Looking at her photo, the back of Li Minghao's mind started to buzz with a strange feeling. A blurry image of a girl similar to the girl in the photo kept appearing on his mind. Pulling a string in his mind he didn't know he had.
Once he grasped the faint image of that girl in his mind, he recalled a faceless girl with a little less poise, careless, and a different type of refreshing youth. Her smile was the only thing he could see clearly.
She was nothing similar to the girl in the photo yet... the same.
Perhaps the resemblance was in that youthful smile.
But... who was the faceless girl?
Right at that moment, Chief Li Yang cleared his throat causing him to lose his train of thought.
"She's the one targeted this year."
Blinking, Li Minghao glanced at his grandpa, putting his thoughts away. He will think about it later!
"Who's in charge of her case?"
"Hahaha!¨
Chief Li Yang heartily smiled, shaking his head at his grandson.
As talented and smart as Li Minghao was, he still had a long way to go! Li Minghao wasn't completely immune to rookie mistakes. He still occasionally commited them!
"That is not something I can tell you. However, if you read close enough... you should find out for yourself." Chief softly tapped his head with his finger.
"Don't focus on details so much. Try to look at the big picture."
Complying, Li Minghao went back to the files and swept away any intrusive thoughts. Clearing his mind in the process. He calmly read through this young girl's life.
The file only had her general information available to the police. When and where she was born, who was her family, and what she did in life. Nothing too profound or detailed about the young girl's life.
However, once Li Minghao read who was her family, he instantly made the connections.
Chen Family.
The Chen family was known for its dedication to serving the country as military officers. However, after a long line of military leaders, after General Chen Mo's great contributions, his son, Chen Dao, who had trained all his life to follow his footsteps... ran away to become a chef thus breaking the tradition.
During his time away from home, he also met his future partner Xu LinFei.
Xu LinFei was a rising beauty in the modeling industry. A beautiful pearl. If she wanted to, she could get into acting! However, she never intended to make any of it her career.
All she wanted to do was design fashion collections. She wanted to have her own brand!
So, as they fought their way to the top in their own fields, Xu LinFei and Chen Dao married and had a baby.
And with the arrival of the first grandchild, General Chen Mo reached out to his son and somewhat mended their stranged relationship.
This was something Li Minghao already knew about her, or in other words, about the Chen Family.
Knowing whose family she belonged to, Li Minghao's question was automatically answered.
Who was in charge of her case?
Of course, it was General Chen Mo!
He was the one who made sure all the details regarding the safety and location of Chen Jingyun were unknown to everyone. He was also the one who led the investigation against the criminal organization. If he wanted to, he could also be the one to personally bodyguard Chen Jingyun!
Li Minghao concluded it was because he didn't trust anyone to protect his granddaughter's life any better than he himself.
However... to get a complete hold of such an important case, General Chen Mo must have had to pay some sort of price.
But that was not something he should tap into.
But he could...
Moving on.
Why was Chen Jingyun the chosen target?
From what he had heard, as the first grandchild to General Chen Mo, Chen Jingyun received love from every crook and corner. Along with that love, care and expectations were poured into her. From a very young she was educated to become nothing less of a prodigy child.
Even if she wasn't born a male, General Chen Mo trained her as the future family head. He steered her on the path of military excellence. She was the pride of the Chen Family.
A young girl with excellent academic skills who also showed high athletic performance. Obviously, the apple of General Chen Mo's eyes.
She certainly didn't disappoint.
As for her parents, they provided much love and support. They spoiled her very much and treated the girl as a princess. Nothing much was expected from her.
Traveling in between these two very different households, the little girl went on to become a teenage girl and enter high school. Her future looked very bright. She was the first in her year, she competed in all kinds of activities, and won medals.
Since she was such an excellent girl... what had gone wrong to the point someone would want her killed?
