Chapter 3 - Where do they run

She continued down the path, Arrow was tired but pushed on. She was scared and uncertain of what was going to happen. Jolon will know that she's gone by morning so they had to get as far as possible now. The sky was dark and it was getting even colder, it started to snow. It was slow so she wasn't very worried. They continued down the mountain nothing was really around, she didn't see a single house or shelter. The trees in this area didn't have that eerie green glow either. "I should have brought a light or something. How are we supposed to do anything we don't have money for this place either."

she sighed in defeat, what was happening to her life. "We never even found that stupid cow." her voice cracked and she began to cry, she felt so lost and overwhelmed.

They came across a decision to go left or right, she looked around this road was paved with stone. She turned Arrow right he took a step and started to whinny, his ears pinned back and he stomped his hoof repeatedly. "Arrow what's wrong? There is nothing." he refused and started walking off to the left. She was confused "I guess it doesn't matter which way we go." He trotted contently down the road. She looked at the path ahead, she never thought to look behind herself. So she never noticed the stranger that came out of the shadows and watched her ride off.

The hours past and the snow worsened. They needed to find shelter, there were some lights in the distance. As they got closer the wind started picking up. She looked and saw a nice sized building, it had a large wooden sign in front of it. "Journey Man's Tavern, I wonder if they will let me stay there?" She turned Arrow down their driveway, there was a covered area with a hitching post. She tied Arrow to it and made her way to the front door. It opened easily, it was quiet tables dotted the right side of the area and what looked like a check in table to the left with old looking keys hanging behind it. She walked over to the check in table nobody was there but she saw a bell, it gave off a light ding when she range it. "I wonder if I even have cash on me." She patted down her pockets to find a pocket knife, phone and wallet. Perfect at least she had something, her wallet did have twenty dollar bill.

"Hello, little thing. What are you doing out so late." said a sweet older woman in a night gown. "Oh, hello ma'am. I just needed a place to stay for the night with my horse." she was shivering, still wet from the snow.

"Of course dear... I'm sorry dearie are you wet? What were you doing out there?" The old woman sounded so concerned it reminded her of her grandmother. Tears started to form in her eyes. "I...I uh, it just started snowing so... I had to get away from this man..." She started to cry. As she did a older man came out from the back room. The old woman turned to him "Renaldo would you go take care of this young things horse. Come here dearie lets go dry you off."

"Of course Mari, I'll be back shortly." He walk off for the horse. Mari came around the counter and took her by the shoulders and led her to a bedroom. "Here we are dearie how about you go take a hot shower and I'll go find you a change of clothes." Mari spoke to her softly and left the room. She looked around it wasn't fancy but it was very cozy. She looked around and saw some doors, one led to the closet and the other to the bathroom. She left her clothes on a chair in the bed room and took a hot shower. She was sore from riding so much it was nice to feel the heat pour down her back. She was happy to find a nice big towel when she got out. She looked in the mirror her face looked tired, she looked at her eyes her mother always said she had special eyes. They were brown but in the sunlight or fire light they looked red, but all she could think about was Jolon's glowing blue eyes. "Ugh." a shiver went down her spine.

She left the bathroom, her clothes were no longer on the chair but a new set of clothes were lain out on the bed. She picked it up it was a night gown similar to Maris, it was just slightly to big but it was very comfortable. She sat on the bed and heard a knock at the door. "Come in." she said quietly.

Mari came in with a glass of milk and a scone. "Here you are dear, I'll let you sleep and when you get up do you think you can tell me about what happened to you." Mari set the tray down on the side table and left the room. She moved to the side table and ate the scone it was delicious and filled with berries she couldn't recognize the milk tasted normal though. She laid down on the bed and quickly fell asleep.

...

She woke up in a field the ground covered in mist. She tried to speak but couldn't all she could do was look around. The mist grew taller and taller before her, it got thicker till she couldn't see behind it. She heard a deep growl, a large white wolf started to emerge from the mist as if its body was materializing from the mist itself. "You need to stay away!" The white wolf growled the voice sounded slightly feminine. It leapt over her. She spun around to see the wolf before her shielding her from a grey wolf that looked like Jolon. The white wolf let out a beastly roar, she closed her eyes in fear.

...

Reva's eyes opened and she sat up strait in bed her heart racing. She looked at her hands "It was just a dream." she placed her hand over her chest it felt like it was going to explode. She took some deep breaths to calm down. It was just a really weird dream, since its been so stressful. At least thats what she was telling herself.
