Chapter 69 - - 68 -

Midnight nodded. "You may feel a bit uncomfortable for a few seconds. Oh, and there might be a slight tingling sensation." He then planted his hands onto my head, closing his eyes as he established a firm grip. I also decided to close my eyes as the magic began to take place. Midnight was right; a tingling sensation shot through my head. It wasn't painful, not at all. Instead, it felt as if I was being tickled.

Only a few seconds elapsed before I began to recall a certain spell. It was one that I hadn't heard of previously, one that allowed me to read others' minds. With a small jolt, I realized that the spell Midnight was executing began to solidify the spell into my memory, deeper than any knowledge I had obtained during lessons in school.

Midnight finally let me go, unclasping my head. I slowly opened my eyes and my principal mirrored me, his arms falling to his sides. "Do you know the spell now?" He asked.

"Yes," I nodded, knowing precisely the things that I needed to do to initiate the spell.

Midnight took a few steps back, halting a few paces away from me. "Alright, show me what you can do."

I instinctively reached into my mind and started to follow the set of instructions that I needed to follow to perform the spell. It started to work, but I felt as if my mind wasn't used to this particular spell. Finally, I managed to push through this and pulled it off.

Now inside Midnight's mind, I had a vague sense of what he was thinking. These thoughts, although they were very unclear and vague, were ones of praise and pride. I assumed that this lack of clarity was because Midnight taught me a spell without having instructed me on it earlier. I pulled out of Midnight's mind and shook my head, trying to reorient myself in the real world.

Midnight eyed my confused expression. "Did you manage to execute the spell correctly?" He inquired. "And did you have any difficulties with it?"

"No, no," I replied after getting my bearings. "I mean, I did it. The spell. It was just so unclear and surreal..." I held my head with the palm of my hand.

"That's because you still need to practice it," Midnight continued. "There is no real way to help advance one's magical abilities." My principal took a deep breath. "And because of that, I'm going to give you some time to practice that spell. Once you feel as though you've gotten a hang of it, we can move onto something else."

I walked through the hallway after all of my classes were finished for the day. Midnight had been considerate of my limits and while he pushed me until I grew a small but noticeable amount, he was also careful not to strain me too far.

I happened upon the poster for Sukath's beginner's club and my eyes darted across the small piece of paper until I spotted Sukath's dormitory number. I sighed and began making my way toward the destination that was indicated; room 2304. From what I knew about the school's layout, it was quite far away from my room, which had the number 1652. To access the dormitory rooms in the second level from my room, you had to first leave my dormitory area of the school, navigate down a hallway, ascend some stairs then search through a copy of the ground level. I groaned but was at the least grateful that I didn't have to walk across the entire school, something that I needed to do between some of my classes.
