Three days prior to the christening of Beryl, Phyllis was asked to move to her parents house so that they would be able to prepare and advise her on motherhood and parenthood at large. When Denzel and Phyllis got to the Mensah's house, they were surprised to see the Jones and Richards in there as well. They all seemed very happy and cunning as well. Why are they all here? And why didn't they even inform us that they were having a gathering here? They were puzzled about what the gathering was about. They all burst into laughter when Denzel and Phyllis walked into the hall because, they noticed the confusion on their faces.
They were both welcomed by Mr. Mensah as he asked them to join their gathering with smiles. He asked them the purpose of their visiting and they both laughed out loud together because they also wanted to know what the gathering was about but Mr. Richards sarcastically told them that, they were in his house and therefore had the right to ask them their purpose of being in his but they cannot ask him what he is doing in his own house. They both nodded in agreement and Denzel told him that Phyllis wanted to come home because she misses her parents. Mr. Richards burst into laughter saying, " don't think you're smarter than your father because you have grey hair now." They all burst into laughter and he hugged his daughter and welcomed her home.
Mr. Mensah asked his wife and daughter to be excused so that they could have a discussion and Mr. Jones also called his wife and son to also join him in the lobby as the Richards were left in the living room. Both parents had a discussion with their children to know if they're ready to settle down with each other and their reasons for making any decisions they have made. Both of them said yes to being ready to settling down with each other and their reasons were that they loved each other and were also ready to help build each other and a family together. They all joined the Richards in the hall after fifteen minutes to continue with the discussions.
Mr. Mensah, Mr. Jones and Mr. Richards walked out together to deliberate on their children's future. Mr. Jones and Mr. Mensah agreed that they go on with the wedding but Mr. Jones requested that they inform them about the wedding preparations so that they would psych themselves and prepare for the wedding and marriage in general. They joined the other people in the living room and asked for everyone's attention. Mr. Mensah asked Denzel and Phyllis to sit together so that, the family gathered there will share a good news with them.
Mr. Mensah informed them that, the Richards have planned and organised their wedding and it's scheduled for the day of Beryl's christening if they both agree to the arrangements. They asked to be excused so that they would deliberate on it.
"Are you ready for a wedding and marriage because this means that you are going to spend the rest of your life with me and my weaknesses as well as my strengths and probably I will make mistakes that will hurt you in the future. Are you sure you are ready for this? Denzel asked her.
" I think we have been through a lot of things for me to back out now. What's the worst thing you could do to me, if it isn't cheating on me with another woman? Haven't you already done that to me? I know i haven't seen all of you yet and it's not even possible that i would know you fully even unto death. So yeah, I am ready to spend the rest of my life with you. Are you also ready to spend the rest of your life with me?
He smiled at her with a feeling of light in his eyes and said "I wouldn't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. I know time reveals who a person really is but I'm sure that time will only reveal the best in you. I am also very sure that you'll make mistakes but I'm still ready to grow old with you. I love you dearly, Phyl. " He hugged and kissed her when he finished talking.
They walked hand in hand to the living room with Phyllis being all smiles. Denzel first thanked the family gathered which included the Richards for their concern and support for their lives. He told them they appreciated their gesture and that, they would love to be married on that day. All the families gathered there were very happy at their response especially the Mensahs because, marriage is seen to be an honour to a woman and her family. Amelia hugged both of them and congratulated them for their decision. The elders also rose up to give them a handshake as a way of congratulating them.
Amelia then, went on to give everyone the outline for the the three programs which were the christening, traditional marriage and the white wedding. They were all impressed with the arrangements and they both couldn't hide their joy. Mrs. Mensah served lunch and invited everyone available to the dining table to eat. They all joined the table to eat together. Mr. Mensah told Denzel and Phyllis that, they would be taking them through marriage counselling after their wedding so that they would enjoy their marriage. They both nodded in agreement and thanked him for the concern and care. The Richards and Jones left for their house after lunch but Denzel stayed with the Mensahs for a while before he went back home. He was very grateful to everyone of them and was proud of having them in his life. He just couldn't wait for the D-day because he had become restless and had developed a cold feet.
When every one had left, Mr. and Mrs. Mensah also left for town to purchase their attire and accessories for the program. Mrs Mensah couldn't wait for that day, she was even happier than the couple to be. As Phyllis was seated comfortably on the sofa, Denzel knelt down at her blind side and when she turned to look back at him, she jumped up in excitement and shock because he was kneeling down with an engagement ring. She couldn't even wait for him to even propose to her before she said yes. Denzel burst out into laughter because she was so funny and so sincere.
"I initially thought our parents have ruined my plans because I had purposed to propose to you during the christening but upon further thoughts, I just realised that they had brought my plans to perfection. I love you baby." He smiled but with tears in his eyes because he loved her so much and couldn't wait to marry her and build their lives together. He was so grateful for the blessing that day brought into his life. Phyllis couldn't stop admiring the ring not only because it was beautiful but because she never thought a good man would ever commit to her. She just couldn't believe that she was getting married but if anything she's learned from her experiences that, Life is unpredictable.
