Chapter 11 - Watching A Drama

"Oh! I thought that moss sucking, dirt grubbing, leech was coming to me with Queen candidates and that you knew about it. That you quickly responded and saved me again but I wasn't going to let you sacrifice yourself again for me. You deserve better but I had it all wrong."

"Spring finally came to my brother! We'll have to plan a grand engagement party and even bigger wedding and oh! I will have to have people lock you away with your bride so I can have my first niece or nephew by next year." Esai said excitedly.

"Brother?" Calder called out. Esai let go of Calder and then quickly started straightening Calder's uniform. "Yes." He said absentmindedly. "What if that was the case?" Calder asked. "Does it matter? It's not the case so drop it." Esai said as he took a step back and admired Calder. "But I'm curious. I want too know what you would have done if I was sacrificing myself for you?" Calder asked.

Esai dropped his face slightly causing his face to be shrouded in shadows. "I would have killed them right then and there." He responded as his amethyst eyes glowed an eerie purple. Calder's heart stopped. He was petrified from his brother's look. "But that's not the case right?" Esai said in a low and deadly voice. Calder quickly shook his head no. "Good." Esai said cheerfully as his face brightened up.

"We should heading towards the festivities now." Esai said as he walked past Calder and reached for the door. "I guess I will have to change my plans now." Esai then said with a bit of a pout. "What plans?" Calder asked but then instantly regretted his question. "I need to get those male entertainers out of your room. I wanted to help you take a closer step towards manhood but look at you! You're doing it all by yourself like a big boy." Esai said as he pretended to cry.

"I AM NOT INTO MEN!" Calder shouted at the top of his lungs.

....

Calder stood by the buffet table stuffing his face with slices of strawberry cake. He knew his face was scary looking, he knew his body was towering over most and it was very intimidating by comparison but why was his brother so popular?

Esai was way scarier then him yet he was surrounded with people. "You're going to get fat your highness." Rutley said in a bored voice as he stood beside Calder. "I just have to work up a sweat and burn off what I ate." Calder said as he took the last slice of strawberry cake.

"You say that but your highness, you ate the whole strawberry cake meant for 20 people." Rutley said as he looked at the empty tray. Calder's eyes bulged outwards as he swallowed the cake in his mouth without chewing. Calder immediately started to choke and he quickly started to hit his chest with his fist. "A-are y-you a-alright y-your h-highness?" A small, sweet voice called out.

Rutley handed Calder a cup and Calder took it right away and chugged back it's contents. "Haaaaaaa." Calder said loudly as he got air into his lungs. "I thought I was going to die." Calder gasped as he placed the cup onto the buffet table. "What a stupid question to ask Lady Britille. Can't you see that his highness is alive and breathing." A colder, harsher voice called out from behind Lady Britille.

"Oh Lady Syria... I just thought... Well it looked like.. Like he was in pain." Lady Britille said awkwardly as she turned her gaze to the floor. "Must be nice being able to act like a helpless animal in front of any gentlemen." Lady Syria said as she pulled out a dark red fan and covered the lower half of her face.

"No... That's not... not what... Not what I wanted.... or t-tried to do." Lady Britille said as she looked up at Lady Syria. Her eyes were already turning red and the other guests had started to gather to watch the drama unfold. "Then what are you trying to achieve by acting like that?" Lady Syria asked with a snotty tone. "I-I-I." Lady Britille stuttered as tears welled up and started to spill silently over her fair cheeks.

Then the whispers started.

"She's at it again."

"Who?"

"Lady Syria."

"Oh she's such a disgrace! All the noble women hate her. She readily opens her legs for anyone."

"Oh I heard she had an affair with her tutor's husband."

"Was it not the gardener?"

"I thought it was the shop keeper so she could get all the latest dresses without waiting."

"Poor Lady Britille. She's so sweet and innocent."

"Someone needs to teach Lady Syria a lesson."

"Acting like that in front of his highness too, how droll can someone to want his attention?"

"Huh? Who?"

"Lady Syria! Who else? Every time she sees a gentle and timid lady like Lady Britille she has to torment them."

"Didn't she do the same thing to Lady Gwendolyn?"

"Who?"

"You know the one who went insane an started to cut herself."

Lady Syria's eyes grew wide, the colour drained from her face as her hands trembled. Calder was shocked. Lady Syria had lost her composure. He looked behind her and glared at the crowd. Everyone instantly fell silent.

"Oh my the dance floor looks rather empty."

"Ah where did his Majesty go?"

"Oh father there you are. I was looking all over for you."

The crowd dispersed with their awkward excuses. Calder watched carefully making mental note of every face who came to watch the supposed drama. While both Ladies looked at Calder with wide, rounded eyes. Calder coughed as he averted his gaze. He didn't mean to glare for fiercely but he couldn't help it. He had similar experiences as both Taki an Calder.

He really wanted to say something to the on lookers at first but he couldn't think of anything. Instead he just glared at them as he silently sent a message with his eyes. "Shut up." He felt bad that it was fiercer then what he intended and that the Lady Britille and Lady Syria were caught up in his glare.
