Chapter 25 - Told you

"Almost have it. I can feel it."

Phoenicia said to herself as she ran through the slums of the town.

"Not so fast Phoenicia!"

Tim yelled as he and Emers dropped out of the sky.

Phoenicia tried to run, but they were ready this time.

Tim let out a shock wave which slowed anyone nearby.

Emers erected a wall of green crystal that surrounded them, blocking Phoenicia from running away or blasting through more buildings.

Then using the previous slow effect, they landed safely on the ground.

Tim and Emers then touched a symbol on some bracelets, supplied by Tim's pouch, and returned to normal speed.

"What..."

Phoenicia finally let out from her slowed state.

She already started to cast a spell but it was taking too long due to the slowing effect.

"Don't underestimate her, she's gotten out of worse before."

Emers reminded Tim as they circled around Phoenicia.

"Oh, ye of little faith. Can you not relax. Do you really think I'm gonna let her get away like some..." He paused looking for a proper analogy. "Member of an incompetent guardsmen duo!"

"Do you think she's going to dance around us like a ballet recital and swoosh elegantly after her prize?" He said, gesturing to exaggerate his sarcasm.

"Yes, that's exactly what's going to happen," Emers replied in a deadpan voice.

"I don't know how, or what will give us away. But it will happen." He said with the severity of a soldier going to die.

"Oh, don't be so dramatic... That's my thing. Don't do my thing."

"...the..."

Peonicia said the second word slowly.

The three of them were all readying spells now.

The duo circling their target with the caution one would use against a wild animal.

Nothing mattered.

Not the town, not the clan, and not even the person that caused this, Grant.

All that mattered was within the confines of that crystal wall.

The two of them slowly closing the circle, their robes brushing across the ground as they did so.

Waiting for a moment to strike.

Then it happened.

Tim let out a beam that sounded like a dying theremin. It's scream signaling the end for many.

With inhuman reaction speed, Phoenicia bent over and dodged the beam the best she could. The beam lanced through her worn robes and blood spurted out.

Immediately after, she lept into the air.

The beam that Tim fired bounced off the crystal wall. The beam then ricocheted off another portion before firing directly towards where Phoenicia once stood.

Phoenicia started twisting her body in midair, narrowing herself.

Emers launched a spiral of wind at her, seeing as she was moving too slowly to dodge.

She didn't need to. Phoenicia's narrow form slipped through the spiral and avoided the attack.

"F***!"

Tim yelled as he scrambled to form another spell while maintaining the slowing effect.

Emers already had a second spell prepared.

A circle of gravity appeared around Phoenicia. Unfortunately, she was still in the air and couldn't dodge this time.

Emers slammed Phoenicia into the floor ruthlessly.

Phoenicia bounced once before staying down. Due to the slowing effect, you could see the breath getting knocked out of her.

"Ha, got he-ah!"

Tim screamed as he was cut off by his own beam, releasing the slowing effect.

"F***!"

Phoenicia finally finished her sentence with elation. She grew a nasty smile and proceeded to roll towards Emers.

Emers let out a gush of water towards her and froze it all with a gesture, trapping her left shoulder in ice.

He spammed this trick until she was frozen by several inches at every angle.

Finally seeing this, he collapsed to his knees and started gasping heavily. He could feel his body and foundation screaming in pain from over-exertion.

"Emers!"

Tim ran towards him with one hand healing his injured section.

"Are you okay! Here I have a potion."

He said as he reached into his pouch with his free hand.

"No!"

Emers yelled through fear and frantic breaths.

"Use... The... Slowing... effect... As hard as chu can make it!"

"W-what?"

Tim asked in confusion.

"I need time to seal the area."

"What you're gonna need is medical attention if you don't take a potion."

Tim said angrily at Emers.

Emers shook his head.

"It's too late, she's getting away again."

"What?"

He turned to look at the mound of ice.

"What the F***!"

The mound of ice that Phoenicia was trapped in was glowing red as her firey energy swirled inside.

"She never used the spell she was getting ready."

The ice cracked, first once, then twice, then all at once. The top of the mound exploded as chunks of ice and fire rained down. The entire scene looking as if a snowy mountain turned into a volcano.

Phoenicia rode the explosion and landed on top of the crystal wall with a somersault.

"Well..."

She said while standing in a suave pose.

"Sorry about the mess, but I'm afraid I have other business to attend to with a certain person that refuses to retrain to even the most basic level!"

Phoenicia flared up as she finished the sentence before realizing what she had done.

She coughed into her fist in embarrassment and regained her composure.

"Au Revoir."

And with an elegant swoosh of her robe, she dropped out of sight.

"Told chu."
