(Serena's POV)
I had waited like forever to finally see Alexander. I was so impatient during the meeting that Father was in. It had literally been seventeen minutes and thirty-two seconds. How long was Father going to make me wait?
I looked at the crown prince as there was an awkward silence between us. I didn't know what to talk about since we already finished introductions, so there wasn't much to say. I wasn't much of a talker either. I can't open up with anyone besides Alex and my family. I heard my father's voice getting closer. I stood up with excitement. We were finally going to visit Alex now. I watched as the door opened and saw father and King Tyson laughing. The queen followed right behind. She was so beautiful. Her platinum blonde hair looked beautiful on her pale white skin. It was put up in a bun with little bits of hair trailing down in the front. Her eyes were mesmerizing. They were light blue with a hint of sea green.
"This is Serena, my only daughter."
"She is so beautiful. She will look so well with Hermon." Wait, what? I shrugged it off, thinking I might have misheard it. The queen came over to me and gave me tight hug. She looked at me and gave me a contagious smile. I smiled back. "I'm pretty sure she will make a great queen along with Hermon."
I felt my smile drop as I looked at my father, hoping he would say something. He just smiled like he was agreeing with them. I could feel myself wanting to cry, but I held it in. I had to talk about it to him later. I'm pretty sure he will understand. I kept my head as they kept on talking about they had agreed. Probably about me and Hermon. I wish Father would have said something about this.
It took another ten minutes for us to finally get out of there. Father took my hand as we neared the carriage and helped me up. I sat down quietly and waited for the carriage to start moving.
"Father?" I tightly grabbed the dress I took hours for this day. I was crinkling it up, but I didn't care anymore.
"Yes." I looked him straight in the eye. It was something I never did, so I was trembling a little as I looked into Father's bold eyes.
"Why?" I choked down a sob that almost came through.
"What do you mean, Seri?" Father tilted his head in conclusion. Was he really that clueless?
"Why didn't you tell me about this?" Father stared at me for a second before he let out a heavy sigh.
"I didn't want you to get nervous, plus isn't it great? You are going to marry into a powerful kingdom." Father smiled proudly at me. Did he even care what I am feeling right now?
"I don't want to get married to him," I said it so softly. My voice refused to say it out loud.
"Huh?" I felt a tear run down my cheek. Father came over to my side of the carriage and sat next to me. "What happened?"
"I don't want to get married to him." I mustered up every bit of courage I had to speak out as loud as I can. My tears were dampening my cheeks little by little.
"Is it Alex?" Father was glaring at me. I tried to make myself small. "Do you like him?"
"I don't know."
"Serena, you are a princess and Alex is just a son of a general. I would have considered if he was a prince, but he is not." That made me not want to become a princess anymore. I hate this high-class society thing. I stopped talking to Father and stared out of the carriage the whole ride.
It took a while to finally get there. I got out of the carriage by myself. Father didn't come out, instead, he ordered two guards to stay by my side. I was kind of glad that he didn't come.
"I'm coming to get you after two hours." I nodded my head, obediently. I stayed there and watched as Father went out the gates into the town. I turned around and saw Alex's house. I slapped my cheeks to get rid of my emotions and put on a smile. At least one good thing is happening today. I was finally going to meet Alex. I walked up the stairs and knocked on the door. The door opened. It was a woman around the queen's age. She looked beautiful with her dark brown hair and green eyes. They were exactly the same color as Alex's hair and eyes. This must be his mom.
"I'm here to meet Alex." The lady's smile grew as I mentioned Alex's name.
"You must be a friend of Alex. Come on in." She made way for me and I entered the house. The house certainly smelled good. It had a homely feeling about it. "Helga will escort you to Alex. He should be at the training grounds."
The lady called out Helga's name and an old lady appeared with a mop in her hands.
"Take her to Alex." The Helga woman nodded and threw the mop to another maid that was present. Talk about accurate aim and she didn't even look. "I'm a little busy or I would have escorted you there myself."
"I am fine." I gave her a small curtesy and followed Helga. I looked around mesmerized. The interior decoration was beautiful and the mansion looked bigger inside than outside. I got startled as something white ran past me. I turned to see what it was but it had disappeared. Was it my imagination?
"Young master Alex is just around the corner." Helga stopped and gave me way. I went to the end of the hall, just to get blinded by the sunlight. I opened my eyes and smiled as I saw Alex, but it turned into a frown as I saw a girl underneath him. She was hugging him and he was patting her. I watched as he opened his eyes.
Alex turned his head toward me and made eye contact. I saw recognition all over his face. He didn't forget me. I was glad, but a tear slipped down my cheek as I couldn't take the sight in front of me. Why was this day so unlucky for me?
