Rainbow woke up in her cold bedroom. She shivered under the thin duvet she had. All the other children had to share their bedrooms with the other kids but her mother had purposefully made her stay alone. Rainbow peeled herself out of the slight warmth of the duvet and got changed. She went downstairs and saw Derek leave for his first shift of the day. Starlight was feeding the toddlers who smacked food in her face.
"RAINBOW!" A loud voice hollered. It was her mother's. Kathrine Aimes. She froze and wondered what was wrong. She walked upstairs slowly and hesitantly walked into her mother's bedroom.
It was a deep red colour on the walls and the bed had red drapes that were secured on the bed stand. The carpet was a similar colour to the walls but was a bit darker, it was much softer than any other carpet in the house. This was where her mother worked.
Cautiously, Rainbow made her way over to her mother, who was dressed in her red robe. She had used her magic to make herself a more normal weight and to hide her pregnant stomach. She looked quite beautiful in her work form. Kathrine spun around quickly and glared at Rainbow.
"I heard that someone went out yesterday and almost got caught using her magic." She stated, her voice unusually calm, making Rainbow tense further. The shouting was fine but the quiet and calm was when she got worried. She stared at her small feet as her toes curled. "WELL?!" Her mother demanded quickly.
"I was just practicing, I didn't know he was there!" Rainbow pleaded with her. Trying to show that she wasn't scared, even though she was shaking.
Her mother simply hummed in response and lifted Rainbow's chin with her forefinger, glaring into her scared eyes. "I'll deal with you later. Just be glad I have a client today." She hissed in Rainbow's ear menacingly. "Now, GET OUT!" She yelled. Rainbow jumped and quickly scurried out of her mother's bedroom.
