Chereads / Spirit of the Black Wolf / Chapter 6 - Anthony

Chapter 6 - Anthony

"Did you come up with any plans on recruiting anyone?"

"Not yet." I told Wes as I was laying down on my bed, "I spent all of yesterday's afternoon and night thinking about my approach, but I think that your idea just might work!"

Wes who was still standing at the doorway raised his eyebrow at me, "I didn't come up with any ideas?"

I sat up and jumped out of bed with a grin on my face, "The one about the fliers."

Wes gave me an annoyed look, "You can't be serious?!"

"I'm just joking with you. I couldn't come up with a single thing."

Wes seemed relieved when I said, "I'm sure that you will figure it out. By the way, don't you have class today?"

Crap! He's right!

I ran to my closet and started to pull out the first pair of clothing I saw.

Wes shouted at me as he walked down the hall, "I'll get the truck ready to take you."

"Okay!" I yelled back, "I will be out there in a bit! I am just putting my shoes on!"

Raven Central Campus

"Where do you want me to drop you off at? The main entrance?"

"Not this time, can you drop me off at the West Classroom Building? I am running a little late."

"Where the hell is that at?! You are talking to me as if I come here!"

I pointed at the building as we approached it, "That orange building over there with the big black letters on it!"

"All the buildings are fucking orange and have black letters on them, you big dummy!"

"The one that says C-2!"

As I was getting off the car, I asked Wes, "Didn't you used to come here?"

"That was a long time ago when I was your age and there were only three buildings. Not fifty of them!"

I stood there dumbfounded, "Oh yeah… I forgot that you are old now."

"Just get your ass to class! Call me if you need a ride."

I laughed knowing that I had struck a nerve, "I will let you know when I get out! Thanks!"

I did remember Wes telling me that he got a degree in psychology, but he never got the license to prescribe medicine. I wonder what is holding him back from continuing his education and getting the certification.

We drove for an hour to get to the city next over, Pasadena, where I attend a community college. I couldn't go straight to a university after graduating since I messed around in high school and graduated with the bare minimum of credits. I used to skip class or just wake up late and show up whenever I got there, or I just didn't go.

Even now as I walk to my class, Federal Government 2306, I made sure I make it at the last minute. The class is just so boring, and I have a teacher who has a monotone voice. I try my hardest to not doze off and keep myself awake, but this guy has the ability to put anyone to sleep. The girl to my left has her headphones in and the guy to my right is drawing anime.

"Paul, maybe you can answer my question."

Why did he call on me?

"I saw you daydreaming and not paying attention to my lecture and decided to call on you. What are the three powers of government?"

Wait what?! Is he serious?! I'm not the one paying attention! Does he not see what my two classmates that are sitting beside me are doing?! I guess whatever… It's just my stupid luck.

"Don't look at your peers for the answers please and answer the question."

This guy is starting to piss me off! Lucky for me, I know the answer, "Legislative, Judicial, and Executive."

"I'm impressed. You were paying attention."

He left me alone, but the time I had left in class just seemed to drag itself out.

"Okay, class. It's about five minutes until 11:30 am. We will pick back up on this on Wednesday and talk about the essay that you will have to turn in."

I could not have run out of that class any faster. I wonder if mom was here. I walked down the hall that led to the central building C-3, the Administration building, and upstairs to head in the direction of C-4, East Classroom Building. In front of the business office are two wooden, brown doors that lead into another hall where the other professors' offices are found. The whole hall does a complete U-turn. It is just easier to take the second door than the first because as soon as you walk through the door mom's office is the first one on the right, Professor Regina Quattlebaum Julian. Damn it! Her door is closed and locked; she might be down in her classroom.

Her classroom is in C-4, East Classroom building downstairs. All I had to do was walk back out into the hall and turn left, then take the stairs and once on the first floor turn to my left where her classroom, C-4 Rm. 108 should be. There was a paper taped in front of her classroom door that read, "No class today."

This was just great… I wanted to see her.

"Are you okay?!"

That voice sounds familiar! I turned to my right to see who it was, and no one other than Anthony, "Sup bro!"

"Professor Julian told me about the accident. How do you feel?"

"Yeah! I was out for a good week, so I had plenty of time to heal."

"You're crazy! From a head injury? Nope, I do not believe it. You need at least three months for something like that to heal. You should still have stitches from the injury. I'm surprised that you are able to even walk after a week."

He started to examine my head to see if he could find the scar.

"I don't see anything! It's as if you have completely healed. Are you sure you got hit in the head with a rock while being dragged down by the river?"

So that is the lie that Wes used.

"I'm fine." I said assuring him, "Wes has his recipes remember."

Anthony looked at me annoyed, "You know that I do not easily believe that crap."

I laughed nervously, "It's the truth. I promise."

"Whatever."

The guy right here is Anthony Yii, who was my close friend throughout my time in high school. The guy is highly intelligent but claims that he isn't and says that all he does is study hard. He is more of the type of 'if I see it, I believe it' guy and does not believe that anyone, especially the ones living in a city, has the ability to use magic. This is also the same reason I have not introduced him to Wes because Anthony likes to challenge people on that subject, and I am too afraid that Wes will kill him because he has no patience for people like him.

"What have you been up to other than resting?"

I was unsure if I should tell him, but here goes, "I have been trying to find Wes a new apprentice."

"I thought you were learning from him. Let me guess, it wasn't what you expected."

"No, it's not that. I am still learning but we wanted to find an extra helping hand. I have been trying to come up with an idea to get someone to join us."

Anthony put his left hand on my right shoulder and had a smile on his face that creeped me out a bit, "Leave it to me! I will find you this person! I will text you later tonight for some more information if I need it."

I didn't even ask him to help me!

With that, the man walked away as if I had given him the best job ever. One thing is for sure, I have a weird feeling about this.
