Chapter 19 - Why one should not betray the country

Keiro had assumed that Moncee was behind the detective club investigating the banned materials that they had taken pains to get rid of. But the actual story was different.

The MFC had taken great pains to plant spies in the Student's council and they had been present with Moncee during his first attempt at inspecting the ghost club room.

News soon reached Olto Vevee, the leader of MFC that President Moncee was treated with disrespect by the ghost club members.

An emergency meeting was convened and Olto Vevee stood with the newfound energy of someone who had suddenly found their purpose in life. After discussing the case, she spoke to her members like a general speaking to her army.

Vevee: "Dear fellow club members, who's our idol?

Members: "It's Matt Moncee."

Vevee: "I can't hear you!"

Members: "MATT MONCEE!" They shouted in unison.

Vevee: "That's true! As you can see, someone has now slighted our beloved President. If we can't protect our President then who will? Our President has a bright future ahead of him and is invaluable to our country. So protecting the President is equal to protecting the nation. So who is our enemy?"

Members: "It's the Ghost club."

Vevee: "I can't hear you!"

Members: "THE GHOST CLUB!!!!"

And the next day, as per Olto Vevee's plan, the members split into groups searching the trash bins around the school. After searching for a whole night, they got their hands on what the ghost club had discarded. They submitted the boxes for the detective club to investigate because they had a hunch it was from the ghost club.

Shimlee, Rusa, and Pell Hugo made their way to the music club room just before midnight. They patiently waited near the piano. Rusa took no pains to hide her excitement while Shimlee and Hugo stood respectfully. When the clock struck twelve, they heard the piano playing ....a beautifully melancholic piece, and Rusa noted that it was the same piece of music she had heard with Keiro that day.

Rusa: "It is one of Dopin's Nocturnes isn't it? Was it your father's favorite?"

Hugo: "I have never heard my father playing it when he was alive ....but I know that his ghost plays the same piece every night."

Shimlee confirmed the presence of the ghost during the piano performance. Soon the performance ceased and they discussed the case.

Rusa: "Nocturne itself means night music...The performance was indeed very tranquil and beautiful and played to perfection as expected of a maestro. Can it be that Pell King's regret is connected to the nocturne he is playing?"

Shimlee: "It is possible...But I do not understand why he is playing a classic when he has made several compositions himself... "

Rusa: "This is the Nocturne OP.48 no.1 in c minor. It is considered as one of the most emotional ones among all his nocturnes."

Hugo: "You seem to know a lot about music.."

Rusa: "Naah... I just looked it up on the internet after hearing it the other day.."

Hugo: "I'll ask my father's colleagues and friends what particular connection he had with this piece of music..."

Shimlee: "Yes that would be the best thing to do for now. We'll catch you later."

Shimlee and Rusa wished Hugo goodnight and made their way back to the dorms.

Rusa: "Where is Keiro?"

Shimlee: "She said she had something urgent to do."

Rusa chuckled.

Rusa: "She is just afraid of ghosts isn't she?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rusa's assumption was only partly correct because Keiro did have some urgent business that night. The detectives usually stayed around their club room till dinner time and Keiro had no choice but to wait till midnight. So a little before midnight,Keiro had made her way to school and into their ghost club room. She was dressed in a black hoodie that covered her head and with a black mask, she had covered her face. She went into Roju's lab and searched for the 'antinerator'. She took the metal box out and slowly made her way to the detective club room. She was relieved to find that it was not locked. She ignored the cameras as they would not be able to see her face in her garb.

At this rate she would graduate in burglary before she joined journalism, thought Keiro.

She could hear the piano playing at a distance and felt the creeps. Somehow the music seemed like it was the background music to what she was doing. Keiro noted that this bgm very much matched her present state. If not for Moncee she would not have to go through all this trouble. She hoped he would rot in hell. Keiro turned on the flashlight of her phone and searched the detective club. It did not take her long to lay her hands on the boxes containing the banned stuff. She opened the box with her gloved hands and took out a magazine.

She then opened the antinerator box that she had brought with her and placed the magazine inside it. She closed the box and waited for a few seconds. The music that the ghost was playing seemed to be reaching a climax...

'This better work .....' She held her breath and waited a few seconds.

She then opened the box and found that the magazine had disappeared.

'Haha, Roju is a genius!' she exclaimed.

She now wasted no time and began filling the box with all the banned stuff one by one.In this way, in a matter of five minutes she had finished destroying all the evidence.

'Let's see from where you can get the fingerprints now!'With the evidence completely destroyed there was no way anyone could implicate them now.Now she had to get rid of the antinerator.

She made her way out of the detective club room taking the antinerator box with her. She went straight to the east gate of their school, which she knew would be locked but unguarded. To her disappointment, she saw a watchman guarding there.Keiro tiptoed her way back and decided to climb over the wall. She first threw the antinerator box to the other side and making sure no one was around, proceeded to climb over the school wall. It took her some time to scale over the wall, and when she reached the top she had to blow over her hands that were hot and red due to all the effort.

'Next time I should ask Roju to get a machine that can help me climb over walls,'thought she.

Wait a minute...It was because of Roju that she had to go through all this trouble. If the student's council did another inspection or if the detective club tried to investigate they would get their hands on this antinerator.

Keiro sat on the wall, took a look at the ground on the other side, and gulped. She had perhaps underestimated the size of the wall because she was sure she would break a leg if she jumped from there. It was funny that she had worked hard to climb up but not planned on how to get down. It seemed she was stuck there.

"Jan Keiro!"

Keiro froze when she heard her name. Somebody had called her from outside the compound and she realized with a shock who it was. She must have betrayed the country in her past life, for 'he' had to catch her right when she was stuck over the school wall!
