"...Thank you, Wilson."
"Oh my, that's two 'Thank you's' in 24 hours. I might just go to heaven!"
"Shut up."
"Yes, Milady. Also, say thanks to your friend Carla who probably forced you to call me."
Carla grinned. "You're welcome, Mr. Wilson. I gave you a chance to earn more cookie points from your darling. Make use of it well."
"Oh, you're on speaker. Thank you, Carla. I shall make the most of this opportunity."
The corner of Amber's lips twitched. "I'm right here, you two."
"Of course you are! I'd never plan something like this sneakily, you know me. Alright, give me a minute, I'm starting my break. I'll get to your house in fifteen minutes tops!"
"Where are you going, shithead?" They heard a voice from Wilson's side of the line.
"Paul!" Wilson whined. "My Amber's on the line, be polite to me!"
"Like hell I will, to a slacker like you!" Paul barked out. "I had to cover your work yesterday too. If you skip out on work like this every other day, what's the use of having you, you dead weight!"
"I had to get Keaton to the hospital. The old man hurt his back! I'm not slacking off! Anyway, Amber's on the line, don't give her a bad impression of me! I'm already having a hard time!" Wilson whined.
"The old man? How the heck did that demon hurt his back? Is that even possible?" Paul seemed to be in disbelief.
"I know right! Amber's super worried so I'm just leaving to check up on the old man for a bit. I'll be back in less than an hour."
"Should I come along? I really can't imagine Keaton lying weakly on the bed with a broken back..." Paul said, still in disbelief.
"Now, THAT'S called slacking off, what I'M doing is important."
"Shut up, I'm going in my break."
"I'm going in my break too, though!" Wilson grumbled.
"Seriously," Paul's voice got louder as he seemed to have gotten closer to the phone. " I don't see why you put up with this childish bastard, Amber. If he's giving you trouble, let me know. I'll beat him up."
"What, no! Don't give her any new ideas!" Wilson shrieked. "Amber, honey, don't do that okay? I'm really not giving you a hard time, right?"
Amber smiled. "Hm... I might just take you up your offer someday, Paul."
"I heard ya, young lady." Paul said.
"No! Amber, I'll cut the call before this jerk gives you any more ideas, yeah? I'll message when we get there. It's your lunch time, isn't it? Eat properly and pay attention to class, the old man will be fine."
"Bye."
"Aw, bye, darling! You actually said bye to m-"
Amber hung up on him before the man could say anything else. She turned to Carla. "Had your daily dose of meddling?"
Carla grinned. "I am extremely satisfied!"
Amber shook her head, snorting in amusement.
Carla then looked a bit confused. "Wait, I get how Mr. Wilson knows your Gramps but how does that Paul guy know your Gramps?"
"Wilson and Paul both work in one of the police departments. Gramps was famous when he was in the police force, apparently. It's normal for them to know or look up to him." Amber responded. "We have visitors from the police force every now and then."
"Oh wow, he must be super famous, huh! Wait, Mr. Wilson works in the Police? He doesn't seem like it at all! I mean, he's such a.... cheerful? He's such a lively person, you wouldn't think he could work in such a serious environment!"
Amber smiled. "He only acts silly around Gramps and I. He's actually mostly serious when he's at work."
"Oh~" Carla smirked. "Sooo, you've seen him at work? Did you think he was cool?"
"Mm." Amber then turned to Carla abruptly. "Don't tell him that!"
"Yes, Ma'am." Carla says, still smirking.
Amber looked at her with a serious look on her face. "His current job is my dream job. He's my goal. Of course I find him cool." Her eyes looked straight ahead with a seriousness Carla hadn't seen before.
Amber was a closed off person. She never talked about herself. Carla knew close to nothing about Amber. She knew about Gramps and Wilson because those were the only topics Amber was willing to talk about.
