I'm a doctor.
I've been a Doctor for as long as I've been around.
" I'm here to help, ma'am y- "
" Let me guess, your here to tell us we are dieing? Why don't you actually try and do something helpful, creep! "
" Ma'am I - "
The wooden door slammed in my face, the kid will die there... the parents will die next, then the neighborhood... then everyone, everyone but me.
It's a lonely existence, telling people they will die... the disease that grips the world is not caring of mortals, but it cannot harm us Immortals... so it makes us miserable.
Especially me.
I have no name, no eyes... dressed all in black, a leather veil hides away my visible feature beyond that, and to accompany it as a large black brimmed hat. It's nothing fancy, purely for purpose and nothing else... complications in the fabric could harbour the off shoot of the illness, and that would be nothing but harm.
Spores, bacteria, insects, crops, water, animals... they all carry the disease. It's not something that should realistically exist... and yet here it is, destroying kingdoms after kingdoms, invisible and destructive. One man could lead to the fall of an entire nation, and none were the wiser of the true threat.
I wander the outlands, any place that isn't walled off is hell on Earth... and any place that is walled of is a prime target for disease. My body croaked and groans and I force my old bones to push above the small hill, to the next house.
Upon arriving, it's unfortunate. They have already been marked, the door frame is decorated in either entrails or some sort of meat... and the inside is hollow and lifeless, windows broken and fabric torn. I fix my mask on and begin procedure.
I search throughout the house, any signs of life were to be feared for any mortal... but I held nothing, the Reaper could be standing before me and I'd fear him no more than a Spore.
The attic, stained with blood and fungi... I must burn this place afterwards.
The basement...
I make my way down to the cramped, cold, and moist space down under the house... blood stained the stairs and markings of some sort of beast lay within, I peered through the dark with my yellow eyes.. and with it I saw a pair of eyes back... then another, and then another.
A family, huh. It's quite unfortunate they have to be in such pain, it's my duty as doctor to help them pass on. I readied my gun, and placed it upon the form's head... the wailing and silence that came shortly after would traumatize any human... it's just wrong for this to happen to any mortal...and I'll keep doing my Job, untill nobody will ever have to do this again.
A sample of the mushrooms, and I burned down the small farm house... the grass was a dead yellow around the now sickly field that surrounded it, that makes 1946 cured.
There is no cure, only death to those that harbor the Disease. Lest they become like the form in the basement at old morray road... unfortunately, that is how it will all be untill all humans die... the Spore cannot be stopped now.
The Spore is eternal, and me?
Likewise.
