Rosie was in my room telling me to get up and out of bed. It was half seven already. My alarm went off an hour and a half ago, how did I miss that? Five minutes later, I was dressed and I looked at my desk. There was an un-opened lipstick on there. I took it and put it on. I went downstairs and saw that Alex was already there, waiting for me. He looked at me very strangely when I got my bag packed. I got annoyed and asked him what was wrong. "Who are you trying to impress?" He asked with a stupid smile. "Not you." I replied and said goodbye. I walked to school with Alex asking who I liked. It didn't take long for him to work it out when we got to school. We got to school and Charlie was already there. He came over to us and had to push past a group of girls to do it. Alex rolled his eyes and said that he was going to see his mates. So we ended up talking for a while before the bell went. We walked to tutor and we were laughing by the time we were in tutor. "Hey, if you want my advice, keep away from her. She talks to herself all the time." Mickey said. He had known me for most of my school life here. I turned on him and walked away. I heard shouting from behind me and Alex was trying to hold back Charlie from Mickey. I ran over and told Charlie to calm down. I looked at him and he stopped trying to fight. He said sorry to me and went in. People were used to Alex defending me but not other people. I had a few friends and they did defend me even though they knew it was the truth. Alex took my hand and pulled me into the toilets. "Please don't tell me that he's the prince." He said.
"So what if he is? It's not up to who I like. You're not my big brother." I said. I went in and acted like nothing happened. Alex kept his distances all day unless he needed to be near me. I told Charlie about the argument. Well, the part about Alex not liking him. He hugged me and said that he would go away if it upset me. I wanted him to stay. I wanted Alex to stay my best friend too. Was it too much to ask? At the end of the day, Alex didn't wait for me. I walked home with Charlie again and when I got in Rosie said I looked really upset. She asked what was wrong. "I had a fight with the dragon." I said and started to cry on her. I told her what had happened. I told her how Charlie was like me. She knew about my abilities too. She was a really good listener. Rosie asked to see Babe so they could both help me. Us three talked about it and came up with a conclusion. Alex was a robot created to protect me against anything and it had been Cameron that had created him. We told him when he got home and asked how we had found out. I took his hand and he could see Babe too. "Well, maybe you should make time for both of them. And let Alex know where he stands in your life." Cameron said. I would prefer to deal with a robot over the real thing. I said that I would talk to him in the morning and texted him that I had something important to tell him. He agreed to come over. This could end up badly but it was worth it in the end. I went to sleep that night and had a nightmare. I hadn't had it for a while. Half way through year seven, Alex went to America because his parents had been offered a job there. We got a week's notice and then he was gone. Whilst he was away he told his other best friend to look after me. Nicklaus didn't know about my abilities and he was told that he couldn't hold my hand unless I said he could. For about a month I stayed distant from everyone hoping that Alex would come back. After that month I slowly started to hang out with Nick. We became really good friends and I had almost forgotten that Alex had promised he would come back. Half way through year eight we were walking home and Nick pushed me in to the woods by my house. This is where my nightmare began. We were running through the woods and he tried to take my hand. "Come on. Give me your hand and I'll show you something amazing." He said. I told him no and he started to come closer to me with a wired look in his eyes. I started to run but he was faster than me. When I got out of the woods I bumped into someone. It was Alex and he protected me. Only in my nightmare Nick kept coming after me. I couldn't get away from him. I was screaming and Rosie came in to see what was wrong. I told her. That was the day I told her about my abilities. Nick had moved away and no one really knew why. She sat with me until I went back to sleep. I slept for another hour and then got up. I had breakfast and was ready to go by the time Alex knocked on the door. He asked what was wrong whilst I was getting my shoes on. I told him I had the nightmare again. He hugged me tight and said that he was sorry for getting jealous. "That's ok big bro; you don't always have to protect me." I said in a cute little sister voice. He laughed and we went to school together. It was fun. Charlie came over and Alex didn't go away this time. The day went fine and so did the rest of the week. The next week went great to. They still got jealous of each other and tried to outdo the other all the time.
It was going great like I said until that Saturday. We were all planning to go out somewhere. I was waiting for the boys by the woods. I couldn't hear anyone come up from behind me but they did. They wrapped their arms around my waist. "Hey cutie, how long has it been?" They said in my ear. I put my hands straight into my pockets. Only one person called me that, Nick. "Nicklaus." I whispered under my breath, just loud enough for him to hear it. "You got it in one guess. How are you?" He asked. His hand was going down my arm trying to find my hand. I was trying to get free. I hated him. I was wishing for Alex to hurry up, and for Charlie to get here soon. "Stop trying to get away. Why did Alex warn me about touching your hand?" He whispered in my ear, making me shiver. I tried to pull away. He had got a lot stronger though. His hand was on my wrist. I breathed in and out to calm myself. "What do you want?" I asked in the calmest voice I could use. "Let me hold your hand, just once and then I'll disappear forever." He said. In my head I was shouting for Charlie. Its ok, I'm right around the corner. Just one more minute and you'll be in my arms. I heard a voice in my head say. It sounded just like Charlie. I looked at the corner and Charlie came around it. He was calm and holding a gun. It had an owl design on it and he held it up, pointing it at Nick. Nick let go of me and ran away saying he wasn't going to go away now. I looked at Charlie waiting for an answer. He let go of the gun and it vanished. Fire was there instead. Charlie walked over to me and I backed away. Alex saw us and ran over. He looked at the fear in my eyes and took my hand. He stood next to me, ready to fight. "Where did you get that gun from?" I asked. It surprised Alex but he was angry now.
