ok my next life lesson I learned is perserverance you probably ask hey coach Michael why do you need perserverance in ice skating well I'm glad you asked. In skating when you work on a new move or test pattern it's very scary at first but it takes the same reputation to practice over and over until you get it right ,over and over to get it perfect and before competition ,show or test you practice it over and over until you can do the pattern or program in your sleep .
One thing i learned from Dame Julie Andrews is when she told the young actress playing leisel in the sound of music is what a voice teacher taught her "professionals practice until it's perfect amatures practice it until they get it right" . take Julie Andrews for example she practiced over 100 times to get that song perfect in sound of music and Mary Poppins but in a interview with Diane Sawyer she said when she got angry she would curse and she did when she didn't get it right.I can relate to it one time I was so frustrated on my lesson with Yuriy that I laid down flat on the ice he said "get up " and I said nope I'm done after so many attempts he steps over and calls on his next student and I immediately got up and said this is my session and he said your done and we ended that session and coach Debbie was mad at the whole thing that she made me do laps around the rink the whole lesson and I was smoked from her for my bad session with Yuriy . fast forward years later when I got old and mature instead of getting frustrated and upset I would ask questions . I asked questions like ask what can I do differently to improve the element or pattern ? ,what can I do differently to perfect it ? . sometimes I have a video camera on my phone and I would have my coaches record myself to improve what I need to improve on even if its not up to my standards or my coaches standards I still have perserverance to try and try and try again . when you do something new in your life a new hobby like a new instrument ,a new excercise in the gym ,start a new job ,or gone home from rehabilitation after a terrible addiction and you'll beat the odds with perserverance remember this lesson my friends
"Have perserverance in everything you do
