I could hear Kaz and Carlos from the other room. Their words were hard to make out but I'm fairly positive that they're talking about me. I want to go in after them but the glare she gave me when she held my shirt was one I've seen only once before. Back when I had first found her and forced her to come with me.
"Maybe I am a shit person." I run my hand through my hair and sigh.
"Oh no doubt about that. You definitely are," I turn around and meet Carlos' gaze. He was sitting on the couch flipping through channels like he had been there the whole time. "But that doesn't mean you have to be a shit person forever."
"You know, a lot of people died because they did exactly what you just you did." I say bluntly, expecting a reaction from him but he continues to watch television without so much as a glance my way.
"You know, Kaz kills people who do what you did." He made sure to emphasizes every word, implying that Kaz wouldn't be over this anytime soon. Great.
"You don't get to be upset with anyone. That's a luxury even you can't afford. I warn you time and time again that she won't put up with your childish behavior anymore." He finally looks away from the tv and stares at me. "You're her husband and the father of her children, it's time you start acting like it."
"Like I need a lecture from a fucking drunk who can't even decide what bitch he wants to fuck in the morning."
He sucks his teeth and stands from the couch. "I won't take your words personally because I know your situation. But we both know this isn't about me."
"Yeah, it's about Kaz and why the hell she would rather be here with you than me!"
"Look at how you're acting, how your yelling and screaming like a crazy person. You think she wants to put up with that while trying to raise your kids?"
He steps closer with his hands balled into fist at his sides and a scowl on his face.
"You are inconsiderate. You're greedy and expect her to act as a lap dog and when she calls you out on it, you just throw out a few lies and expect everything to go back to normal."
He laughs then shakes his head at me. "I dunno man, maybe you just are a shit person."
He riffles around in his pocket and pulls out a small slip of paper and flicks it at me. I manage to snatch it out the air before it hits the ground and unfold it. It was a picture of me holding Kazmaria at the annual meeting were I had proposed to her. She had a large grin on her face as my arms were around her waist and hers around my neck.
"I took that right after she said yes to you."
I stare at the picture and feel myself start to smile. "I was so scared she'd say no…" Her grin was so genuine that just looking at her gave me such a warm feeling. "I remember feeling so nervous that I couldn't eat for days…"
I look back up at him, "Why are you showing me this?" What point was he trying to make by handing me this picture?
"Not sure. But you should keep it. Remind yourself that you ask her and that she chose you." He clicks the tv off and stretches. "Her and the boys will be staying here with me for a bit, so go handle whatever it is you gotta handle in Germany. I'll make sure they're alright."
My blood began to boil at his words. Who does he think he is? Telling me to get lost while he plays the role of heroic big brother?
"Thought you had your own business to handle down at the warehouse?" He freezes and looks at me with squinted eyes.
"You messing with my fucking product, Ricky?"
I shrug and darted my eyes around the room before glancing back to him. "You know I don't do things like that anymore, and besides, why would I ever interfere with your life?"
"No me mientas. ¿Qué hiciste?"
(Don't lie to me. What did you do?)
"Like I said before, I couldn't care less about your fucking life. Don't automatically assume that I have a part to play in your missing product just because you don't have any idea who it is." I return his glare. "I'm just here to retrieve my wife and kids, so you can run along now."
"She wants nothing to do with you right now. So I suggest that you get the fuck outta here before-"
"Before what? You gonna make me?" Adrenaline begins to course through my viens. I had been itching for a good fight and if this keeps up, I just might get one.
"Oh no Ricky. I'm not gonna make you do a damn thing, I know that much." He tilts his head to the side and looks over my shoulder. "But I'm sure she definitely will."
I don't have to turn around to know that he's not just bluffing. I can feel her eyes on the back of my head and it makes me not want to turn around.
"Well, I'll leave it up to you hermana." He gives me a cocky grin and waves. "Adiós, jackass."
As he leaves, the rush of excitement I felt before does as well. It was quickly replaced with dread and terror. I just know that she's gonna kill me.
"Ricky, what did I just talk to you about?" Her voice was stern but she wasn't yelling. Shit. That meant that she was so pissed she was calm. "I thought that we agreed that you would start acting your age."
I remained silent as her footsteps got closer behind me. I refused to turn around, so I stood there, staring at the wall in front of me.
"Ricardo, honey. Please turn around. I'd like to talk to your face, not your back."
Fuck fuck fuck. This is not good. This is not good at all! I slowly turn to face her and all the blood drains form my face when I finally see her. She was beyond upset. Her eyes were deadly. One wrong move and she'd definitely take off my head faster than I can blink.
"Me and you are going to have a little talk, okay?" She smiled at me but nothing about it was friendly. It was a smile that you'd see on a serial killer right before they butcher you like a pig.
"I-" I wanted to tell her sorry and that I'd go apologize to Carlos but her gaze alone made me shit my mouth. God this woman could honestly be so horrifying.
"You have about half a second before I completely lose it, so to keep myself from murdering you, please, give me one solid reason why I shouldn't."
"…I uh…I love you?" Shit. Today is the day I die.
She nods her head and purses her lips. "You should start running now."
