Chapter 3 - The best way to read books is to consume them

Even though the area Yang Shen lived in was considered as the slum area of the city, the streets weren't covered in filth and neither were the houses all worn down and broken as it was usually expected.

After all, at the end of the day, this slum area was inside the capital city of a kingdom due to which even the poorest class of citizens resided in comfortable living conditions.

Walking on the streets, Yang Shen who had entered this world less than a few days back was trying to increase his knowledge regarding this world by as much as possible.

Given how he didn't receive any of his predecessor's memories, Yang Shen knew almost nothing about himself or the world he was in right now.

Other than the fact he had no family and lived by himself which he learnt through the stupid diary which only had one page worth of information in it, Yang Shen knew nothing else. Well, nothing else other than that this was a world of cultivation.

'You dumbass, couldn't you at least have written something about this world!'

Cursing the one whose body he obtained, Yang Shen felt lucky that he at least knew the cause of death.

The stupid one died after being scared by a beast he saw in the wild.

How embarrassing.

Remembering the looks of scorn and pity he received from the group of people that were surrounding him when he first woke up and listening to how he fainted when the animal bared its teeth at him, Yang Shen felt lucky that one of them knew where his predecessor lived.

If not, wouldn't he be living on the streets right now?

Thinking such things, Yang Shen who was on the way to the local library suddenly stopped and looked towards the sky with a dazed look.

[Killed an ant! Obtained 0.0001 XP.]

Looking down and lifting the foot he just put down, Yang Shen found a crushed ant which was most likely the source of him receiving 0.0001 XP.

Is this what the system meant by obtaining XP from killing living creatures?

But… why is the amount so pitiful?

Clicking his tongue at how many ants he'd have to kill if he wanted the XP bar to become full and increase his cultivation, Yang Shen gave up the idea of ant massacre and continued on his way towards the library.

'Thank god the library is free to enter.'

Cursing his predecessor on the inside once again because he was so pitifully poor that the money left behind wasn't even enough to satisfy his stomach, Yang Shen entered the library while thinking of what he should do to earn money.

Given how he possessed a godly existence like the Lecherous Cultivation System which would support him, how could Yang Shen be willing to continue picking herbs as his predecessor did?

Putting aside the new profession he should pick to earn money, Yang Shen entered the library.

Ignoring the various people inside it who were frowning towards him at his shabby appearance, Yang Shen walked towards the section which contained information regarding the world and the basics of cultivation.

Picking up the first book he felt would be useful to him, Yang Shen didn't even obtain the chance to open it when the system screen suddenly popped open in front of him.

[Discovered 'The History of the Supreme Cloud Continent' book. Use the system's function to learn it?]

'Yes.'

Accepting without any hesitation, Yang Shen remembered something after which he hastily turned away and hid the book behind him and away from the eyes of anyone who would want to look at it.

Looking around nervously as the book disintegrated into sparkly dust and entered him, Yang Shen felt lucky that he moved when he did.

If not, who knows what would have happened after someone saw what just happened.

[The History of the Supreme Cloud Continent has been learnt!]

Letting out a hidden sigh filled with relief and amazement once he received this notification, Yang Shen found his head filled with a lot of information regarding the continent he lived on.

Moving forward and picking up the book which contained the basics of cultivation, Yang Shen used the system to learn everything written inside it and quickly left the library unless he turned it empty from consuming all of the books inside it.

At the same time, he began calling the system stingy because according to it he only had three free chances to learn what was inside a book, and he had spent them all.

If he wanted to do the same in the future, he'd need to spend points to do so.

Points this, points that, aaaaaahhhhh!!!!

Screaming loudly on the inside at how he needed to obtain some points as soon as possible, Yang Shen went back to his home to digest all the information he obtained from consuming a total of three books.

The Supreme Cloud Continent, Xia Kingdom, Capital City.

The place I arrived at isn't bad. Since this is one of the three strongest kingdoms, I guess there shouldn't be any shortage of opportunities to grow stronger in this place.

But, I should join one of the four big sects since they are a better place for growing stronger.

However, the problem is my cultivation!

With how weak I am, I can't even serve as a guard for an ordinary shop.

Skin Samsara, Muscle Forming, Marrow Cleansing, Bone Forging, Dantian Opening, Qi Gathering, Golden Core, Xiantian, Nascent Soul, True Qi Realm, and Transcendence Realm.

These were the major realms of cultivation with each one being divided into nine sub levels starting from the Qi Gathering Realm onwards.

How pathetic… couldn't he at least have opened his dantian?!!

Cursing the original owner of his body whom he found more stupid and useless as time went on, Yang Shen was very curious why he hadn't started cultivation despite having become 18 years.

After all, according to the third book he consumed, cultivation could be started as soon as one turned 12 years. So why in god's name was this body not even at the Marrow Cleansing Realm which was the realm which those with average talent were at in their 18th year of life?

Not knowing that he was blaming his predecessor too much with what little information he possessed, Yang Shen had yet to learn that even though everyone wanted to cultivate, the cultivation manuals weren't available to everyone.
