Chapter 68 - - 67 -

I exited my class, unsure of where to turn for my new magic class with Midnight. I began to think of some probable locations, automatically ruling out meeting in his office and I debated on whether he would be outside in the field with the other magic class. Eventually settling on the possibility of him being in the courtyard or another empty section of the field outside, I began to navigate through the numerous hallways, trying not to collide with any students intent on moving in the opposite direction I was going in. I was also not too confident in my assumption, doubting that my principal would be teaching in the courtyard of all locations. It was indeed spacious, but not enough to have intensive magical lessons inside of it.

Opening the doors to the courtyard, I began to search for Midnight. After my initial look over yielded nothing, I began to move around to look in some places that would be hidden. Despite my efforts, I still couldn't find Midnight. At this point, I simply exited the courtyard, feeling as if I had wasted my time.

"Feste," my principal's voice rang through my head as I rounded a corner in the hallway. I immediately ducked into a safe portion of the hallway and focused intently on Midnight's telepathy. "I'm sorry, I just lost track of time as I was having a small meeting," he continued. "You can start heading toward the field if you haven't done so already. I'll hopefully be done preparing when you arrive." I grumbled slightly since I indeed waste my time. However, I began my journey toward the outside of the school. "I'll see you soon," my principal concluded.

I finally arrived at the school's front doors. Breathing a sigh of relief, I joined the small flow of students that were also leaving the school. It was much easier to spot Midnight this time, but he was standing quite a distance away from me. Groaning once again, I stride over toward my principal. However, the sheer amount of distance urged me to break out into a sprint.

My principal glanced over at me and I assumed that his expression was one of sympathetic sadness, my eyesight only making Midnight a distant blur. A few instants later, I found myself running through a portal. Before I could react, Midnight was only a few paces in front of me. Caught off guard, I immediately halted, almost tripping into my principal's torso.

"Feste," Midnight greeted. "I'm sorry. I could've conjured a portal to bring you here quicker, but I was just setting up."

"Oh..." I regained my composure slowly until I could stand firmly. "It's nothing."

"Oh, no. I can see that you're frustrated." Midnight gulped but shook his head. "Well, I have a new method of teaching prepared for you. It's experimental, but I believe that you will find it interesting."

"What would that be?" I shot Midnight a quizzical look.

"While most classes would carefully lead you through the curriculum to ensure that the knowledge sticks," Midnight explained, "I can inject the knowledge directly into your mind. You will still need to practice it, but you will almost instantly know how to execute the spell."

"You can do that?" I was stunned. I had that same idea while I was left to my own devices inside my monotonous classes, but I quickly dismissed the idea. Now that Midnight proposed it, however, I thought that my teachers were probably powerful enough to give us the knowledge directly.

"Sure, but it's experimental. It may not work at all," Midnight shrugged.

"Can it... hurt me in any way?" If Midnight was stalling this heavily, I thought that there would be some strings attached.

Midnight shook his head. "No. Not for you, anyway. If you were weak enough, you would have a brief episode of retrograde amnesia. Its severity can vary based on how magically sensitive you are."

I stiffened my stance. "Ah. I'm ready, then."
