Before she knew it Amber found herself eating lunch on the rooftop with Carla. Keaton had been discharged from the hospital the previous night. He was resting at home and Amber couldn't help but worry about the old man who always put up a strong front.
'Shoot, I wasn't paying attention to my classes today. I'm gonna have to study them at home.' She thought.
"So?" Carla asked.
"So, what?" Amber asked, confused.
"So, what happened? Where has your mind been the whole day?" Carla asked.
"Ah, that. Actually..." Amber told her best and only friend about what happened the previous day.
"Oh my god, I hope he's doing better." Carla clasped her hands together in concern.
"That's what I'm worried about. He's the type of person who pretends to be fine... Maybe I should go home early today..."
"You want to skip classes?!" Carla asked, dumbfounded. "You?"
"But I'm just so worried about him. I can always study by myself to make up for the classes..."
Carla pouted and thought for a while before saying, "Why don't you ask that guy to check up on your Gramps?"
"... Who...?"
"That guy... uh, Wilson! You could ask him for help."
"... Wilson..." Amber frowned.
"What now?" Carla asked, confused.
"He... admitted Gramps to the hospital and called to tell me... He spoke to the doctor and also bought the medicine... I couldn't ask any more of him." Amber said with a difficult expression.
"Don't say that." Carla smacked her shoulder lightly. "He definitely won't mind helping you out. I guarantee it. Plus, he's the only person you know who can."
"..." Amber considered her options and decided to call Wilson.
"Put it on speaker! On speaker!" Carla bugged her.
"Fine!" Amber scowled.
'Ring-Ring Ring-Ring click' In just four rings the other side picked the call.
"Hello?" Came a cheerful voice from the phone.
"... Hello?" Amber hesitated a bit before responding.
"Amber, honey. It's rare for you to call me. You just made my day! What happened?" Wilson jubilantly greeted her.
"... " Amber paused.
" Darling? What's wrong? Did something happen?" He sounded distressed.
"... Nothing happened... I just... nevermind..."
"Tell me. You seem worried about something, what is it? I'll listen to whatever it is, no matter how small."
"... I'm... worried about him..." She finally said.
"Ah, I thought so." He said. "Still, I'm glad that you told me."
"... I was forced, wasn't I?" She said.
He chuckled. " That's true." He then sighed. "He'll be alright, Amber. Like I said yesterday, he's not the type of person to stay dead even when killed. He'll come back to life just as you place him in the coffin. He's only hurt his back, the next thing you know the old bastard will be chasing me around to beat me to death. Actually, now's our chance. Why don't we elope while he's still unable to move?"
Amber let out a short laugh. "You've finally lost your mind? Don't delude yourself."
"Aah!" He groaned. "Sugar-coat your words a little, dear. You'll kill me one day."
She smiled. "I'm looking forward to that day."
He chuckled. " You've cheered up."
"... Says who?"
"~Sigh!~ Fine. Whatever you say is right. And so? You're worried about the old man and you want me to check on him? I'm guessing it's something along that line."
"...Mm... If it's not too troublesome..." Amber bit her bottom lip, frowning.
"M'kay. I'll send you a message when I get there, okay sweetie? Knowing you, you won't rest until it's confirmed that he's alright. Don't worry and pay attention to classes, okay? You barely have any free time, don't spend the few hours you have at home revising because you didn't pay attention in class. I'll shoot a text as soon as I see him."
Amber smiled. 'You know me so well...'
"...Thank you, Wilson."
"Oh my, that's two 'Thank yous' in 24 hours. I might just go to heaven!"
"Shut up."
