Chapter 10 - The wrong day

Kazuma began to get flashbacks to when he first met Victoria. It seemed every time there was a knock on that door something bad happened. Regardless of this, he got up and answered it anyway. When he opened the door he was greeted by two familiar smiling faces, Kiah and Jax. "Hey! you okay" greeted Jax with a smile on his face. Kiah began to laugh. She looked happy. No matter how wrong it seemed, it was nice. To see them both again.

Kazuma invited them both in and Jax placed down a crate of beer. "What's this in aid of?" asked Kazuma. "Your birthday" replied Jax with a smile. Kazuma was stunned, tears welled up in his eyes. He had spent so many years without a true friend that usually on his birthday he would just get a call from his mother and a few extra letters in the post. "Happy birthday!" laughed Kiah, handing Kazuma a present. Kazuma smiled and thanked her. The gift looked small. Kazuma opened it to find a small black box. Upon opening it he found a fob watch. It was shiny silver colour, with a blue butterfly engraved on it. He clicked it open to see a clock. It was beautiful. It had been so long since he had received a present from someone.

"Thank you" said Kazuma with a smile, trying to hold back the tears as he looked at his two best friends sat beside him and smiling back at him. It was a miracle. "Sorry I didn't get you a proper present, but beer is beer isn't it" laughed Jax. "It's fine, just seeing you here is more than enough for me" Kazuma replied. "Anyway Kiah, what made you buy me a fob watch?" Kazuma asked. "Oh well, that bracelet of yours looks cute on a child but a little bit tackles on an adult" she giggled.

The three kicked back and chatted away together. The three of them were together just like old times. "oh yeah, we have something from both of us" said Jax reaching into a bag. He pulled out an old looking machine. It was a playstation 2. He then pulled out a game, Fairy Quest the game. "Oh my god, I can't believe it!" said Kazuma. "Just like old times ay" laughed Jax. Kazuma and Jax both decided that they would have a dual on the old game just like old times.

After hanging out for a while Jax decided to return home and Kiah stay over at Kazuma's place. Kazuma relaxed on the sofa before coming to the realisation that in his old timeline it was nowhere near his birthday. His birthday was in November and the day he went back in time was April. He checked his phone, 22nd April. This was impossible. Saving Kiah shouldn't have altered his birth, unless what Sakura said was true and time really was breaking...

Kazuma needed to tell someone, this was serious. He needed to warn Victoria or at least someone who was involved in the butterfly project. Kazuma decided to go to bed early and Kiah followed. "Thanks" he said. Kiah smiled. "It's okay, I had a great time" said Kiah before the two slowly drifted off.

The next morning Kazuma woke up and instantly got dressed and walked to the town square in hopes of meeting with Sakura. He waited there for ages reflecting on how guilty he felt for not explaining things to Kiah, but what could he have said. He couldn't have just told her she was supposed to be dead.

In the distance Kazuma saw a person. They had a black hoodie with a white hood. "Oh no" Kazuma muttered out loud before running down an alleyway. He could hear footsteps behind him, they were fast. Kazuma found himself in an abandoned office building. He was terrified. Sweat ran down his face. Heart like a drum in his chest. He needed to hide. He went to the third floor and hid under one of the countless office desks. He waited. Waited. He could hear someone moving around. Was it them? all of a sudden he heard a voice. It was distorted, like an echo but also like a radio with bad signal. The voice sounded familiar. "Where are you Kazuma?" it said tormenting him. It seemed to be a woman's voice. It went silent for about a minute until all of a sudden he heard the voice say "found you!" before being quickly silenced by a gunshot and disappearing into thin air. "That was close" said a voice. Kazuma slowly and cautiously arose to see a short male police officer with blue spiky hair. It was the officer from the day before at the butterfly systems wreckage. "Hey, good to see you again, The names Connor" he said holding out his hand. "We need to talk" Connor said sternly grabbing Kazuma's hand and pulling him quickly out of the building.