"I can't say here, and especially not in front of him." Charlie replied. "Fine we can go back to mine. Alex go home." I said. I wanted answers before anything else at the moment. I let go of Alex's hand and started to walk away with Charlie following me. "No wait. You just said he has a gun and now you want to be alone with him. Are you crazy?" Alex shouted behind me. "Reece, Reece, Reeeeeece." Alex shouted again. I wouldn't turn around because if I did, then I would run back to him. I would tell him I was scared and I didn't know what to do. I would cry on his shoulder like I always did. But I couldn't always do that. My power made me afraid and it made me loss friends. When we got back to my house I went in and went up to my room, followed by Charlie. Our spirit animals were out and looking nerves. "What do you want me to explain first?" He asked and sat down on the floor. I sat down opposite him. "Was that you in my head?" I asked. I was becoming less and less cretin about finding out answers. "Yes. It's something that spirit talkers and spirit animals share."
"What are spirit talkers?"
"It's what people call us. We can talk to each other telepathically. We can talk to our own spirit animals that way too. That gun I was holding was Fire in his weapon form. Babe has a weapon form too." Charlie answered. Spirit talkers. Who had came up with that name? Wait, Babe has a weapon form. She could transform into a weapon. "The weapon is based on the spirit talker and their zodiac sign. You were born in February, right so you could be air or water. But you were born on the 14th so your air." Charlie explained. He said he was born on November 23rd so his element was fire. That's why Fire could control fire. He also said that were my and Babe's abilities have shown their selves yet, it must mean that something really bad could happen. That's how other spirit talkers get their abilities. "They get put in a situation where they can only rely on their spirit animals and so their abilities take form. It's how everyone at the school I went to get them." Charlie said. He also explained that he went to a school that had a whole class dedicated to spirit talkers. They learned to control and master their abilities as a team. Only it's also the same school that got burned to the ground with most of the science teachers still in there. They all died. I asked Charlie about it and he said that he started the fire. I was shocked and realising it was a good job that Alex wasn't here. He told me how the science teachers were actually scientists studying them. The head teacher didn't know and his daughter was a spirit talker. She was the first one to go missing and then return a month or so later with no memory of what happened, but she was badly hurt and beaten up. "They went after everyone in that class, over the curse of twelve months. When it got to me, it was after school. I already had my abilities and I fought back. I burned the school down with them in it." He finished. "I understand if you never want to talk to me again." He said and got up. He was about to walk out of the door when I got up and hugged him. "Stay, please. I don't want you to leave. I want you to help me be strong like you and stay with me." I replied. I buried my head in his back and held on to him tight. He turned around and lifted my head off his back. He took his hand off the handle and hugged me back. He promised he would never let me be as scared as he was when it happened. He promised I would never be scared again. We stood there hugging each other for ages. We had moved to laying on my bed. He had his arms around my waist and I was holding on to his waist too. My face was buried in his chest and I was really comfy. I heard the door been knocked and Rosie answering it. I heard footsteps coming up and I heard Alex ask if he could come in. I didn't say anything I was just thinking go away. I didn't want to move from where I was. Please, can you tell him to go away? I'm too comfy. I said to Charlie telepathically. He said it and Alex came in. He took one look at us and pulled us apart. He told Charlie to go and I nodded my head. "Don't say anything about what we talked about ok, princess." Charlie said and went out. Alex looked at me angry and confused. He started to shout at me. He said that I was stupid and wanted to know what we had talked about. "When did he start calling you princess?" He asked. "What were you two doing? What can't I know? Answer me Reece." He shouted and hit the desk with his hand. I sat on my bed with my head buried in my knees. I felt sad, but then this overwhelming feeling of anger came over me. "Get out. I hate you. You're just jealous because I found someone like me. I don't have to hold his hand all the time for him to know I'm not talking to myself. I don't need to tell you anything. It's none of you business so just get lost." I shouted back at him. "Reece you're playing a dangerous game here and I'm trying to protect you against people like that." Alex argued back. I pushed past him and ran out. I knew where Charlie would be. I ran to his house. Babe was running next to me, telling me to calm down and take it slow. I knocked on Charlie's door and he answered. He let me in straight away and we went up to his room. I cried on him because of what Alex had done. I just wanted Alex to see that Charlie wasn't a threat. That it was his own fault for getting so worked up about nothing. Charlie took my face and wiped away the tears. He looked at me and leant down to kiss me. I didn't pull away. I stayed there. The kiss was amazing. He let go of my face and wrapped his arms around my waist holding me tight as if he would never let me go. He did though. He looked at me waiting for me to say something. All I could say was that was amazing. He asked me a question that I had never been asked before. "Would you like to be my girlfriend?"
"Yes." I said and he kissed me again. I had never had a boyfriend before. Sometimes me and Alex would joke about it but that was a joke. I stayed around Charlie's for about three hours whilst he taught me how to communicate with Babe without speaking. He also said that Babe was at the age where they could appear by themselves. This was going to be a lot of fun now. She could appear at any moment without warning. I was going to look really crazy. At least I could talk to her telepathically now. That way I wouldn't look really crazy. When I got back home I told Rosie that I had a boyfriend. She smiled and hugged me. When Cameron got in I told him too. He said that if he hurt me in anyway then he would pay. "Does Alex know?" Rosie asked. I looked down at me plate. He would of been the first to know if it was someone different. But it was Charlie. To be honest, it was Alex's fault that we got together in the first place. Rosie said my name and I looked at her. She knew about the argument. "He'll find out on Monday." I replied. Sunday was a day of doing nothing. I went around Charlie's house and we watched a film whilst curled up on the sofa. And that's all we did.
