Chapter 32 - The Wall

"What do you think so far?" Spring-Autumn asked. He carried Rainmist in his arms and jumped around the city to see what was going on.

"The people no longer trust the government," Rainmist thought and said. "They believe the government is unable to protect them so their trust has gone to the [Users] that a present."

They stood on top of a building. Spring-Autumn transformed his cloak into a shield to protect them from the wind. They were observing the wall that was densely protected by a huge number of [Users].

The wall was a mixture of grey and brown in color. The texture was even and smooth; it was raised to the level of a skyscraper.

It was hard to imagine how the wall was created. There were a number of people on the wall that reached by climbing a rope. To be able to climb such a long distance demonstrated the amount of strength these people had reached.

At the bottom of the wall were an even larger number of people. This group also consisted of the military.

"You can see it in how they are behaving. Those who are [Users] are revered and have a higher position. Meanwhile, the military people are suppressed by this. Of course, the military also has their fair share of [Users] but I would assume they to be a lot weaker.

In the long run, the military would not be able to provide the benefits that the Primo Corp. are giving and their share of [Users] would defect.

The military is not doing anything about this because their most important goal as of now is survival. However, this tension would eventually break out. Most likely when there is less of a threat from the monsters." Rainmist calmly analyzed.

"This type of dynamic has further affected the people who are living in the city. As I've said before, they no longer have faith in the government. They think that the things produced and distributed by the government are of little value. This is especially the case with money. They are spending it with little to no hesitation because it's practically toilet paper. The new currency as of now is food." Rainmist continued her analysis.

Her insight was valuable for Spring-Autumn. She had her fair share of experience in the world. Although Spring-Autumn had already established opinions of his own, it was important to listen sometimes.

They continued to observe the people on the wall. Earlier, Spring-Autumn deemed them to be idiots from the way they climbed up the wall and how they handled themself.

All of them were capable of climbing up the wall but that does mean they could do it well. Most of them would start swinging to bring their body up and the rope would swing with them. With a rope so tall that it could hang from the wall all the way to the floor, one could imagine the length of such a thing. When a rope that long swung, it was not the most ideal to be climbing.

As such, climbers of the rope would have expressions of pure fear on their face. That was understandable as they would turn into human pancakes if they were to fall.

Spring-Autumn thought they were such idiots because they were able to raise such a huge wall up, but unable to create a more efficient method of climbing.

At this moment, the question as to why these people had to be on top of the wall was answered.

Screee!!

A huge bird flew down from the clouds. It was black in color and somewhat resembled a crow. The major difference was that it had a third eye on its forehead.

Immediately, all the wall people gathered with their abilities. Various flashes of light began to gather.

Fire, water, wind. They seem to be the most common abilities as everyone on the wall had one of the abilities.

When tens of people gather their power, the problem of individual ability was no longer significant. It did not matter that the fire they could produce was the size of a leaf when there were tens of others doing the same thing.

The small wisps of fire gathered in the air and merged into one big fireball.

The same thing happened to the other elements. A huge water ball appeared. And next, a ball of wind.

As soon as one shot out, the [Users] would begin making the next one.

The mutated bird dodged these attacks easily but they were relentless. Eventually, one of the balls hit. And the next one. And the next.

Soon, the bird dropped down from the air. The air ability users gathered and formed a platform of wind and slowly lowered the dead bird down.

"Power in numbers, huh," Spring-Autumn watched this commotion with an interested look.

Every time the bird was hit, it sounded like a firework went off.

"What do you think?" Spring-Autumn asked Rainmist who observed the scene with him.

"It's a system that works. Only problem is the way they're getting up…" Rainmist looked severely disappointed when she recalled the scene where these [Users] swung around with the rope crazily.

"I will get some mutated meat later. Let's go back." Spring-Autumn said.

Back at the wall, everyone celebrated at their gains. It was always a moment that would bring them a rush of joy when they exterminated a beast.

A bonus was that the size of these mutated animals were huge. It was enough to feed several dozen people and they would be able to hunt a few everyday. They were also getting stronger every time they ate one. It was as if the future was becoming brighter.

One day, humans would be back at the top of the food chain! That was a thought every [User] at the wall shared.
