed Fae materials, while increasing the strength of the ghost needed souls, or spiritual essence from living creatures.

"Ghosts are existences that don't need Fae, or rather, they are created from the deaths of Fae and living creatures. As such, Fae cannot be used or touched by Ghosts, which the greatest disadvantage of being a Ghost Tamer. However, seeing that they do not Fae in order to evolve is the greatest advantage of being a Ghost Tamer. In the scheme of things, it is cheaper".

"Take this Dusk Vine Revenant for instance. In comparison to the Wood Yin Spectre, its defensive abilities are much higher, and its attack range extends out further due to the influence from its newly gained vine abilities. It's ability to possess and influence the physical world is much greater as well, and anyone possessed by it would gain the physical strength of a Rank 1 Fae Master on top of their original strength".

"The higher ranked a ghost is, the closer they are to their appearance during the time that they were alive. Even though the Wood Yin Spectre was created using a combination of negative emotions, its current appearance is born from the strongest emotion that it was born from".

Arthur gestured to the green haired, green skinned little boy beside him. In terms of appearance, it was somewhat similar to Arthur when he had his Boundless Forest Yearning activated. However, his physique was much smaller, and his appearance much more dainty.

Milena gazed at the little ghost with wide eyes, and unconsciously tried to reach out and touch him. The little ghost, not understanding what she was trying to do, just stood there silently, and let Milena brush her fingers against his cheek.

The little ghost looked up towards Arthur, who just nodded in return.

"The quality of corpses that you use Milena is much too low. Using the remains of Lord Ranked spirit beasts is easy enough, but you have to try and enhance the basic attributes of the Corpse as much as possible before turning it into a poison jar. The size, Attribute, species, environment and Fae that you use all influence the quality of poison that you will create.

"Take your Essence Leaf Bear Corpse. A bear species Wood Attributed Corpse whose size allows you to carry and store greater amounts of Corpse Poison. You have to make sure that the corpse poison you try to create doesn't go against the innate properties of your Corpse. Otherwise, even if it does work, the effects will be reduced. The need for changing the Corpses properties is also a possibility".

Arthur turned towards the rest of the group, the vast majority of whom were still looking at the Dusk Vine Revenant, an expression of shock still fresh on their faces.

Arthur clicked his finger a couple times, snapping them out of their shock. They turned towards their Leader, who narrowed his eyes at them.

"This goes for all of you as well! Using Tamed creatures is greatest technique of this Era. Even more so than the Blacksmithing and Alchemy Attributes that were created during the previous Era. You must also know how to counter them if you do encounter them, or potentially learn about them in order to create them".

"I am not your Master, nor am I your Fathers. The Fae that you choose to specialize in are your own business, however, considering that we are a team and work together, you have to tell us beforehand. We'll have to change strategies and tactics in order to supplement your new style, so don't go off on your own".

"Is that understood?".

""Yes!"", they all nodded.

Arthur had opened the door to new possibilities in their minds. The World of Taming Attributed Fae Masters was a long one and getting started so late put them at a disadvantage to those individuals from large Clans and Sects.

Arthur wasn't definitely not going to teach them everything he knew, but motivating them, and pushing them towards something, even subtly, was something that he could do.

He didn't use Tamed creatures in his previous life, but understanding them now would give him greater benefits in the future. Ghosts didn't need Fae in order to be nurtured, although they did need Fae in order to be created.

That, or a special Fae from the other Thirty Three Heavens.

Gazing down at the 120 centimetre little ghost Arthur patted its head before deciding something within him.

"You're green, so your name will be Verde. Is that understood?".

The little ghost just started at Arthur, its eyes widen for a few seconds before it nodded.

Arthur turned around, walking away, causing the little ghost to pause for a moment again, before trailing after its Master.
