Chapter 7 - Beginning 4

While the situation for David and other survivors subsides, Katsumi and his companions have taken stock of their situation. Katsumi looks solemn as he ponders over a playing card that appeared on his hand. The figure on it suspiciously had a jester hat. His companions who were with him before had panicked at their current circumstances. At first, Katsumi felt dumbfounded by the situation and even had a bit of trepidation. Now, Katsumi is calm. Calm to the point that his companion's also became calm. They had not known what to do when they woke up and looked at their surroundings. One or two had left their group looking for an exit. The rest simply hovered around Katsumi, this imposing young man of their generation. To them, Katsumi had always been the other child their parents' had compared them to, but now, this other child became their life saving straw. They looked to him and Katsumi simply hummed. The gears in his mind slowly turning. What he had spit out first was "investigate," as his slender jade hand pointed at the only spot darker than their surroundings. Katsumi's companions simply nodded. Kastumi, on the other hand, strolled around paying attention to the debris, the survivors' conversation, and other sounds in a five mile radius. As he strolled around, his brows furrowed and his expression grew darker. Occasionally, he would stop and help people pull others from under debris. He lent only a helping hand never more. His companions came and reported their findings with grave faces, "we can't see what beyond that opening."

Katsumi swept his calm gaze over them. The companions felt wronged. They suddenly all tried to speak up for themselves. Seeing Katsumi's face darken, the companions pushed the only person in their group a little more familiar with him. This person much to his dissatisfaction once pushed into the pit stepped forward steadily. He had been the one to ask about Katsumi's engagement. He and Katsumi had been pushed by their respective families to mingle since young. His family had been particularly enthusiastic to make connections with Katsumi's family. He never knew until he grew up. When they were young, he had particularly liked to make trouble for others. However, when he was at Katsumi's home he would be well behaved. That is until he knew Katsumi's personality. Even though, their companionship had been prearranged by their families, he felt or at least hoped that their honesty about each other character showed that they each held a certain degree of trust toward each other that indicated some kind of friendship. As a kid he had been happy and as an adult, he was grateful. As a mix child, his mother was born and raised in American by American parents, he had been greatly estranged from the younger generation of his dad's side of the family. It was especially so as he did not particularly look Asian or have a reserved character. The only Asian distinction of any kind were his eyes but they were usually hidden in his bushy and curly hair. His brown skin did not make his estrangement lighter. Even the older generation from his dad's side kept him arms away. They still were somewhat polite as he was the only male descendant. It was only until he started hanging out with Katsumi that people began paying attention to him. After briefly going down memory lane, he straightened himself and tried to calmly report as much as possible, "We wanted to continue but before we could we saw Huang who had left earlier had walked to the direction only to be stuck. He became frustrated and banged the invisible barrier or force stopping him. Then he was bounced out . We couldn't see where he landed. We only heard a scream and then nothing."

Katsumi glanced at this companion who had been with him for many years, and snapped his fingers in a constant rhythm. His companion added, "We may assume two things from this. We are prohibited from going that direction or we are inside some kind of enclosed area."

Katsumi asked, "did you guys go elsewhere or observed anything else?" sweeping his gaze around his three companions. His friend more than companion continued, "yeah, I split us up after going together to that area. The debris seems to be less outwards, so the area we are in should be circular at least. Also the debris is odd. We were at Blue Ribbon, but from what we saw and where we woke up, there was no sign of the restaurant we saw. Nevertheless, the debris is familiar but from other parts around the Grove." Katsumi nodded. His friend's guess and observations only confirmed what saw and guessed tentatively. Analyzing what his companions had reported and what he had found out about, he was about to report his conclusion when the hall went quite. The cries that had resounded throughout stopped and the underlying humming of unknown words reached a climax. The odd lightening in the hall turned almost off sinking them in darkness. Only small embers could be vaguely seen. These embers were like small stars drifting in space. Just as suddenly as light went off, it turned on and sunk the halls into light blinding everyone. Preventing anyone from seeing anything. This light, however, did not come from the torches or at least not all of it. It came from what they thought was the exit or entrance of this strange place. The light slowly converged and molded itself into the figure of a voluptuous woman. When the light slowly settled, the woman was clad in robes covering every inch of her figure except her face and hair. Her hair was weaved with a laces then folded neat across her shoulder. From the lazes to her robes, it all seemed to move and flutter as if living. Her hair was wavy. The color indistinguishable. Sometimes a myriad of colors and sometimes none at all as her strands of hair wear glass or crystal. Even her own body seem to be made of glass. Her robes on the other hand were as if weaved from stars and rivers of golf flowed in them. Many people were left astonished. Only a handful were a doubtful and another part took the chance to see their surroundings.
