Gary ran downstairs and was swiftly stopped by the lavish banquet for lunch. His stomach grumbled and his father came down the stairs behind him.
"I prepared this for your return." He explained. "I propose a truce for lunchtime? You can go back to hating me afterwards." He solemnly requested. Gary nodded as his stomach started to control his brain.
There was silence while they ate and Gary shuffled uncomfortably in his seat. It was so awkward. Both wanted to yell at the other, but neither did.
"Did you actually make any friends at that school?" His father asked, not quite understanding why Gary was so upset.
"Did you ever give a chance?" Gary responded, realising that he hadn't actually befriended anyone there. If only he could have a fresh start at that school... Then he realised a way that he could have a chance... "Since you clearly interfered with my time at St. Kuffberts, could you at least give me a chance at a different school?" He asked his father, turning to look at him.
"Well... there is a school I have in mind..." Jacob agreed, knowing the school he had in mind was a boys reform school.
"No, I want to choose my own school, since I'm the one who's actually going there." Gary argued. His father frowned at his disobedience.
"I raised you wrong. You are supposed to obey your father, especially when he's willing to let you go to another school." He warned, locking eyes with Gary's. Gary gripped his knife slightly tighter.
"Fathers aren't supposed to smother their sons and control every aspect of their life." He responded, a little bit too harshly.
Their argument continued for quite a while as it escalated. The servants and maids glanced at each other nervously as they watched the Sheffields argue.
