Chapter 9 - 9 | Golden Eyes

RaiYa

Her long eyelashes complimented her round golden eyes and her light toned skin flushed with pink from the cold. Her over-grown inky hair ran down the side of her face and fell down to the ground. I noticed she wasn't wearing any shoes and she was dressed very lightly. I asked for her name and she timidly faked a name on the spot. I tried to hold back a laugh. No one had blatantly lied about their name to me before.

When I asked why she was out here she lied again. I could almost read her like a book. Just looking at her clothing I could just tell she wasn't being treated well. Her timid behavior and trembling hands looked so pitiful, but she looked as pure as the snow in my eyes.

She didn't even know what a trail was, yet she said she was on her way home and trotted towards the woods. I wrapped my cloak over her and carried her to town. She was just a child in her teens. As we chatted along the way her eyes wondered in excitement as if it was her first time seeing the outside world.

"Is it beautiful?" I asked.

"What's beautiful? I've never heard that word before." she replied.

It shocked me of how little knowledge she had. I looked into her innocent curious eyes and I could feel a sense of sadness from her response. Such a simple word yet she didn't understand it. There was probably a lot of things and words she didn't understand.

"It's the opposite of ugly." I replied.

"The opposite of me?" she asked.

I froze where I stood and my mouth dropped open a little in shock as I looked down at the teen in my arms.

"Are you ugly?" I asked.

"Very ugly and unsightly." she smiled as she looked up in the sky. "I wish I was beautiful too."

I felt sorrow for her. How has she lived till now? In my eyes she was the most innocent and pure being I have ever seen, nothing like the crazy cripple back home. I wanted to teach her the beauty of this world and fill her with happiness. She was the most beautiful person I had ever seen.

When we reached town, she was desperate to separate from me. It seemed like she knew where to go, so I let her go. I wanted to meet her again and we promised to meet up in 3 days, but I never saw her again.

I searched around the town and looked for people with the names JunHe, but I couldn't find her. I looked for every young lady with over grown hair and golden eyes. Many families brought over their daughters that matched the description, but none were her. All those girls had dull light brown eyes and most were literate. They all talked in a slutty manner to gain my favor and it disgusted me. The teen I met, didn't know me nor did she try to flirt with me. She was different.

I was constantly in a terrible mood and just as I couldn't hold it in anymore, that cripple appeared in front of me. I wanted vent out my anger and tear him apart. Just as I was about to behead the cripple, NaiWei jumps out and pulled my sword away from the cripple's neck. He whispers into my ear,

"You can't get rid of him yet. We haven't had our fill of fun yet. Not only that, but father would be really angry. You know how much he cares for the cripple."

Calming down and sheathing my sword we walked away as NaiWei tried to cheer me up. When it was time for me to return back to the army I made a promise that I would find her, protect her, and grant her the things she's never had before. I would treat her with care and teach her the wonders of this world.
