Chapter 1 - Prologue 1

"How difficult can it be to propose and marry my first love? I could do it in the blink of an eye. I go to her and say I love you and seal her lips with mine. Very simple!" That's what he thought in his innocent teenage days.

But when he missed the first chance to confess his love, and the further attempts he made failed horribly in the near future, he realized how foolish his silly thoughts actually were!

"It is difficult, indeed! In fact, it is very much difficult!!!"

As he realized that it was not going to be as easy as he once thought, his heart broke. He could even make his enemy kneel before him without much effort and force them to admit defeat. But saying those three simple words to the person he loved seemed to be rather impossible. The minute his eyes met her beautiful glittering expressive eyes, the world stopped around him.

His heart would hit the chest walls nonstop as if it was giving him hard punches. He felt his breathing might stop at any second. His hands would start to shiver as if he may lose her forever if he said those three words to her.

"She is killing me with just a glance. How am I going to survive without you, you sweet devil!" He mumbled as he contradicted his own words.

"Today, I am going to tell her how much I love her! Today is the day! It's going to be my day… NO, Our day," With confidence flowing all over his body, he stepped very close to her but only to take a U-turn and hide behind the tree to watch her from afar.

Hazel lifted her head to look at the wind that passed by her so fast. As she could not find anything, she lowered her head to look at the books she had in her hands. Once she made sure that she had the books for her next class, Hazel moved towards her classroom.

Meanwhile, Harlow, who was standing behind the tree, decided to drop her safely to her class. So he came out of the hiding. Just when he was about to take a step forward, he noticed Hazel stop and turn her head towards him.

His legs went so weak that it felt like they were frozen on the ground forever and he became a statue. He even thought that he could not walk ever again. Instead of looking at him, Hazel shouted while looking at her friend, Mila.

"Mila, come on! We are getting late. Enough with your makeup all day long. You do know that the math teach is very strict and if we are even a minute late, he would not let us attend his class," Hazel complained with frustration written all over her face but her friend, Mila did not seem to listen to her complaints and continued to ignore her.

When Hazel's face shrunk in depression, Harlow's heart hurt and he badly wanted to pull Mila towards the classroom. Then when he became aware that he had to touch Mila to pull her, he got repulsed and unknowingly wiped his hands on his pants.

"This hand is only to touch my darling, not anyone else!" He murmured.

After waiting for a few more minutes, Hazel impatiently said to Mila, "Fine! I am going now… If you are not interested in coming to the class, at least you could have told me a bit earlier."

Mila did not respond even now and continued to apply lip gloss in a slow manner. Then she packed everything inside her bag and slowly stood up from the bench. She placed her arm around Hazel's shoulder and said,

"Patience, dear! Patience, We still have four minutes before the sleep monster enters our class," Mila whispered in Hazel's ears.

"Sleep monster?" Hazel pushed Mila's hands and hit her head with the books in her hands.

"When are you going to act a little mature and stop making nicknames to all our teachers like a middle school?" Hazel tickled Mila's waist and they both laughed together as Mila wiggled around.

'Why is she not moving from there? This Mila does not know anything… Should I scare her from behind or should I kick her?' Harlow wondered which would be an effective way to make Mila listen to his sweetheart.

Finally, before he could come to a decision, Mila and Hazel ran towards their classroom. He too, without wasting any more time went back to his classroom. As his attempt failed that day, he got teased by his friends for being such a scarecrow.

"I will tell her tomorrow! I will!!!" He shouted with resolve at his friend, Arya.

"Oh! Yes, you will… you will…" Arya looked at him as if he was a coward and that it was not going to happen in this lifetime.

He never expected that in the end, he really had become such a coward that he lost all his chances to make her, his. Especially when he did not expect that his first failure would continue forever even after they entered college and graduated. All he did was follow her all those years and never got the courage to propose to her even once.

Days became months, and months turned into years. Until the end, he could not express his love for her, and they went their separate ways. Or, to be more precise, she left the country to explore the world while he went to another city to secure his future.

Right now, he was sitting opposite his first love discussing his marriage with another woman whom his parents arranged for him. When he just thought everything was over and accepted his fate that he could never meet his crush again, she sat in front of him to plan his wedding with another woman.

Even today, he could feel that she still had the power over him to make him lose himself and go weak in his legs. His heart as usual beat so fast that it might jump out of his mouth at any minute and run towards her.

'Should I tell her now?' Just when he was about to lift his head, his fiancée kicked him on his legs.

"I am sorry! He was never like this before. I am not sure why he would behave as if he is not interested in this marriage," His fiancée complained to his crush.

His heart sank as he saw the person who was seated opposite him had no reaction on her face after hearing that.

'What are the chances that you make your crush plan your wedding with someone else? More than that, how could her mesmerizing eyes still manage to dart those arrows straight into my heart again and again. While making me go weak on my knees, I could not say even a single word to her!' His thoughts ran wildly inside his mind.

When his fiancée kept on kicking his legs indicating that he should say something to confirm the venue and other details, he looked up once at his first love and then averted his eyes immediately.

'Is there still a way where I could somehow cancel this wedding and propose to my soulmate now?' I hit my head and cursed at myself for having such bad thoughts.

'No! You lost all your chances. Now you have a fiancée with whom your marriage is fixed and in less than a month you would be a married man. What would happen to the innocent girl who is sitting next to you with dreams in her eyes.' He clenched his fist and tried to control his urge to run towards Hazel and hug her.

Without saying a word to anyone, he stood up and left. He did not even glance one behind him as he knew that the minute his eyes met Hazel's eyes, he would never go on with this marriage.
