A boy and his father were walking on the street following a huge group. They were all on their way to the supposed evacuation site, exhaustion can be seen on everyone's faces.
Everyone's been walking for a few hours already and the tension they felt and the obstacles like abandoned cars were making the journey harder than it should've been.
"Daddy, why are we leaving, aren't we safe there?"
It couldn't be helped though, the boy's common sense made it seem like a soldier with a gun is an absolute sign of power rather it was the logical conclusion to make, looking at the history of this modern weapon.
It was crazy to think that a group of trained soldiers with guns would be forced to retreat against something that was empty handed. The father didn't want to think about what was out there that was capable of making the higher ups give this order without even attempting to fight it.
Not knowing how to respond to his son, he tried to think of any lies that not only his son needed, but he needed as well.
He was just about to talk when one man started to talk.
"We're all going to die, the monster out there is something capable of causing some major loss to an entire battalion that the JSDF or the Prime Minister can't afford."
The father wanted to argue with the man, but he couldn't because it made sense as to why the soldiers were retreating. The man wasn't finished and continued to talk.
"Perhaps we would've survived had we evacuated immediately, but we felt safe, so we ignored the warnings of the authorities. This is probably our karma."
Everyone evacuating now felt envious of those who evacuated earlier, they would've dismissed the warnings had it not been the occasional howls that were getting louder and louder. The soldiers have left already and they were left on their own, so they couldn't even complain to anyone anymore.
Just like the man talking, some already gave up on their lives and started to drink, some would attempt to hide in one of the buildings and finally there are the ones like the father and son duo who tried their best to evacuate.
It's not like no one realized how unrealistic it was enough for them to reach the evacuation zone, but none of them wanted to acknowledge it.
They could only hope that they'd make it there, but hope wouldn't make them faster nor would it make the evacuation zone closer.
The father didn't want his son to listen to the man anymore, so he brought his son away from the man.
"There's no point in leaving! Just like how your son had heard the truth, the monsters out there are closer than you'd like to think!"
The voice of the man could be heard as they left.
Thinking to himself that they were far enough, he stopped and his son immediately asked.
"Is it true, are we all gonna die?"
Seeing his son ask fearfully he was just about to reassure him when a howl could be heard a few distance away from their current location followed by screams.
Panic and terror in his heart, the father immediately carried his son through the streets of the city, away from the blood curdling screams.
They crossed street to street and when the father felt they were far enough, he went into one of the houses and only then did he stop carrying his son who was crying all the time.
The heartbreaking expression of his son made him want to comfort the boy, he was just about to hug the boy when something burst through the wall and he could see these gigantic canines about to crush his son.
He jumped towards his son and hugged his son's legs while rolling sideways away from the jaws. Thinking to himself that they should run immediately, he was just about to make his son stand up when he saw his son's dismembered body. The body was missing its head down to its torso.
Looking at the monster's jaws, he watched as it crushed the head of his son filled with fear between its canines. The blood of his son splashed across his face as the flesh and bones were mangled by its canines before being swallowed.
Fear engulfed his body, as he ran away from the monster, his anger and guilt buried by the fear he felt against the monster and the desire to live longer. It was however impossible for him to outrun this monster as he suddenly fell.
He wondered why he can no longer feel his lower body, so he looked down only to see the canines of the monster covered with his blood. It was only then that he realized that he no longer had a lower body, the monster bit it off so fast it didn't even register in his mind.
He screamed in pain and in anger as he cursed the monster in front of him. Now that he was at his last moments did he start to regret his previous action. It would've been a better death had he fought this monster for the sake of revenge. All he could feel now was shame and fear as he watched the monster's jaws go for the rest of his body.
The Prime Minister Hisashi could only feel shame and anger as he listened to his subordinates' report.
"The center of Shinagawa City until Gotanda Station is now considered as the Fenrir's territory, as for the evacuees, out of the almost twenty thousand civilians only five thousand people were able to evacuate to the evacuation zone. According to our scouts, there were no survivors."
When the report ended, Hisashi immediately asked for the man to leave. It was shameful to hear that a city of his country is now considered someone's territory which made it even more shameful since that someone is a giant animal.
The "Daikaiju" was named Fenrir not only because of its resemblance, but the fact that more "Daikaiju" were appearing and they needed to distinguish all of them.
The only saving grace for his country is the fact that none of the "daikaiju" were aiming for the capital, otherwise they'd lose the foothold they secure with great amounts of effort and resources.
It's not like there were no efforts made into gaining more foothold on other cities however the capital and its surrounding cities were claimed with barely affordable losses and they needed more time to be able to send a force that's capable of reclaiming a territory.
Support from other countries was also impossible, especially from the USA and even China whose population was greater than Japan, even with their advanced military power, the number of zombies were so high and most of the military personnel were infected that if it wasn't for the higher-ups, their military system might've been ruined.
The current status of humans wasn't so great, money no longer had any value and to get food or other items, they would have to be exchanged for coupons made by the government or items that hold equal value.
One would think that the state of the USA would be great, but the number of evolved beings there made it that even if the ordinary civilians could deal with the regular zombies, they would be killed by the evolved beings that were attracted by the sound of guns used by the civilians.
It was so bad to the point that civilians wouldn't carelessly use it unless it was a life or death situation.
Thinking to himself that he has it better than most countries, Hisashi started to think about what he can do to make the situation better. He could however only wait till they are able to stabilize the situation before they could make any move.
Hisashi once again could only hope for any good news that'll make the situation better.
Meanwhile, Riku and his group were using the time to kill as many zombies as they can, Eliza was already catching up with Riku, who was level 7 already while Rikka was level 5.
There was not that much change, except for the number of zombies that have decreased causing the rats to be far more active during the day which was a good thing for Riku and his group.
They've killed so many zombies that they were no technically no longer improving, the danger has increased ever since the rats became active since they were much more stronger than regular zombies. Not only were they much faster, they were also stronger whether it was individually or as a group and they were capable of thinking at least compared to a normal zombie.
They were hunting these rats when all the rats suddenly raised their heads while sniffing the air, bewildered by their behavior Riku and his group observed them when suddenly all the rats simultaneously ran into one direction.
Curious as to where they were going, Riku and his group followed their trail thanks to Kohaku leading them to a hole in the ground that smells horrible. Seeing the chewed cement forming a hole, Riku and his group stopped to discuss their plan.
