Rainbow clawed at her head with her nails. There was no way that she wouldn't talk to Gary again. She liked the feeling of rebelling against Barry's orders. But then again he was the Sheffield. Her mum would kill her if she ever found out that she'd met up with the Sheffield and become friends of all things. She paced back and forth in her room, pulling at her hair and crying. Maybe she would have to listen to Barry for once, lie low. He had been extremely mad about her 'stepping out of line' earlier and she didn't want to be hurt again. Maybe the simplest thing was to just follow orders for once. Hide out and wait out the drama that unfolds from Gary and Barry's competition of who was most manly. Why did guys have to measure up all the time? Her mind whirrled with millions of questions, making her dizzy. She stumbled on her feet, squeezing her eyes closed. The voices were up in arms. They wanted her to kill them both. That would solve things.
But she couldn't do that, Dimond was constantly reminding her that one slip up, one mistake, would send her to jail for magic use and she would probably be killed in front of all the towns members. Her mother would be there in the audience scowling at her. Her face would just say 'I can't believe you're the next Aimes' and 'you're a disgrace to your family name'. That would be the last thing that she saw before her head was cut off, or she was burnt alive or some other horrific thing. Her mother had told her stories about those sorts of things happening to previous Aimes's, simply for trying to get by, in their society. The Sheffield's were horrific murderers without guilt or remorse and definitely without mercy. That was why she had to kill Gary first. She had to kill him before she ended up like the others.
Rainbow took a deep breath to calm herself, she pulled her hands back and her blurry sight tried to focus on her acrylic nails in front of her. She was a complete mess. Suddenly, a wave of anger washed over her. How could she get these stupid nails off? What had she been doing wasting time with Dimond and Linda like that? They probably didn't want her there anyway. She grit her teeth, staring at the nails, loosely aware of the flow of magic rising up to her fingertips. Maybe if she got her nails to burn again like before, the acrylic nails would come off. She lit her fingertips with magic, hoping that it wouldn't backfire like it usually did. Her fingernails started to burn, a glowing rainbow light emitting form them. The acrylic nails started to peel away at the sides, revealing her own ones underneath. Rainbow continued to build up a massive amount of magic, drawing it to her nails. It started to burn badly and she started to realise that it was becoming uncontrollable. Without a spell to control and direct the magic that was being built up at her fingers, it was threatening to escape in a big uncontrollable blast. She winced, trying to hold on to the power as it threatened to blow. Dimond would kill her if she caused a blast that massive, not to mention the attention it would bring running to their dorm room. The acrylic nails melted on the ground, she tried to slow the magic and redistribute it around her body but that only succeeding in drawing more magic to various points in her body. A scream threatened to release itself. Her body was burning but she had to remain quiet and try to calm down.
But why couldn't she just release all the power?
It would be so simple.
She could send the Sheffield a message with it.
They were in her mind again convincing her that this was an alternate option. That she could blow stuff up and that it wouldn't matter. Why was she scared of the very system that she had been raised to fight anyway? Why couldn't she just teach Barry a lesson. The magic was breaking through. Her body started to glow and Rainbow whimpered, trying to hold back her screams from the unbearable pain. The light shot out at a place on the wall above the door, scorching it and leaving a massive burn mark there. She gasped weakly, glad that the pain was gone but it was only replaced by exhaustion. Her body flopped to the floor as she stared at the scorch mark. Had she just created a burning spell? Her eyes started to droop closed, against her will. She had to hide the mark.
Dimond was going to kill her…
