Chapter 37 - - 37 -

"Now you should be caught up with everything." Day looked over at me for the first time in quite a while. "Perhaps even slightly ahead."

I shifted in my chair. I was starting to get uncomfortable, I'd been sitting for so long. Pushing my chair backward, I stood and stretched. "Thank you, Sir. For everything." I realized that if he hadn't appeared to get me out of custody, I would have remained in that cell for significantly longer than I had.

"It's no problem." Within a few seconds later we were both standing. I reached over and turned off the lamp attached to the desk that had been on during our session.

Day began to move towards the door. Opening it, he nodded. "I'll see you soon. Remember to pack up, you'll get back to the school tonight." With that, he was out of sight.

I gathered my papers and reviewed them, thinking of ways I could develop my essay; how I would structure it, the language I would use and what points I would introduce at what times.

My train of thought was interrupted by another visitor at the door. It was Day, he had come back. "I'm terribly sorry for asking, Feste," he breathed, "but have you had that dream last night? The 'labyrinth' one, you called it."

I gulped, my heart skipping a beat. "Windell looked at that part of my memory? I thought he only looked at the parts that would help with the search."

"He thought that it should at least get some recognition." Day was now completely in my room. "And when I talked with Midnight, he said that he was working on treating your condition."

"Treating it? You mean, I won't wake up in there anymore?"

"Yes," My teacher nodded. "At least, if Midnight can find a cure for you. Which he most likely will be able to do, I reassure you of that."

The room seemed to shake at the realization. All my life I had been waiting for something to happen about it, but this sudden piece of news struck me all at once. "Thank... you?"

"It's no problem. So did you wake up in there last night?"

"I did," I simply replied. This seemed like it was enough to satisfy Day and he began to walk out of the room, leaving me all alone. Meanwhile, I began to feel the weight of the entire situation. Excitement began to overwhelm me, and I eventually shook my head after an undefined amount of time. Finally getting off my bed, I decided to start packing up my belongings, ensuring that I would be ready to leave the hotel.

The door creaked open while I was inside the shower. Upon hearing the voice that spoke mere moments later, I knew that Chaz had come back. "Oh, you're here already."

"Yes," I replied, speaking over the sound of running water. "How was it?"

"Alright." The sound of a bag being rustled crept into my ears. "Saw some new things, though. Like the 'rugged' part of the town, he called it."

I assumed that Slith meant the run-down portion of it, where Ittisk and Thrack had taken me. Sighing, I avoided flashing back to the numerous memories that had accumulated. "Yeah."

Chaz continued the conversation some tens of seconds later. "I'm sorry," he spoke in a somewhat pained voice. "I didn't mean to-"

"Don't worry about it. Just... Yeah. I'm fine."

"Must've been hard," Chaz continued. "I would've freaked out, probably."

Deciding to ignore Chaz, I kept on with cleaning myself. Minutes of idle showering passed until I felt as if I could keep down my involuntary recollections. At this point, even certain moments from my first incident had slipped into my mind. I finally convinced myself that everything was going to be fine in due time. That if the principal could get rid of my labyrinth he could somehow deal with my trauma.
