"What's with the sigh Rim-rim?" Ian asked curiously as I talked to him on the phone. I called him during my break-time. I feel stuffed, so I want to talk to someone, at least I can vent to.
"Nothing. Are you going home early?" I asked as I avoided his question.
"Yeah. I guess so. What would you like for dinner?" Ian is a good cook. He can cook like a professional chef. He developed it as one of his hobbies. It was of course his dream to become a working housewife.
"Please grant me to taste your tastiest invention." I seductively said. We often play like this. Those who listen unintentionally would think that I am talking to my lover.
"If I don't know you well... anyway, tell me about it later. And I will cook delicious food for you." Ian said. He is very considerate of me which I'm grateful for. I never thought I would find a great friend on him.
"How sweet of you. You're the best Ian! See you later!" I said happily. Adding with a smooching sound like "Mwah!" He laughed on the other side of the phone with matching "Ewww."
I ended the call and turn around to go back to the office, but I was startled to see the person in front of me.
"Kabjagi!" It was a Korean word meaning "Oh my gosh"
A vein almost popped out my head as I saw how he pretended to be shocked too. I greeted my teeth, almost uttering the word bastard.
"Sir. What can I do to help you?" I asked the man whom I ate lunch with.
"I was about to but it seemed that you are busy," he said, intently gazing his eyes on me.
"Oh no. I'm just about to go back to the office since break-time is almost over. Is there anything I can be at your service?" I asked formally as I explain my circumstances maintaining my professional attitude towards my new superior.
"Yes. If it is possible," he said as he moves a step closer to me. He looks like a predator looking at his prey. I instinctually step backward. I sigh in relief when he stopped but I belatedly realize that I was already cornered on the wall.
He smiled, looking satisfied with his action. He seemed to enjoy how his presence affected me. It was just the 3rd time since I met him aside from the random messages, he sent me almost every single day. I am not sure why he is coming strong in my presence. Is he feeling closer to me because of our siblings? Or our nationality? But all I know is, for sure, I became wary of him the moment he stepped foot on the company and saw his handsome face. I feel a tug in my heart making me somehow afraid that this person caused me a sense of vague familiarity.
I stepped aside trying to distance myself with him, but he quickly put his hand on the wall imprisoning me. My eyes quivered but trying to hide. He looked at me seriously.
"S-sir?" I reluctantly asked. I wonder what he was thinking.
He stepped back putting a decent distance between us as if he suddenly awakened.
"My apologies." he bowed a little showing as if his remorse. "Anyway, I would like to invite you to be my date at the Annual Ball Event in this company."
"...?" Why me? To say, I was surprised by his invitation. Not all of us are invited to join the Annual Ball Event. Only selected people who were invited to attend, and I was one of them as each department has two representatives to join. We are allowed to bring a plus 1 as I intend to invite Ian as my date.
"I'm sorry to decline your invitation Sir but I will be attending with someone already on that day," I explained. He looked sad for a brief second before wiping it out.
"Is that so? I thought I could invite you but maybe, it was not just my luck." I feel a stab on my conscience. Come to think of it, even though he is my superior but I should help him somehow. As a fellow citizen who worked at the same company but on second thought, he is established business personnel known not just in our country but also here abroad. He is capable to handle on his own right?
"I will leave you be then." and bid goodbye. I also went back to my office continuing my work. Thankfully, I finished earlier. I looked at the clock and it was a minute before it strikes to 5:30 in the afternoon. I am glad I won't work overtime today. Satisfied, I turned off my computer and readied myself to go out when I heard a knock on the door.
"Miss Dianne, is there anything I can do for you?"
"Yes. I hate to say this but for the meantime, you will be an acting secretary of Mr. Hyung-woo." and for the last time today, my mouth fell agape of the sudden news. Is it today a surprise day?
