Chapter 5 - The Crown Prince

Ms. Winters took Roselyn to another room which was located on the other side of the building where she was held captive. And as far as she had to guess, the building gave her more of an abandoned feeling as if it hadn't been used in ages.

"Here. There's a dress, some toiletries, and there's the washroom. Be as quick as you can and don't even think about running away because I promise you won't like the consequences." The woman threatened Roselyn as she shoved her inside the room.

If not for the fact that those deadly black vines were still loosely circling both her wrists and her ankles, Roselyn had the strong urge to call on her powers and slam the woman across the hallway.

Unfortunately, she wasn't in a state where she could take the risk of offending the future queen of the Shadow Realm. Besides, if what Levine told her was right, then she would be getting the chance to talk to her family in the council's meeting. So she decided to be a little bit more patient.

Collecting the dress and the toiletries, she entered the shower and hurriedly washed herself. It didn't even take her ten minutes before she was done and got dressed into the white evening dress that reached her ankles.

Roselyn couldn't lie that she looked pretty in the dress as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Shaking her head, she hurriedly combed her curls and headed outside.

"My my..." Levine's reaction only affirmed Roselyn's thoughts. "Well, since you are ready, it's time to head to the council headquarters. Hope to never see you again, Lightwood." The woman gave Roselyn a snarky smile before she left the room.

Roselyn remained standing there in the middle of the room in confusion. What now? Was she supposed to go to the headquarters on her own? Or was she supposed to wait in the room for someone?

Letting out a frustrated sigh she stepped forward, checking if the vines would try to stop her but to her surprise, they didn't respond at all. Getting more confident, she closed the distance between herself and the door and opened it to step out.

However, what awaited her was a harsh knock on her forehead that sent her stumbling backward as a sharp and painful cry escaped her lips.

"Are you alright?" Someone was beside her immediately, holding her face in their big and cold palms as they made her look up.

Roselyn found herself looking into another pair of beautiful ice-blue eyes but the man's attention traveled to her forehead as he checked her for any injury. This caused her attention to be pulled toward his long platinum hair that was styled simply and left loose and the blue crown pendant that was sitting on his forehead. He was the Crown Prince.

"I think you are alright. But I'm really sorry for that. I was going to knock on the door..." The man trailed off as he returned his gaze to her eyes and their gazes locked together.

Once again Roselyn felt the familiar energy that transpired between their eyes, the one that she felt with River. It was amber against ice but in a good way.

The feeling was so strong that it almost snatched away her breath and made her knees go weak. She didn't even realize that she was losing her balance until a strong arm circled her waist and stopped her from falling.

"Don't look into my eyes." She heard the man telling her but she was too lost to listen to him or consider what he was trying to tell her.

He too probably realized it because the very next second, he covered her eyes with his free palm while closing his eyes too at the same time.

Everything stopped just as suddenly as it started. The energy was gone and so was the unknown feeling that was trying to take control of her. Roselyn's senses returned to work properly and it made her realize just how little space was left between their bodies.

"Try to avoid looking straight into my eyes, our powers are reacting and calling to each other." The Prince advised her as he finally pulled his palm away from her eyes and let go of her waist before stepping away.

"Why would they call to each other?" Roselyn asked as she tried to look anywhere but at the man. It was a weird feeling, not looking at the person she was talking to.

"Two different powers only call each other either when they are trying to find balance or when... they have found their perfect balance. And the latter only happens when two people have the same level of powers." The question underlying his answer was loud and clear to Roselyn but she decided to ignore it.

"Are you going to take me to the meeting?" She asked while changing the topic. Thankfully, the Crown Prince didn't try to continue their previous topic.

"That's the plan." Prince Felix responded as he stepped closer to her and suddenly pulled her back into his arms.

Roselyn was so surprised by his action that her eyes immediately flew to look at him and their gazes once again collided together, immediately setting the spark between them. Fortunately, or unfortunately, this time it was short-lived as they both hurriedly looked away.

"I'll be teleporting us to the headquarters. Sorry for the inconvenience." The man whispered the apology as he rested his other hand lightly against her waist before teleporting away from the room.

Roselyn felt the familiar feeling of passing through the void for a second or two before everything returned to normal and then she was standing inside the building of Shadow Council's headquarters.

As the Crown Prince once again stepped away from her, she couldn't deny the loss that she felt once again and it only made her curse herself inside her head. The man had a betrothed and no matter how good-looking he was, he was still a Shadow. And she seemed to be getting weak knees every time a shadow man touched her.

The only reason she could think of for her reactions was the bite. It was definitely that bite that had messed up her body and brain. She promised herself to set the stats straight with the Vampire whenever she would get the chance.
