As the color drains from Varick's face, the rest are staring at the weapons in awe. The metallic shape is so foreign to them, then there are these little odd shaped metal like things in a large case. Kirin reaches over to touch the weapon, Varick panicked and grabbed her wrist.
"What are you doing Varick?"
"Please… my lady do not touch it until I instruct you, this goes to all of you! One wrong pull and you can kill someone you wish not to. Hand them to me…"
As Shou hands him the pouch, she is even more curious as to what could make Varick so panicked. 'They don't look dangerous, there aren't any magic seals or anything that would cause alarm. What is he so afraid of?' She curiously thought as she gazed at Varick.
"These weapons come from my world, because my world discarded magic so long ago, we found other ways to achieve destructive power. This Is one of them. The reason I didn't shy from a sword was simple, I have been near them before. This on the other hand… this is called a gun. It uses gunpowder that is condensed into these shells we call bullets."
Varick checked the clip, then the chamber, loaded a single bullet into the clip and locked it in, then he cocked back the firing pin, he aimed at the tree after signalling everyone to stand back. "Cover your ears please." He then gripped the gun in both hands, aimed again at the tree and fired.
'Bang!!!!'
The sound made the whole group jump up and stare at the gaping hole in the tree trunk. Bewilderment enthralled everyone's mind at this new development. They stared with blank faces at Varick until he woke them from their stupor.
"This… this is not magic. This is some of what human kind developed in my world after the sword age. They become even more advanced than this small pistol and even more powerful. It.. it isn't something that should be here… please leave this in my care, accidental firing is easy to do. However, I need to make a holster.. are there any leather crafters in the village we are heading to?"
Shou nodded still bewildered at this. 'How can this be so strong?' She looked at the tree again. 'This is impossible without magic… isn't it?'
Varick packed the gun and everyone got ready to leave. "My lady Kirin!" Varick called. "Please wait, um.."
Kirin turned around and had the most enchanting smile on her face as she turned towards him. "Hmm…" she hummed at him. Slightly stunned at those crystal like orbs staring at him, after hearing her melodic voice, he almost fell into a trance. Shaking his head. "Um.. may I stay beside you? I.. um.. never mind…" Varick stared at the ground as he walked.
A very uncomfortable silence donned on them. Varick lost in his thoughts, Kirin in her own.
'Why do I feel so nervous around her yet, I have no fear taking on a lion deity? Sigh, I guess this is what it is like to like someone, but honestly why do I feel such a pull towards her? I have only known her for a few days but this protective instinct, and wanting to shower her with care is insane! At one glance you would think her and Jun were together but after what I saw… that's her brother. I wonder if she knows? Maybe I should tell them? Yea I will tell them!'
Varick looked toward Kirin again, seeing her lost in thought he gently tapped her arm. Shockingly she almost jumped out of her skin. "Varick! Oh gods please don't do that again, you scared the life out of me!" Tapping her hand on her chest she tempered her heart from the sudden jolt.
A small sheepish smile made its way unto his handsome face. "I am sorry Kirin, I didn't mean to scare you but, I have something I need to tell you and Jun. It's… it's important."
Nodding to him she grabbed Jun and they conversed while walking. He told them what he saw when he grabbed Jun earlier, about what it meant on the screens he saw. The look of shock, and disbelief ran across both of their faces. Then Kirin realized something, she remembered the odd feeling she got for Jun when they met. It made more sense. Looking at Jun and his stunned appearance she smiled at him then poked his side.
Jun jumped immediately away from her then came out of his stupor. He told them about his amnesia and how it could be possible. They are the only Unicorns in existence after all. Nodding her agreement she vowed in her heart to recover his memories.
'I have a family!'
Seeing them, Varick was reminded of his older sister back in his world, Kiora, he wondered if he would ever see her again.
With this thought he fell into silence, remembering his crazy, happy, sweet sister. Sure she drove him nuts most of the time, but then there were times when she could be incredibly sweet and caring. Her crazy antics would not only infuriate him but make him laugh. She always knew how to get him out of a bad mood. He missed her.
Sighing once again he tried to pull himself away from those memories, he needed to be alert now. He had to make sure Kirin was safe. 'Kirin' he murmured lowly to himself. Just the thought of her made his mood lighten. A small smile made its way to his face, which had not gone unnoticed from the ever sharp eyes of Ruishi.
Ruishi eyed Varick for a moment and wondered what could that boy be smiling about? So he gave him a light kick to pull him out of his reverie and whispered to him. "Hey, stay sharp boy. Remember why we are here." Varick nodden and schooled himself again to be vigilant once more.
Sensing the boy was ok again Ruishi went back to his place as they continued along the road towards the village. They hoped to reach there before the festival starts.
