CHAPTER 17; PROOF FOR THE TRUTH
"Hey! I thought you were going to leave me in the ditch! Thanks, by the way I've got to see my star, bye!" Saet Byul thanked Ma Roo and ran to Rin's room. Rin was reading a Mary Sue the comic book. "Rin, am sleeping here for the night." Saet Byul gave the news to Rin immediately. "Oh my God!" Rin exclaimed and she threw the book away. "You are staying with me, good thing, your suitcase is still here!" Rin said happily. "Yeah! It's just one night not like it's a week or something like that but anyway, let open a YouTube account where we'll post videos of you singing." Saet Byul said the last sentence. Rin just smiled and didn't say a thing. "I need to take a shower, it is already dark." Saet Byul said and went to the living room and got her pink suitcase and drove it to Rin's room.
After coming back, Saet Byul entered the bathroom and then came back like she had forgotten something. "Saet Byul, what is it? I thought you had gone to bathe, why are you back?" Rin asked. "Um, honestly, am not used to bathing alone, my mom helps me out most of the times she doesn't work at night. Could you come and just keep me company." Saet Byul said with her head down. "Absolutely, I'd love to." Rin threw the book away and stood up enthusiastically.
In the bathroom Saet Byul was sitting in bubbly foam filled water, Rin was sitting there silently staring at her. "This is not the company I was expecting for." Saet Byul said disappointed by the atmosphere. "What do I have to do?" Rin asked. "Why not join me?" Saet Byul said excitedly. "No thanks." Rin rejected the offer. "Hey don't play hard to get, this bathtub is large enough to accommodate at least 2 adult people and we are both girls." Saet Byul offered again. "Let me go bring my book so that I could pass time reading it." Rin declined the offer thinking it'll be weird seeing turn into mermaid. She stood up to go bring her book but was pulled into the bathtub by Saet Byul. "Ah!" Rin screamed.
Saet Byul was laughing thinking it was hilarious but something made her almost choke on her laugh, "*cough*cough* What is happening?" She couldn't believe her eyes. A pinkish fog surrounded Rin's legs and by the time it was gone, they weren't legs anymore but a silver glittering fin. Saet Byul rubbed her eyes a few times to make sure that she wasn't dreaming. "Rin, your…your...legs." She staggered. "I told you." Rin said. "So it was all true! Impossible. OMG who else knows this!" Saet Byul asked in disbelief from what she had seen. "No one has ever believed me."
Saet Byul moved her hand and touched her fin to see if it was real, it felt real. Rin moved her fin from the water and they immediately turned into legs. "Hey, it's not a big deal, come and get dressed up. Rin thought it didn't make much of a big matter because she didn't know much of what it is like here on land. "It is a gigantic big deal you really being a mermaid." Saet Byul exclaimed. Rin didn't say anything but handed Saet Byul a towel and walked away because she felt like she had explained for the past times and didn't want to explain anymore.
After they had worn their pyjamas, Saet Byul wanted a full explanation from Rin. "Rin, I need an explanation for this." Saet Byul said to Rin who was busy reading her comic book which Ma Roo gave to her so he could become her manager, in fact he bribed her. "Rin, don't ignore me. I know you hearing me." Saet Byul complained. Rin covered her book slowly and looked at Saet Byul. "How many times did I explain and you also ignored me. If you want an explanation, try and recall what I told you. Ma Roo is making dinner, join us." She said with a smile. "That was creepy. U didn't notice that I was so bad to her." Saet Byul thought in her head.
At the dining everyone was silent, Ma Roo was unaware of what had just not sure of what had happened because he had gone grocery shopping. "Hey, how is my food!" Ma Roo asked to end awkward the awkward silence. "It is awful!" Saet Byul and Rin said at the same time. "Heartless!" Ma Roo thought it was quite good since it was the first time for him to make food which was not noodles, he even bought Korean beef. "Such a waste of money!" he thought. "At least the meat is tasty, thank you!" Rin said not to make Ma Roo feel so down.
After edible but tasteless meal, Ma Roo went to wash the dishes, Rin went to read her book and Saet Byul was busy with her phone. Ma Roo finally finished washing the dishes, he was so tired because he barely got any rest today. "Ah! I am so tired!" He yawned and walked to the living room where he found Rin and Saet Byul, "Hey, you two lazy things!" Ma Roo shouted seeing that the two were doing nothing yet he was so tired.
"Why are you shouting? Can't you speak normally? I am busy right now, please let me concentrate." Saet Byul complained. "I can't believe that this kiddo is a 7-year-old. She even drops the honorifics." Ma Roo mumbled to himself. Rin was silently reading her comic book as if she was deaf. "Rin, am going to bed but you've got to teach your friend some manners." Ma Roo felt frustrated and decided to leave the two. "Good night!" Rin said to Ma Roo. Not long after Ma Roo had left Rin also stood up to go in her room and Saet Byul also followed behind her.
In the room the two sat at bed without saying a word, Saet Byul put her phone beside the bed and Rin also covered the book she was reading and put it in beside the bed. "Um." The two said at the same time. "You go first." They again said at the same time. After a few seconds of silence, "I am sorry!" They said at the same time again. "hahahaha!" They both laughed seeing that they spoke the same things at the same time. That night, things didn't go badly for the two friends.
"What else can you do apart from changing eye colours?" Saet Byul asked curiously. "Oh, am not so sure since I had a power brake on for 10 years but what I know I can do much more, like whenever am in a bad mood bad things happen that's why I always try to be in a good mood and I also heal immediately." She explained honestly. "Wow! Rin, I'll like to give a friendly warning. It's a good thing that I am the one who found out about your secret or else if it was someone else, they'd have used you by making you a lab rat. So it'd be good if you didn't tell anyone else and live normally. "Saet Byul advised Rin considerately.
"Uh, thank you for the advice but what is a lab rat." Saet Byul wasn't so good at explaining, so she just grabbed her phone and looked up the web and showed to Rin what was done to lab rats. "That's what will happen to you, they might even end up telling you to direct you where your other mermaids are." Saet Byul tried to make things clearer for Rin. Rin was scared by what she had seen. "I don't want to be a lab rat." Rin said sadly. "Then keep it to yourself." Saet Byul said. "Ok, let's leave the chit chatting and sleep. Tomorrow is also another day." Saet Byul said as she covered herself with the blanket. Rin turned off the lights and covered herself. "Good night." They both said at the same time.
Next morning, Ma Roo came out of his room only to find Rin and Saet Byul on the dining table eating breakfast. "Wow, did the sun rise in the west today?" He couldn't believe that the two lazy bodies had made breakfast. "Good morning." They smiled. "Saet Byul, don't you have to go to kindergarten today." He mocked. "Mind you I am in elementary school, today is Sunday and am also home schooled." Saet Byul while eating. He sure couldn't handle the two girls.
After breakfast, Ma Roo was watching TV since he didn't have to didn't have anything to do. The girls were doing the home chores. He was all relaxed as he watched a show. While he was relaxing, he was snapped back to reality by a phone call. He searched from where his phone ringing from. It was in his back pocket. He picked it up. "Hello, this is Kang Ma Roo!" he said. "A job?" He said in utter disbelief.
